Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.
These repairs are never without problems. You're so fortunate, Emi, for having an honest friend like Loren.
I wish Loren was my mechanic. He probably doesn't need any more clients but this series of him helping you really shows his skill, compassion and humour. A good mechanic is one the best men you can find!
He was my mechanic and I had to rebuild my engine myself after it failed 8 weeks after he worked on it, making a huge mistake.
I’d never repair a 275 ,000 miles .
@@riverunner9978why? Today’s engines are good for over 500k and even more with truck engines as long as you maintain them properly. Besides as long as your block is good you can rebuild it for a lot less than buying a different truck that you don’t know the history. 😮

You have to live in the shop like Chrome had to. It is so nice Chrome let you use the shop. You have a place to chill while you wait and it seems like a good area to take walks I see you use the shop van to go pick up parts, at leastt you can get away at times. It’s hard to find good 👍 and honest mechanics to fix vehicles 🚗. My nephew is an auto mechanic and he quit his job because they didn’t want him to do a excellent job so in that situation he quit ,he’s a honest mechanic and does a great job. I wished he lived closer to but he’s three hours away, he just won’t let a vehicle out unless it’s done ✔️ proper. Take care Emi and Loren. From Ontario Canada

@@AllThingsClarice haha absolutely 😃 I think a high top where the top isnt a separate add on but a whole van if you know what I mean. Then she wouldn't have to worry about it leaking
What Lauren means by "milkshake" is the term when coolant mixes with oil....This happens when the gasket fails and the two separate ports can allow commingling of the fluids. That is also why you don't want to re-use head bolts because they are Tork-to-Yield stretch bolts....meaning one time use. So he's looking out for her best interests as every mechanic and friend should.
Time takes time... no rushing -doing it right...

Sorry you have to replace the head, but it will give your engine longer life and will keep you running when you are out touring around so that is good. At least you have the best mechanic ever on the job. Haha - Kitty is just so tired from working hard supervising the van build and making sure no mice are sneaking into the shop. 😂. ❤😊😺

Your friend is of course right, you may as well put the money into new heads, the chances are it will improve performance and fuel economy too so in the long run it will work out cheaper than trying to rescue the old ones. Take care.

Emi, so many things you do inspire me to get on with things I need to do. I appreciate you. You've been working hard since you got there. That's great you can stay and not go back and forth. My Amazon packages have never had delivery issues. As of late, it's been any problems under the stars. My wish at beginning of the week was that you'd get all your parts on time!!! I'm sorry you can't do your complete cabinet rebuild there. So much easier having the shop and equipment there and ready to go.

Hopefully your mechanic takes advantage of the chance to replace not only your failed head gasket on one side, but the other side as well. Also would be a great time to do the water pump and change the belts. Hopefully he’s doing that.

I had a little cabinet that did that to me I got a piece of thin plywood and I put it back on the whole cabinet and it made it real solid

Be very careful in the shop that there's no coolant laying around because the cat will drink it and it will kill her very quickly.
Emily tell loran to spray gold paint on the new gaskets and it will seal good it is the best for high milage motors

Loren is giving sound advice about the cylinder heads about finding either new ones or getting used ones that are good, Loren would not give you bad advice, but when it's all done n back on the the road you and kitty will have a solid home once again
