This is Jazz but freeform style at its best. It reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is free music at its best, classically trained musicians set free from form.
Holy shit. Just realised what Adrian is doing at the end. He's perfectly mimicking Omar's random notes. Takes one hell of a musical ear to do that as perfectly as he did!!
if your ever get the chance to see them live.. its a must do.. ask your parents.. you know the ones that forgot to see led zep in the 70's... just do it. do be your mom and dad.. do not miss them.. awesome all the wy
Me parece de una genialidad superlativa todo lo que crea Omar. Este artista no pertenece a este mundo y la banda The Mars Volta es un fenomeno inmensurable!
When I listen to this I try to focus at one instrument at the time. But my attention keeps being drawn to the bass. I don't know if it's because I play bass myself or if it's because Juan Alderete is just goddamn killer on this track
festival hall melbourne. Brilliant gig. Had the most tripped out crowd I've ever seen at any show. Was before the ban on smoking inside licenced venues came in to effect and there was a massive fog of weed smoke covering the entire venue.
@MechanicBodhi This is Jazz but freeform style at its best. It reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is free music at its best, classically trained musicians set free from form.
i agree. they are way to instrumentally and musically talented to be considered emo lol but seriously, they're music is much more mature, deeper, and complex then most bands period. also, they easily have the most energy ive ever seen or heard. ive seen them described as music made by musicians for musicians
i dont know whats more sad, your comment, or the fact that people liked it; both are extraordinary drummers with remarkable skills but different way of playing
I saw them last night. Omar started doing all this on the spot directions to the band like: "stop, now half time.." and at the very end Juan looped the last riff and started messing it up with all his pedals until it was unrecognizable. So, so good. beyond words
@reefergoat If I'm gonna smoke a fat bowl, Frances the Mute is the first album that comes to mind, especially with a 32minute song in "Cassandra Geminni." I was stoned the first time I listened to Bedlam in Goliath, and it was one of the best experiences I had listening to music. At the time, every song was gold, and each song was better than the last. I tried to repeating that with Octahedron, but I was left in a state of disappointment.
that was the most powerful performance ive seen you can see that they just let the music take on its own life and form now thats music not like bands today id rather not mention
@SteveUrkeI I think it is actually 9/8, 6/4, 4/4 because the first measure (9/8) doesn't quite reach a full five count. It comes in at "5-and" if you are counting that way and "9" if you count numerically using 8th notes.
@discobiscuits0 Is it me, or does he play a lot of modern sounding synths all over bedlam and octahedron? dude is phenomenal! my jaw dropped for the entire 2nd half! god i love jazz fusion!
As much as I love Deloused - it dominates their live performances these days. Glad I got to see them touring Amputechture, Bedlam, and Octahedron. A bit bummed I missed out on Frances. But I guess, when it's all said and done, Deloused is still their most mainstream in terms of popularity.
GOD, I wish Ikey were turned up louder for this song. Fuck, did you see how fast his HANDS were moving!!?? But other than that, this is possibly the best mars volta live video ever taken.
its just that they used different footage that dosen't match up, much like "the song remains the same" you can tell some shots are from different nights by looking at the height of the background.
@canthinkverywell I agree to a certain extent but you cant tell me that octahedron is on the same scale as deloused and frances. Smoke a fat bowl and listen to each and you'll see what im getting at.
damnit I wanted to go to Bonnaroo but I was leaving for a trip..I was going to see them and Kaki King.. could you tell me the whole setlist that they played?
At first I thought so too, but at 4:11 it's clear that he isn't playing. I think it sounds a lot like a guitar with a Moogerfoger, could it be an Overdub?
@thedanieltmv Use your ears - I can hear his haunting tones in the background easily. If it was live you'd be able to pin-point it a lot better, but it's definitely there still.
I love how in every TMV live video I see, Ikey just looks like the happiest guy on the planet.
This is Jazz but freeform style at its best. It reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is free music at its best, classically trained musicians set free from form.

That crowd don't know how lucky they are..
This is by far my favorite performance, and I doubt it will ever be surpassed.
if your ever get the chance to see them live.. its a must do.. ask your parents.. you know the ones that forgot to see led zep in the 70's... just do it. do be your mom and dad.. do not miss them.. awesome all the wy
The Mars Volta kick ass!
Cygnus is probably my favorite song not to mention this performance of it was flat out amazing. Can't wait to see them live.
this is one of the most powerful and strangest things i have ever seen. i love it.
Me parece de una genialidad superlativa todo lo que crea Omar. Este artista no pertenece a este mundo y la banda The Mars Volta es un fenomeno inmensurable!
Lol at Omar and Adrian at the end.. It's what live playing is all bout. pure joy
Bedlam=Frances=Amputechture>Deloused=Octahedron
But all their albums are absolutely amazing.
When I listen to this I try to focus at one instrument at the time. But my attention keeps being drawn to the bass. I don't know if it's because I play bass myself or if it's because Juan Alderete is just goddamn killer on this track
he loves what he does, and so does everyone else in the band :]
festival hall melbourne.
Brilliant gig. Had the most tripped out crowd I've ever seen at any show. Was before the ban on smoking inside licenced venues came in to effect and there was a massive fog of weed smoke covering the entire venue.
This is not even music to me. This is a system of orgasms crafted masterfully for my ear and brain to consume. Oh so good!
I'm really digging how well you can hear him
@MechanicBodhi This is Jazz but freeform style at its best. It reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is free music at its best, classically trained musicians set free from form.
I love this performance !!! the music it´s awesome and Cedric always on tune...
THANK YOU FOR TIS AMAZING VIDEO!!!!! thomas pridgen is a beast!!!!!! and my all time idol
They do love each other. In an interview Omar said that they are like brothers and they are always together.
Yeah, I sure was. It was a lot of fun, great band, they really are great live.
i agree. they are way to instrumentally and musically talented to be considered emo lol
but seriously, they're music is much more mature, deeper, and complex then most bands period. also, they easily have the most energy ive ever seen or heard.

haha that call and response with omar and adrian towards the end is fantastic!
from 1:53 to 3:32 one of the greatest jams i have ever heard...
I saw them last night. Omar started doing all this on the spot directions to the band like: "stop, now half time.." and at the very end Juan looped the last riff and started messing it up with all his pedals until it was unrecognizable.
So, so good. beyond words
@reefergoat

Adrian is one of the main reasons I love FTM. He MAKES the album.
Omar's new work is incredible. I mean really.
that was the most powerful performance ive seen
you can see that they just let the music take on its own life and form
now thats music
not like bands today id rather not mention
"Somebody let me borrow your nervous system."
you got that right ha
his solo's in aberinkula are amazing live
3:37 That guy is absolutely awesome.
they played a 40 min version of this when i saw them... it was epic :D
@SteveUrkeI Love that combo. Gotta show my band this song we can try something like that...
What an absolutely ridiculous monster of a tune
this is on a dvd that came the TBIG from best buy.
yeeeya seeing them tomorrow night
00.45...Soooo freakin tight!
As KiernanMoony just said, chaotic brilliance.
I really like to hear Owens playing the keyboard. At the albums you don´t get a lot of him.
@SteveUrkeI I think it is actually 9/8, 6/4, 4/4 because the first measure (9/8) doesn't quite reach a full five count. It comes in at "5-and" if you are counting that way and "9" if you count numerically using 8th notes.
1:39 HOLY FUCKING HELL JUST CHILLS!!! HEAVYYYYYYYY!!!!!
@crazy8rgood It sounds more like the King Crimson song Sailor's Tale (the riff that starts at 2:30)
@discobiscuits0 Is it me, or does he play a lot of modern sounding synths all over bedlam and octahedron? dude is phenomenal! my jaw dropped for the entire 2nd half! god i love jazz fusion!

AWESOME
This is best live sound quality of mars volta ever on youtube, scab dates soundspants in comparison.....
MOAR!!!!!
FYI, I don't think TMV counts out the groove (Omar's Solo into ("I count the days to find"). They just feel the rhythm.
haha i never saw the full ending to this before, it's awesome how they just stop and adrian grins
@SteveUrkeI Wow, I never even thought of that, but that actually works very easily now that you say it, thanks man.
who do youuuuu!!!
badass
that sax player is awesome.
@PierceMarratoo well he IS the director/ conductor
7:12 it shows marcel behind his synth he did the solo at 3:36
GOD, I wish Ikey were turned up louder for this song. Fuck, did you see how fast his HANDS were moving!!?? But other than that, this is possibly the best mars volta live video ever taken.
ahhhh please re upload it T.T
i'm past the point of no return from part 1
You will be missed Thomas :(
It's obvious who wrote all this stuff. Omar is one of the most genius musicians ever lived!
good stuff
its just that they used different footage that dosen't match up, much like "the song remains the same"
you can tell some shots are from different nights by looking at the height of the background.
This is not a song. This IS A RITUAL
@ArodA7X I don't know, I can hear him pretty well, he's just not making regular noises.
@ArodA7X slap on some headphones, he's mainly panned left. his roarin' organ vibes hard.
is all good. i got the leak like 2 weeks ago and i got my lp today frrom my local record shop thanx anyways dude.
I mean Adrián Terrazas-González, thank you wiki
Don't try to make a drama, it is still a song, a very good one ¬¬
this is what my head sounds like when I try to focus
fuck yeah Cedric is so awesome
What the hell is the time signature here?!
lol i was thinking same thing fedal15, damn awesome
Cedric at 04:00 haha. Omar is just looking at him like "what the hell."
it comes with the bedlam in goliath deluxe edtion album..
Omar said he gonna realease it at some point but no idea when, not date said yet, but we no crypto and octa coming so that well calm yeah
well your in for a treat buddy
Omar and Cedric are like the Mick and Keith of modern prog rock.
Hell yes! isnt there a new album coming out sometime soon?
wikipedia it... its mentioned... i forgot what they are though
and rightly so
Pridgen is the man!
9:05 to the end always makes me laugh
haha it really is. cedric reminded me of a colossus from shadow fot he colossus
Haha! You're right!
oh and 11-19 seconds
Cedric is like a god!
that ending was funny as hell.
@InsAn3DrmmeR yes sir, i got my from Best Buy, but it was a special bonus disc that came with the bedlam in goliath, try bestbuy first.
we all would...
@canthinkverywell I agree to a certain extent but you cant tell me that octahedron is on the same scale as deloused and frances. Smoke a fat bowl and listen to each and you'll see what im getting at.
@crazy8rgood WHAAAA??? Bedlam is amazing! What you talkin bout?
@bboysedo Well Try to do All the That (jumping, getting mad, etc ) for 2 hours and singing that high o.O
I was wondering where that second guitar was coming from till 6:44
damnit I wanted to go to Bonnaroo but I was leaving for a trip..I was going to see them and Kaki King..
could you tell me the whole setlist that they played?
OMAR ! IF YOU READ THIS RELEASE THE DVD PLEASE !!! YOU KNOW THE ONE IT MUST BE DONE
👽 ✌️
At first I thought so too, but at 4:11 it's clear that he isn't playing. I think it sounds a lot like a guitar with a Moogerfoger, could it be an Overdub?
I agreed that Rou
count me in!!
haha
@crazy8rgood Whaaaa? How can you put Octahedron, or any of their albums for that matter, ahead of Deloused? Deloused is TMVs holy fuckin grail!
@thedanieltmv Use your ears - I can hear his haunting tones in the background easily. If it was live you'd be able to pin-point it a lot better, but it's definitely there still.
Does anybody know what two cymbals make thomas' stack?
