    I had no idea the 648 oil pan fit the 606, that just saved me time and money.
    I just subbed.

      Yes, it does fit only that those pans are a bit pricy and getting harder to find. They’re normally a real good solution for conflicts.

    Holy crap! Someone is doing it!!! I had talked about this swap 10-15yrs ago. It’s got plenty of torque and makes good power. And it’s lightweight so why not?!

    Can a oil pan, and the oil pump from OM648 be used on a OM603?

    Hi Luis I have been watching your channel since the red Chevy single cab video. Really like your attention to detail. What is your best recommendation for getting a motor? Shop local market for donor car, travel, import one, etc? It’s obvious you don’t buy crappy motors and that they are fairly low mile and in good shape. Just looking for a little advice here. Thank you. Keep making videos !

    • @luiscervantes197
      @luiscervantes197  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. Thanks for the note. Shopping around for a donor car has always worked for me, it’s been cheaper and good to get the whole car for extra parts here and there. They’re still out there although scarce by now. Otherwise there are a few on Ebay every here and there. They normally come with 200K miles. i don’t normally worry about mileage too much. If they run well, 100K miles or so don’t make a significant difference, they’re super resilient. Once you find one just check that compressions are ok. Depending on your plans even a non-turbo works, easier to find too. They tend to be in better shape anyway because they never made much power.

    Neet thing is you're not starting with a truck that has a ECU, or does it? Thing that always find interesting with those engine swap is how can the stock ECU work with the new engine and trans ECU ? Can the stock ECU " ignore " that there's no engine and keep speedo, lights, horn, wipers and so on?

    • @luiscervantes197
      @luiscervantes197  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, just seen your comment. There was no ECU on this truck.

    • @luiscervantes197
      @luiscervantes197  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, depends on the weight though and gearing. I’ve seen people use it on toys up to 8k lbs with good results. Again, gearing is key.

    Great video. I am thinking abourt doing the same this as you did. I have a 1980 Chevrolet C 10, regular cab, fleetside longbed. For a long time I had my mind set on a GM 6.5 turbo diesel. But after I came over your video sure about that GM engine any more. I am thinking of both OM 603 turbo diesel and OM 606 turbo diesel. Both engine are highly tunable. As for transmission I alerady have a diesel 4L80E transmission and thinking of buying some sort of adapter system. How heavy is the OM 606 compared to a GM 6.5 turbo diesel?

    • @luiscervantes197
      @luiscervantes197  ปีที่แล้ว

      What year is your C10? I think the 606 is the right solution.

      @@luiscervantes197 My C 10 is a 1980. Do you have any drawing of the engine mount to the engine cross member of the car? I think I will use a OM 603 turbo diesel. I do not like electrical edc injection pumps.

      @luiscervantes197  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t but I can draw something and send to you if you have an email or phone number. It’s very simple. You can use mechanical on OM606 engine too.

    How much power are you expecting? Also, what kind of mileage will you get?

    • @luiscervantes197
      @luiscervantes197  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      People that know say that the 6mm pump I’m using can yield 300HP. But it takes some skill to truly get all of that. With the pump and turbo I have, I expect to get around 275HP which will move the truck nicely. And with that exact set up I have seen 30mpg highway before. I think I can get that on this truck or 28 at a minimum and some 22/24 mpg mixed.
