  • As the summer season started winding down we made one more trip out to the NJ shore to capture a park we have been wanting to visit for three years, Keansburg Amusement Park.
    We were hoping to get the two coaster credits but found out that Sea Serpent is children only and their main coaster, Looping Star, is only open on the weekends (we visited on a Tuesday). While this park was pretty slow that day, check out this explore video and let us know your thoughts on this small traditional park.
    Highlights include : Looping Star, Wave Swinger, Rockin Tug, Pharaoh's Fury (the best themed ride in the park), Loop-O-Plane, Double Shot, Tornado, Haunted Mansion (also only open on weekends which was a huge bummer), Spook House, Carousel (indoors), Bumper Cars, Moby Dick, Gravitron, Tilt-A-Whirl, Chaos and Cliff Hanger. They have over 25 kiddie attractions, 25 carnival game stands, and over 20 food stands featuring Club Miami (a nice bar), Glenda's Great Fries, Barb's Big Burrito, and Shish Kabobs.

    I went there as a kid and the original merry go round was inside a building

      I think it is still in a building. I was only there for 2 hours but think I saw it inside the one arcada

      @@125RollerCoaster It was in a building by itself there was no arcade

    The following is a (partial) list of rides that I remember seeing at Keansburg during the 80s and early-90s:
    Himalaya (at one point painted with a jungle theme, with cars sporting leopard spots and tiger stripes), Scrambler, Twister (and old-school dizzying flatride that I can't find anywhere on YT), Trabant (before Chance 'Wipeout' rides became the standard), Rock-O-Plane', Paratrooper, and an oversized Whip ride dubbed "Galaxy" that, again, I can't find any YT clips of.
    All of these are long gone and sorely missed (by me, anyway). If I could travel back in time, I'd love to spend time in Keansburg during that era.
    One more attraction I remember: "Fascination". The boards there had different colors for all 5 rows (from bottom to top: green, gold, white, blue, red); I haven't found a version like that since. One guy who used to be there (Randy) is now at Wildwood with his 'Retro Arcade'.

      Our visit to Keansburg in 2022 was our first so we don't know the history as well as we do when it comes to Morey's Piers but it's great hearing about all the classic rides that have come and gone from that park. Hope our video brought back some good memories as well

    Very little changed since I lived there in the early 70's. The beachfront changed a lot.

      Yea. It looks like a lot of the attractions in the park are originals. This year we are visiting the water park which looks pretty new. Make sure you subscribe so you don't miss any Keansburg updates

      Based on what I remember from 80s, much has changed (sadly, for the worse).

    One correction: the 'Loop-O-Plane' shown is *not* the same as the Satellite at Knoebels; the latter does not actually invert, as the cars rotate as they ascend; the cars on the former do, in contrast, complete full inversions with each pass-through.

    • @125RollerCoaster
      @125RollerCoaster  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info. There are a lot of similar rides so it is always nice to hear about the differences

    there was no water park back then either

      That looks pretty modern and was a lot more popular the day I went

  • @Coyotek4
    @Coyotek4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What you call "Cosmotron" is actually "Gravitron" (hence the 'G' on the side); the former name is for Knoebels' in-the-dark Musik Express ride. [EDIT: you do refer to the ride as "Gravitron" later on.]

    • @125RollerCoaster
      @125RollerCoaster  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. We grew up going to Knoebels (was actually there all day today) so when you know a ride with that name it kinda becomes the default. Same thing with Hersheypark's Wave Swinger is my go to for the Flying Trapeze rides
