Thanx for sharing. Daoirí Farrell seems to me the best or one of the best singer in this style. I found him about a year ago on TH-cam and I love his singing and instrumental performance.
Yeah, Scotts-Irish and western African. Bluegrass is so unique and I love it. Interestingly enough "modern" Irish folk adopted some of that West African too...which is where the banjo comes from. Add in the dobro from Slovakia and mandolin which evolved from the lute in Italy. And of course there's Daoiri's own instrument the Bouzouki which comes from Greece. It's truly inspiring how people from such different backgrounds can fuse their music into something so wonderful.
@@Kelnx Scots-Irish were Protestants from Ulster and included a high proportion of English from the northern counties of England. They weren't the Catholic Irish from the south.

Not every Irishman has red hair after all. Oral history is a tricky thing. Maybe my neighbors tell lies? When the Spanish Armada came to attack England during the time of Queen Elizabeth the First, some ships were lost in the Irish Sea. If any of those sailors were able to get ashore, it would have added a bit of Spanish blood, dark hair and olive complexion to the Irish mix. Could be... But maybe it's a lie. Okay....
@@girlfromthebronxbywayofelb7288 i see, that's what i thought you were reffering to, I think the spanish traded with the Irish and with the English on the south west coast and is very likely many Irish and southern english have spanish blood, also there were many Arabs and Persians that lived and intermixed with the spanish so some Irish/ English might have arab/persian blood too, i live on the north coast of devon in England and there are many dark haired and slightly dark skinned people along the coast, it's very interesting. Cuban history benefits from sea trade too, but their strategic position in the Caribbean makes that almost inevitable. Probably why Cubans see themselves as citizens of the world. Unfortunately, strategic for the slave trade too, but that made it such an African island, and the music certainly benefits from that. Not the happiest way to get there, but Cuba has a way of ensuring that culture wins at the end of the day! Enjoy Devon! Thanks for the history.

Christianity came to Ireland and South England pretty soon after death of Jesus through traders from middle east coming here in ships, hence Celtic Christianity. Yes, I think nthere was a lot more travelling around and inter mixing than most people realise.
