I understand so much more now about why my Granddad didn't enjoy my hobby so much as me and my Grandma. He was in the 82nd Airborne in WWII and had dear friends who didn't come home from the Pacific theatre. And I will always remember the Thanksgiving where he made my Mother move her Datsun off the property. Lol. I subbed long ago because of your content around the Jeep/XR311 that was my first RC effort. I was living on base when the REAL XR311 was testing at Ft. Knox KY. I finally got my Granddad to warm up to the hobby with the Blackfoot because he had a Ford F150 in the driveway and I painted the Blackfoot like his truck. He was really got, when he first saw it. I ended up looking after him in his declining years. These toys were a great way for us to bond back then. I always enjoy your posts but this one really hit hard as I lost him in 2016. Bewildering world we're living in today. These bring back such great memories. Thanks Brother
The Blackfoot is THE iconic Tamiya truck imo. It is so indicative of the 80s golden era in its styling. Bridging that scale model appeal and innovative (if quirky) mechanical design. Nothing like it will ever be made again! Loved it then and still love it now. Great job as usual Glenn!
Have a lot of fun with this kit. I did mine last year complete in box-art. The car looks so perfect. The black body, the red decals, the yellow wheels, it all fits so perfect and makes it look so fantastic. I've seen a few in silver and I have to say a very nice color scheme too. If I built another one I think it would go silver. And one of my holy grails would be to restore an original one.
My first hobby grade RC. This truck has so much personality in terms of look and drive behavior. About to build the same kit. Also scored an original release off of Ebay. Yes, original Black Foot shocks had no oil. I converted my original Black Foot into a paddle boat back in the 80's for my science class. Wish I kept it but the nostalgia will never die.
that’s it i’m getting a blackfoot need one bad i’ve just built a clodbuster cost a bit it’s lifted a inch stretched to 13 inch wheel base and 40mm wider axle mounted servos front and rear hobby wing esc 21t motors and i love it great fun i never even used it in stock form i got most bits from uk monsters great build best i’ve done in over 40 years
The Blackfoot is awesome brother!!! I love mine so much that i couldn't stop running it soooo........ lol....i had to buy one for the shelf and did it in yellow and red, pretty much box art except the body is yellow. Looks fantastic!!
Hi Glenn! Yes!! the Ford ranger box art would be really awsome or a Gulf racing blue paint with Gulf racing decals and a couple of Ford decals on. Maybe white, black or aluminium finish on the wheels and of course the tire decals. Cant wait for the build video!!
I got me the Tamiya 2016 Blackfoot Re-Release last week. I had a few blackfoots years ago. I also have an original Tamiya Blackfoot Xtreme, but it needs restored. 😎
Always wanted one of these at the time but wasn't in stock so got the lunchbox and painted it in Ford mystic blue metallic full bearings and oil shocks and put the technigold out my boomerang into it and use to run it at the local beach dunes ...great video as always Glenn and have a great weekend 😎🙏🌞💪👊👌🔥🔥🔥🔥 and the ford ranger idea = yes yes yes yes 👌👌👌

This is gonna be my next Tamiya. Always loved it. U have the Lunchbox which makes me smile because its so unpredictable to drive. After seeing your video I feel I need to get one A.S.A.P 🤣
Black Foot yes what a beast for a monster truck and Boxart is nice for sure but ford ranger also would be really cool , when i do mine i may go boxart but with a slight change to the wheels , i may go black on the wheels for something different , and yes its true about the FallGuy being done to the hilt but done properly comes up a treat , great video as always glen and digressing is way cool too watching those thoughts go through and then shared with us all is super cool and makes for a better video imo, cheers again my friend :-)
Hello Glen, you forgot to mention one really big difference between the original Blackfoot and the re-release truck. The original had the terrible half shafts which just do not work. The re-released Blackfoot has dog bones. This is a very big improvement . I had the Thorp conversion on my original Blackfoot. Thoughts?
I have my original ford ranger pickup that came out at the same time as the sand scorcher think it’s the same chassis underneath just the ranger body but the wheels are obviously much smaller than on the Blackfoot.
Just recieved the Honda city turbo wheels, and a ascona 400 rally reproduction body is ordered for my WR-02 chassis . So now is the matter of customize the wheelbase (molding new chassis pieces) and customize some body mounts. A Ascona 400 Rally 2 with the chassis of Wild Willy 2😁
I'm not the first or the last to pay homage to the Ranger on a Bigfoot kit but let me say just do it :-) Bear in mind that painting the wheels white (if you decide to) is a nightmare because painting over yellow always is. Don't use Tamiya spray cans or it'll bankrupt you! Here's a tip for painting the grill and apologies to everyone if this is common knowledge. Before fitting it to the body lay it flat on the bench and use a pipette charged with your paint of choice (I used XF-1) and very very gently squeeze it into one corner and allow it to flow around. Obviously I can't post a photo of my model to show you but trust me it works. Keep up the good work fella!
Well I’ve got a few of your videos to catch up on from the last week Glen.. So I thought I would start here what another great memory for us old gits!!. Glen please do it in that Ford Ranger scheme!!!!!. That One was my favourite from right back in the day😀😀😀
Glenn I to often speak spanglish and on a daily basis🤣😁. Love the Blackfoot, a friend had one and was a genius at setup with both his buggies (other was a Schumacher cougar I think but it was raced), so it handled like it was on rails. My brother had the monster beetle (very similar) handled like most old Tamiya monster trucks🫣. Are friend never did tell us his secrets on setup so👎 to him lol. I think the ford ranger graphics would look sweet in original white and blue or white and 🤔red green, yellow black or any other colour. I'm very intrigued to see what you choose endless possibilities on this one, maybe even two shell's 👍👊👍
Tower hobbies and horizon hobbies ,the 2 biggest hobby stores in the USA both say discontinued and I bought 1 3 weeks ago but didn’t know it at that time
Great minds think alike !! I'm Currently building the same project as you !! I've still got my original Ranger SRB that I put a Toyota 4x4 roll bar on back in the '80s - yes they are the same as the black foot one utilised years later. The wheel arches have different sizes between the original F150 Ranger and the blackfoot but I'm sure you know this. I have a couple of blackfoot body sets, one of which I want to fo in bronze metallic with original decals. Still loving your channel, I'll message you a picture of my ranger idea. Regards Ian
hi glen i remember back in the day buying and building the original clod and blackfoot i brought together from the awesome jim davis models in bham uk and regretted selling both trucks ever since although i have big plans to heavily mod my new rere clod soon
Go with the blue Ranger. Blackfoot, lunchbox, monster beetle, midnight pumpkin, hornet and madcap just take me straight back to my childhood. Great times
Hi Glenn, This is an iconic Tamiya RC, but it's always interesting to do something a little different.... On RCingabout I've built a few different versions. (1) an original Blackfoot (2) a custom U-Haul truck named the RC-Haul !!! (3) the latest custom project a Baja Ford Pickup... with a homage Ford F150 paint scheme. I would be honoured if you would want to include some images of these in an update of your build series on your Blackfoot. Take Care, Best David
@@TAMIYALegends Hi Glenn, I've posted a completed image of the Custom Baja Blackfoot... but could only attach one photo... I have loads of close ups of the model. How's best to get these to you?
As you may remember I have 3 Blackfoots, two original and the 2016 one. I plan on doing the Ranger also :) I have seen a pic of one and it does look cool! I had bought a set of the beetle gold wheels and tires for it also but who knows when I get around to it.. Go for it mate!! has to be done :)
So glad you are building one. That is a hard decision to make between the two bodies. At the end of the day, either would look epic. But for me, I would have to do the Black Foot body because I never had one and always wanted one as a child. 👍
Well Glenn I'm like u that thinks box art on the blackfoot is amazing,so when u said u mite try something different I was like 😱,but when u put the pic up of the blue and white Ranger I could 100%say that it would look awesome like that, I've got a funny feeling that this could b one of your all time greatest creations tbh,I can't wait to see it,the white wheels and tyre writing will look stunning on it 💯👊🇬🇧
Good morning Glen!! Yeah I would absolutely love to see you do the ranger body!! Rc retro did a really cool red and white scheme and it looked amazing!! I myself have 2 Blackfoots , one done box art and the other one I’m deciding if I have courage enough to do a 70’s -89’s style paint job. Looking forward to this one buddy!!! Thanks
Also have a lifed/extended SCX10 sat under a Clodbuster shell I call it my mini Clod. Also have an old Blackfoot shell on a CC01 chassis that's gonna be my Ford Ranger looky likey. And have seen a ranger body on a Blackfoot. I have a Clod shell Fall Guy truck using the 1/12 mn86k as the donar solid axle shell!
@@TAMIYALegends you don't know the half of it buddy! Git into larger scale and I'm killing my bank account! Have a 1/8 2015 Defender 110 and two 1/6 Ford F350 pick ups converted one into an Excursion both got full metal custom chassis rail/floorpan solid axle set ups and just finished an AE Prorally painted up like a VW Polo R! And don't even get me started on the three TRX Emaxxs one with a proline Baja Bug shell painted up like a Sand Scorcher!
The ford ranger sounds good with a silver light bar, I haven't really seen a blue blackfoot. I did a clod a while back with a gecko rock crawling chassis I bought, used on ebay, and added hot racing aluminum gearboxes I found for a good price. It was my first 4 link suspension and it taught me a lot. It is very heavy, but it looks great in all aluminum.
In my opinion the Blackfoot is and always has been the best looking model of all time, and the SRB Ranger is Tamiya royalty. I don't think you can go wrong with either route. I've always had an affinity for old Ford's, both scale and 1:1. The last original body I got ahold of I ended up just black and i added the details. It's now on a modified Team Associated CR12 and is my favorite rock crawler in my collection.
Yeah had a few MK1s over the years! But recently having a full King Blackfoot chassis bought a re-re body so with many sticker sheets and a partial original sticker set recreated a blackfoot! Just needs new wheels and red spaceframe and it's near enough for me! Eagre to see what you do with it buddy! 😁👍
I love black and red. And love chrome. I would have to do the roll bar and wheels chrome. Or red wheels. Hard to decide honestly. I did 2 Clods years ago with after market chassies. They were nice. But not satisfied. If I did it again, I would keep it original with few hop ups. After market parts are so much better now. Yep, a grand would be easy to spend.
Just been looking at the Ford Ranger images on the web and I think it would look great. But I might put chrome wheels on it . Tamiya seem to have made a race version of the Ranger and they put chrome wheels on it and maybe match it with a chrome roll bar. .
Hi Glenn, Go with the Blackfoot decals but get some from MCI and change the colours to the ford ranger colours. That way it’s box art ish but different. Would look cool with the red decals swapped to white and the body in the light blue.
Was just thinking : Candy red metallic body with custom colored decals from MCI. Red to White, White to Black, Yellow to Silver on the decals. not sure about the blue but maybe Silver there as well or Orange. And then White or Chrome wheels and roll bars. 😎👍👍
I have a bastard Blackfoot in the making😅 . An MST MTX-1 with an elongated Blackfoot body and customized Clod Buster roll bars.Looks awesome so far and is a blast to run.
Always liked the Blackfoot, but bought the Monster Beetle instead back in the day, because it had the yellow CVA oil dampers and the georgeus Gold wheels. I personally would like to see a Ford Ranger edition with white wheels. Just sent you a PM 😉
I must say the one truck I would love to see is the bruiser that’s the one truck I always wanted and never got cause of the price even still today that the cold buster then the Blackfoot/monster beetle then lunch box/ midnight pumpkin at least for me
Do a Ranger 👍 If you can, buy the grey frog chassis or if you can find them the Subaru brat dark grey from the Blue edition brat to replace the red parts. I’m sure Tony will have them
I think the Blackfoots red chassis might clash with the blue on the ranger body. If you use frog grey chassis rails, I’m sure a ranger colour scheme would look cool.
hi Glen. thx again 4 your email. one question: why do you hardly ever mention the Midnight Pumpkin when talking about the Tamiya Monstertruck lineup?.... here is an Idea for your Blackfoot: Ford Ranger Boxart with a red rollcage and a Tamiya Legends decal on the Flatbed where the Ford logo was on the original and also small ones on the sides where the other ford logos should be. love your vids and the new stuff on RC Legends. keep up the good work! and "happy RCing".... greetz from Bavaria Germany. Chris B.
Just an idea but keep the standard kit but go way over the top with chrome. Wheels, roll bar, leds in all lights and paint the chassis and screws black to make the chrome pop all the more. Plus paint the body with a metallic flake black. Hopefully you would end up with a “what is that?” Talking point for in the cabinets. Just an idea
Dude….do the Ranger paint job🥰🥰 As you say, don’t do the Fall Guy….it wasn’t a Ford for a start so is all wrong from the beginning, isn’t there any white wheels in the back catalogue that fit rather than painting the yellows?…..looking forward to seeing a blue Ranger soon, as always….keep up the good work 😎
I had slapped stickers straight on the body but if I could go back I would have done the highest quality paint job I could have. A real 1:1 truck would of had sweet paint work. Then clear coat over the stickers as well.
I bet the ranger will look cool but I just can’t really imagine it with the huge tires - will the Blackfoot truck accept anything even just a bit smaller?
Something like the size of the stadium blitzer rears would work on those rims. They’re only about 105mm instead of the 130 on the bf. Not a good tread probably but the right size 50mm wide by 55(57?)mm diameter. Good old 2.2x2 inch size

The last original body I got ahold of I ended up just black and i added the details. It's now on a modified Team Associated CR12 and is my favorite rock crawler in my collection.
Fantastic my friend 😎👊🏻
Yeah had a few MK1s over the years! But recently having a full King Blackfoot chassis bought a re-re body so with many sticker sheets and a partial original sticker set recreated a blackfoot! Just needs new wheels and red spaceframe and it's near enough for me! Eagre to see what you do with it buddy! 😁👍
Fantastic thanks Paul 😊👊🏻
The Ranger version would look great!
Thanks buddy 😇👊🏻
I painted my re-re body blue, the wheels white, and the roll bar silver. I used MCI OG blackfoot decals, however. Looks really nice IMO.
Excellent thanks buddy 😊
I love the idea of a Ranger, definitely what I'd do. Or Bigfoot??? Maybe.
Thank you 😊
Definitely like the idea of Bob Chandlers Bigfoot. It was a beauty of a truck and the colour would look amazing on the Blackfoot rere shell.
I don't think I've seen the fall guy truck that often but I want box art
Lol.
🤣🤣👊🏻
I love black and red. And love chrome. I would have to do the roll bar and wheels chrome. Or red wheels. Hard to decide honestly. I did 2 Clods years ago with after market chassies. They were nice. But not satisfied. If I did it again, I would keep it original with few hop ups. After market parts are so much better now. Yep, a grand would be easy to spend.
Thanks Kash 😊👊🏻
This was the second Rc I ever built and it was a big step up from a Lunch box.
Excellent 😊😊😊
Just been looking at the Ford Ranger images on the web and I think it would look great. But I might put chrome wheels on it . Tamiya seem to have made a race version of the Ranger and they put chrome wheels on it and maybe match it with a chrome roll bar. .
Cool 😎
Definately like to see a Ford Ranger, might even inspire me to do one.
Fantastic 😊😊😊
With 3d printing so easily accessible these days it would be nice if someone was to pump out some copy shells of the original.
Nice one Glen 👍🏻
Thanks Tim 😊👊🏻
Hi Glenn, Go with the Blackfoot decals but get some from MCI and change the colours to the ford ranger colours. That way it’s box art ish but different. Would look cool with the red decals swapped to white and the body in the light blue.
Hmmm interesting my friend 🤩
I have a King Blackfoot 😁 I do think you should go with the Ranger look in that Blackfoot mate, Its gonna look amazing!!!
Thanks for your feedback my friend 😊👊🏻
Nice, Blackfoots are damn cool ! What about as an option one of the alternative colour schemes from the Tamiya promo videos ?
Oh great idea Andy 🤩👊🏻
Was just thinking : Candy red metallic body with custom colored decals from MCI. Red to White, White to Black, Yellow to Silver on the decals. not sure about the blue but maybe Silver there as well or Orange. And then White or Chrome wheels and roll bars. 😎👍👍
Yeah that sounds yummy 😋
I have a bastard Blackfoot in the making😅 . An MST MTX-1 with an elongated Blackfoot body and customized Clod Buster roll bars.Looks awesome so far and is a blast to run.
Haha sounds like an excellent project 🤩👊🏻
I love the Blackfoot 😍 though I'd still do a fall guy version cause Heather Thomas in a bikini 😜😍
Heather Thomas 😍😍🤕
You could do a metallic blue one like the og Big Foot monster truck.
Yeah very cool colour 🤩
Always liked the Blackfoot, but bought the Monster Beetle instead back in the day, because it had the yellow CVA oil dampers and the georgeus Gold wheels. I personally would like to see a Ford Ranger edition with white wheels. Just sent you a PM 😉
Thanks so much for that picture my friend 🤩👊🏻
Back in mid 80's my 1St rc was the Big Bear monster truck, not sure if it was tamyia tho
Fantastic the Big Bear was Mauri 🤩👊🏻
Best box art ever
Yeah I think most people in the hobby would certainly know this truck 🤩👊🏻
To be fair I pretty much like the box art from every kit 😂
I must say the one truck I would love to see is the bruiser that’s the one truck I always wanted and never got cause of the price even still today that the cold buster then the Blackfoot/monster beetle then lunch box/ midnight pumpkin at least for me
Well I’ve got the Mountaineer to build so my friend 😊
Glenn, do it Ranger style! Do it differently because you only get one chance to do up a new kit.
Thanks buddy 😊😊😊
Some gold monster beetle rims would look sweet👍
Yeah that’s a great shout 😊👊🏻
Original looks great, but great to do something different so my vote goes to the Ford Ranger!
Did you build it as stock or did you do any hop UPS to it but please comment back And let me know thank you
Haven’t built it yet but it will be totally stock 😎👊🏻
Ford ranger yes 👍
Thank you 😊
The elf gave me mine and I wish they would remake every blackfoot iteration ever made its I would love to have those.
Fantastic 😊😊😊
I love the blackfoot and still have it but it doesnt run anymore, box art is the only way to go but its up to you.
Thanks Alastair 😊👊🏻
Do a box art body, get another body and do the ranger, would love to see that ranger body
Thanks Mike 😊
Do a Ranger 👍 If you can, buy the grey frog chassis or if you can find them the Subaru brat dark grey from the Blue edition brat to replace the red parts. I’m sure Tony will have them
Thanks Martin 😊👊🏻
I think the Blackfoots red chassis might clash with the blue on the ranger body. If you use frog grey chassis rails, I’m sure a ranger colour scheme would look cool.
Yeah I think I’d paint it black if I go that route 😊👊🏻
hi Glen. thx again 4 your email. one question: why do you hardly ever mention the Midnight Pumpkin when talking about the Tamiya Monstertruck lineup?.... here is an Idea for your Blackfoot: Ford Ranger Boxart with a red rollcage and a Tamiya Legends decal on the Flatbed where the Ford logo was on the original and also small ones on the sides where the other ford logos should be. love your vids and the new stuff on RC Legends. keep up the good work! and "happy RCing".... greetz from Bavaria Germany. Chris B.
Haha it’s because I’ve actually never had a Pumpkin 🤣
nice :-)
What about this in Ranger colours, I think cool
Yeah interesting 😊
Just an idea but keep the standard kit but go way over the top with chrome. Wheels, roll bar, leds in all lights and paint the chassis and screws black to make the chrome pop all the more. Plus paint the body with a metallic flake black. Hopefully you would end up with a “what is that?” Talking point for in the cabinets. Just an idea
Oh wow very cool indeed 🤩
I vote fir the Ranger.
Thanks Mike 😊
I'm sure the gearbox components are different too like they did with the frog.
I believe the gearbox is the same but the dog bones have been improved over the originals
Nope, same shitty differential---- But yes, Tamiya DID replace those horrible hex driveshafts, with a dog bone type.
@@somefuckingprick6726 mpi makes ball differential for it, but it's $60.
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers MPI makes a ball diff for that gearbox but it's a $60 option.
@@bradkalman2353 You've got to tell me where you are finding a MIP Super Diffs for $60--- Everywhere I look, they are like $80 🤣🤣
Dude….do the Ranger paint job🥰🥰
As you say, don’t do the Fall Guy….it wasn’t a Ford for a start so is all wrong from the beginning, isn’t there any white wheels in the back catalogue that fit rather than painting the yellows?…..looking forward to seeing a blue Ranger soon, as always….keep up the good work 😎
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
I had slapped stickers straight on the body but if I could go back I would have done the highest quality paint job I could have. A real 1:1 truck would of had sweet paint work. Then clear coat over the stickers as well.
Thanks Paul 😊👊🏻
I bet the ranger will look cool but I just can’t really imagine it with the huge tires - will the Blackfoot truck accept anything even just a bit smaller?
Hmmm you know I’m not sure 🤔
Something like the size of the stadium blitzer rears would work on those rims. They’re only about 105mm instead of the 130 on the bf. Not a good tread probably but the right size 50mm wide by 55(57?)mm diameter. Good old 2.2x2 inch size
What about doing a Bigfoot livery?
