    You make me feel so much better. I lost my husband 15 years ago. We live in a mobile home and he started our dream remodel. New windows, drywall, flooring, tore off the old cheap siding, and replaced with insulation and new siding. Well, after getting the living room done, he got sick and couldn’t finish. So. Little by little I’m working on finishing the rest. Of course now I’m down to social security, and that doesn’t go very far. Watching this video helped me to take each day as it comes. Thank you so very much, and keep bringing the videos !!!

    Your absolutely right and I’m so glad your so upfront. I have friends that say, “Why are you doing that” I don’t play it safe at all. I listen out of respect but I don’t listen. I paint my furniture. I hang curtains above to elongate windows, I have used black, what a shocker but I make mistakes and I’m glad you give permission to make mistakes because we all do! I am deciding to redo my room (in a budget, a very severe budget) I have repainted my daughter’s (deceased ten years) dresser to white with modge podge, I repainted my dresser white and it has glass on the first drawers, and I shabby chic my end table and nothing is from the same lot! Lol! My bedding is black (looks grey) with nail heads and stones so beautiful! I’m going to pain my massive armoir and now I’ve decided I’m not just going to paint white but pink and green; my tv stand is green no not bright. I love that your real and all. Today a friend of mine came over as I wanted to redo my closet and put a pantry (even though it’s not a pantry) over the door because truth be known I have no garage like my last apartments, nor the storage but I don’t give up or in I decided to find storage, all because of you. I love your personality and talents. My friend is afraid of power tools even a drill but she used it and I say remember, Natalee says “ You are stronger what you think! She started, I’m so proud of her. But because again if you. You lift me up

    It’s so funny when I hear you say you fell in love with a bold sofa. I went to the furniture store once with a friend of mine and chose, what I thought, was a great love seat and chair. They were kind of old fashioned looking like something my grandmother would have in her house, but I loved it. It actually reminded me of my grandmother. We’ll, I sent my husband to pick them up and when he got there, he said to the guy, that’s not my furniture. And the guy said yes it is! My husband thought I was nuts and hated the furniture. But he did bring it home. I get more neutral furniture now. So I’ve been there! Love your channel!

    We moved to our new place almost two years ago then had a couple medical issues come up so I haven’t painted and I’m happy I didn’t because over time I have been pulling my place together with items I really treasure and I wanted the rooms to “speak to me” so happy you agree. We also have downsized and it’s not easy first I tried putting too many pieces into my liv room. Now I shape my rooms for things to accent with and give myself time to live with it before deciding if I’ll leave it that way. I enjoy learning new things from you or finding I’m on the right track. I love Pinterest I use to keep folders full of pictures and mag clippings too.

    Thank you Natalie.. this video helped me. I am working on changing my Victorian look LR into modern Farmhouse. I live in a small apartment. my kitchen is Farmhouse now after having a wine themed kitchen. I added a Black and White Buffalo checked runner for my table and have made alot of my wall decor and have gone to Dollar tree and purchased some cute Farmhouse pictures..LR and Kitchen are in the same room . I want my LR to look more elegant with a little Farmhouse added. took down all Victorian stuff and they went to Goodwill. listening to your video has helped me and I will look on Pinterest now to help me more.. My color theme is Burgundy and Beige with an off white accent. my couch is off white. the walls are lite beige. Cant change those but am trying my best to do what I can. As I have a small income.. Thank you again for posting this...I Love your videos ... Have a Good Week and if you have any ideas for me They would be greatly appreciated..

    Ugh...can lighting in my living room is the worst. No one looks good being lit from above. The only time I turn on my overhead can lights is if I drop something and can't find it on my patterned Oriental rug. I prefer the ambient light from my lamps. I wholeheartedly agree with you that when a room comes together over time, the results are so much better and I can always tell the difference.

    Nearly 20 years ago my husband and I painted our living room, foyer, and hall red, not bright, but red. I have loved it all this time and have just recently decided that soon I will repaint in a lighter, more neutral color. The problem with that is my sofa is black and chairs are red. I’m thinking of painting them. That’s really taking a chance for me. Really enjoy your videos!

    Thanks for advising "don't go into debt to decorate". We have all watched so many HGTV makeovers that we forget that they are sponsored by high end manufacturers. A whole generation has been convinced that anything less than stainless steel appliances are unacceptable. Same with with laminate floors and carpet. Guys if you really can't resist, maybe go all out in a smaller space but don't go into debt!

    • @designedtothenines
      @designedtothenines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree Angela! HGTV is awesome and wonderful but all of their new series kind of set a high standard. I remember back in the day when they used to have shows like design on a dime and decorating cents. Now that’s all about whole house makeovers top to bottom fully finished.

Right now my husband and I are adding built in bookcases to our family room. We purchased the base cabinets from the Home Depot. We will build the shelves ourselves. Your video on building shelves in your craft room, has helped us a lot! Thanks! I think that your plan for adding a fireplace and built ins to your family room sounds fab! Hi Natalie, what a great video, I felt like I could identify with each of the ten rules, I know I will be coming back to this video time and again, because boy have I made mistakes in the past, but after almost 42 years married I think I’m almost at a good place in the home, but there is always room for improvement. There are still mistakes made, (my red sofa moment was just like yours, I bought a huge white sofa a 2 chairs to go in a tiny room, with my son young and having his friends in and out of the house all day. That white furniture didn’t last 6 months, it ended up almost threadbare from me trying to clean it) So thank you for doing this video, stay safe xxxx

    Thank you for doing this video! I have been on pintrest and have googled how to decorate tastefully with collectibles. My favorite animal is the Panda. I love them and have lots. I want them out to enjoy them but I don't want to be tacky about it. I've tried finding large cloches to display them with, no luck unless I want to break the bank. I like primitive decor and I like farmhouse. I've been displaying my bears on shelves with books, and greenery. I bought a cabinet with glass doors, then added lights to display them but keep them protected at the same time. This video has made me feel better about my choices. Thank you and if you have more suggestions, I'm all ears.

    You always are so positive and just like sunshine. Thanks. I have a question. I bought my daughter I picture from pier one. It’s all she could talked about for month’s. I paid 1/4 of the original price with 20% off at Christmas. Its huge covers most of the largest wall. Its truly a statement piece. She has moved it several times. It’s approximately 4 feet square. How big is too big. Should it be centered on the wall all by it self? Should it be on the wall with other complementary pictures. Or next to the George the deer that my son-in-law had stuffed an mounted instead of the shelves I bought. Oh my🤫😬

    People here are saying how much you've inspired them to not be afraid to use power tools. Well...I just found you a couple weeks ago and the next day I was so determined to NOT have to count on my brother to help me with the things I'm too afraid to tackle on my own, so I went out and promptly bought my own little 66 piece project kit with a drill and bits AND a cute little case for everything I need all in one place.. So now on to my next project on my own. lol
    Love all your design and decorating tips!! And love love love your channel!!! Very professional and helpful. You will def have 100,000 happy subs in no time. Keep up the good work and thank you so much, NataLee!!

    P.S. I dont think I have ever been the first to leave a comment on anything. Also, I always forget to leave a comment because 9 times out of 10 I'm binge watching videos late at night when my two kiddos are in bed and im finally home after working my day job 5 days a week and my night job 6 days a week. So at night when I finally have a minute to myself I just binge all of my favorite videos and go from one to a other and forget to comment how much I love what you say or made or did!

    I love my home so much! We built it ourselves and moved in 4 years ago. But we’ve decided we are going to sell it. It has 5 acres and is a lot to take care of. We want to build again but smaller and less land. Saying all that I don’t want to spend more money decorating (because I haven’t finished all the rooms) but I don’t want it to look unfinished to a buyer. Any advice? Thanks for all the tips!

    I love white - light beige - pale straw - very pale warm taupes and grays - you get the idea. I am also a fanatic gardener (and forever dragging garden dirt into the house) with a large, cuddly dog that hops on the couch at will, and I have rambunctious grandkids. Thank God for Krypton and other high-performance indoor-outdoor fabrics! I splash the cash on those so that I don't have to be brave to get the light color palette I adore. Red wine spill? No problem, just sponge it off. Black dirt from Charlie's paws? -Ditto. Grandkids' acrylic paint artistic expression on the back of the upholstered head chairs at the dining table? -Spray my organic cleaner and use a sponge, it leaves no evidence. Play-Doh smushed into a cushion? Ditto. Don't gamble with your furniture! Use high-performance fabrics!

    NataLee, I trust your judgment, so I was wanting to ask you, I just got done making two sofa tables for my home and I got polycrylic to use as my sealant and then found out that if I use it on the white part it will probably "yellow". I have read up on waxing them, but don't want to have to do that every 6 months either. Do you know of any sealant that you have used that won't yellow the white paint?

    • @designedtothenines
      @designedtothenines  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are non-yellowing polycrylics . Check this one out: www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-qt-Clear-Satin-Water-Based-Interior-Polyurethane-2-Pack-200241H/202057137?mtc=Shopping-B-F_D24-G-D24-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-All_Paint&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D24-G-D24-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-All_Paint-71700000032325895-58700003835893712-92700054731759758&gclid=Cj0KCQjwoaz3BRDnARIsAF1RfLfvCddrUr21QW-SpxWlb8SaHkdNoB_HZSlCFl3h0u7SGfSPUsPmzeAaAtgDEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    I love Pinterest and I have a mood board for each one of my rooms. I think I'm about 50 thousand followers now. People don't understand also the simple tip of of using a couple black items in a room. It gives your eyes something to rest on as it moves around the room. Thanks for all your tips I love them.
    I thought I would add this that's one of my pet peeves. I absolutely hate hate hate when people hang their art too high. My sister and I used to do that and I wanted to go in and move her pictures around. Ughhh
    People also think that because a room is Tiny you have to use tiny things in it in Tiny Furniture which is not the case a lot of times it looks better with a couple large pieces , and yes curtains o curtains. That's another thing and it's a very hard thing to get right. Plus people need to cut themselves some slack. If you ever say the room is done that's a problem to me. They're never done. You keep changing and that's the fun of it. And please no matching match e

    I do wish I had picked another couch! It’s brown and bulky and not at all what I had in mind, but my husband liked it and I picked the dining room so I kind of felt like I needed to let him pick, lol. I shouldn’t have, cause it just sits like an eye sore and doesn’t go with anything else.

    The farmhouse design theme has been popular for a long time. Do you think it will stick around for a while or will it be on its way out in the next few years? My previous design mistakes have been being on the tail end of a trend and being stuck with it for the next 10+ years.

    • @designedtothenines
      @designedtothenines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally don’t believe farmhouse will be going out of style anytime soon… What will vary is how farmhouse his portrayed. A few years ago there were a little bit more hands and roosters and reds and greens and golds. But I like this newer farmhouse look because it’s a little bit more classic feeling. So in answer to your question I think it’s going to be around for a while.👍🏻

      wall is off white. It is in a mobile home and added 25k to the total value. There is enough room for 2 to prep and 1 to do cleanup. Grown children are a real blessing.
