I bought one of these direct from the Gibson Demo Shop a few years back for $899. Mine has the 498T in the bridge and came with a hard case. The maple neck is actually pretty flamey, but the body on mine is a bit more oddly figured compared to your example. No poker chip with mine though. I've got a string butler to help with the break angle at the nut to improve tuning and will probably swap out the PCB for the upgraded one with push/pull pots for splits and such. Great value IMO.
That's a nice faded les paul! Hard to tell but looks like you may of lucked out getting a one piece mahogany back too! Interesting how the open pickups really do sound more bright and spanky compared to to covered pickups, also with the maple neck it's got a great tone. I love my Les Paul, they aren't cheap but there is something special about them!
Thanks! I think you're right about the back, lucky. It's got a lot of guts overall. Very well suited to heavy rock. It's naturally a very aggressive sounding guitar which surprised me at first. It can be mellow with a a tweak of the tone knob, but it wants to rock! Nice guitar. Very very light too. The other LP or LP types I have are mostly weighty bricks. Not sure if you're mostly a LP person? For me, this one was a great find as it has a fast feel like my Ibanez and Fender but is the proper made in America Gibson I wanted. If you're really really interested lol, I also did a video vs my Epiphone LP Studio. There is a huge difference in sound: th-cam.com/video/1K6EBMKNCt8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Wuv7_fAiTbg0vzYV
I've always been a big fan of the less appointed Les Paul's. Sometimes the standards are so pretty their owners are afraid to play them. Most folk don't appreciate the genuine beauty of the natural faded guitar finishes.
Totally agree. I love this guitar a lot. This being cheaper, lighter, and a very pure real rock machine was just a great fit for my needs. I feel more connected to the guitar without all the extra finish etc. I want to be in contact with the wood of the guitar. It just feels right. Thanks very much for watching!
