most people think that Casper is on the cover of this album but it’s actually his nephew drew Johnston (who at the time was still a baby) and the reason it’s called Yip/jump music is because whenever Danny would say “Yip Jump! Yip Jump” drew would jump around in his little Johnny jumper :) Edit: (this parts a bit darker) While recording the album in his brothers garage, Daniel was under the delusion that he was dying/going to die/and or was already dead. This theme would go on to repeat itself in later albums.
I had a friend in middle school who passed away from running the mile. He wanted to be like the other kids and winded up overexerted himself. Everyone talked about how much they loved him, even those who ignored him. There was even one guy who claimed he was his best friend even though he called him a retard a week before his death. This song hits hard. RIP kind soul.
My sister blasted this song from her playlist of her favorite songs in her car when I was 13 years old. Once I first heard this song, I was in love. Then she played some other songs by Daniel Johnston, and I begin to love his music even more. Next year after, my sister told me that he passed away. I was like "The one guy that sings "Casper The Friendly Ghost"?" And she told me "Yes". I was in shock because I just discovered his music last year before his passing. R. I. P. Daniel Johnston, I ❤ your music. Now, I just recently discovered David Lynch's music. I listened to "Crazy Clown Time".
Named my son Casper bc of this song....he is almost 18, and feels so distant. It sucks. He is the only one I meant to have. I wish he knew how much I love him
Soooo many quotes from this film. "3 penny's and a ball of lint kid" other than the "butterscotch" and the "mad flow" comment, this one sticks in my head the most.
I was lucky enough to find out about him before he passed, but I think there was much more going on than just his fans, and truthfully I'm not sure how many random people you'd even want to be relating to your music, especially if they miss the message or meaning. Either way, there's way too much to talk about when it comes to topics like that, but the man was a legend.
All my life my dad has had Daniel Johnston art around the house and I had no idea who he was. I only really listened to him a couple months ago and I didn’t even realize he passed until a few weeks later. Rest his soul.

he was so very ahead of his time. gone way too soon. what a beautiful and unique soul.. i hope that where ever he is now is the most peaceful, wonderful realm, where hes appreciated fully
Just incredible...I didn't know that so many cool bands covered him. Didn't hear this song until I saw Kids. I loved The Spacemen 3...and loved The Spectrum cover of True Love will find you in the end. Rest in peace to a real genious

And now they say we'll never forget what he learned us
We were mean to him but he never burned us
His love lives forever
Did he just create a backstory for Casper? Because that's kind of cool.
@@wsjustice l think he was singing about himself
He is just singing about himself he thought he turned into Casper on a plane

Thanks for this. Reminds me of this Robin Williams movie “Worlds Greatest Dad”. Everybody “respects” the dead (generally) even if they really didn’t.

RIP Daniel Johnston ...

Is scary how know this song is becoming true... "everybody respects the dead"
He had my respect in 83 and I was born in 87

Facts!
What does this even mean? Haven’t people have respected the dead forever?
Becoming? That's always been the case. Hence. "Its not wise to speak I'll of the dead"
One of my favourite songs in the entire world. RIP friend thank you for everything you did for us. 💜
me too dude, me too!
At a thrift store and a kid is playing with a toy then I hear “the coyote goes ohohohoh” crazy.. lol
"He was smiling through his own personal hell.."
What a way to open a song.
Kids wouldn't be the same without this song
RIP Daniel! Thank you for your music. I feel alive when I listen to your tunes
I'll forever see the image of the black guy getting blasted upside the head with the skateboard every time I hear this song
Ryan Smith it's a movie reference on TH-cam search kids 1995 and watch it I love it
Break it, fill it, lick it, twist it, SMOKE IT.
I think I'll pass. I don't want that image associated with this great song.
Opinunate ted The movie is actually quite good. It tackles with social issues of children during the aids epidemic that was going on in the 90's.
Yes absolutely! One of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

This is really cool. I like the vocals, and the instruments. I've never heard anything quite like it.
Funny how this song exemplifies so perfectly the scene now that he passed

I listen to this when I’m very low. Hearing him slamming his fingers on the keyboard helps me feel less alone in my anger and frustration
This guy can cheer me up or break my heart.
