I’m so happy for Emma and I’m glad I went with my gut. 🌟
Sometimes you gotta go with your gut! I'm an over-analyzer. Well done! 🙂
Happy for Emma! It looks like your experiment with acting should consider the movie as well because more of the industry liked Poor Things than Killers of the Flower Moon. Your industry voting predicted Emma.
Absolutely. The Best Picture point was supposed to account for the films they liked. But it’s clear that just because a film gets a Best Picture, that doesn’t mean It’s widely loved. Back to the drawing board! 👍🏻
@@RyanCasselmanand the last aired ceremony bonus point should be the last ceremony before voting starts haha cuz sag certainly didn’t help much this yeah like 😂
@@RyanCasselmanfor my prediction the screenplay miss for killers was what tipped the scales and made me go with Emma so maybe including the screenplay nom somehow in the formula could help. Also what the commenter above me said, sag happening in the middle of voting wasn't the boost in momentum we were expecting after last year.
@@RyanCasselmanMaybe another factor should be amount of screen time all things considered.
@@RyanCasselmanI’m sorry your math did not work. I have a feeling you need to inject the time when voting was done. First 3 days of voting mattered, SAG did not even happen yet, I think that pushed Emma to the top. Overall, im extremely disappointed that the Academy keeps on awarding previous white winners, at the expense of celebrating and embracing a Native American Nation’s stained cultural history and rich heritage. Do Billie and Emma need 2 Oscars at this stage of their careers?
Ryan, you are shaping up to be one of the best content creators covering movies and the Oscar race. Your dedication with the acting and picture race experiments is extraordinary. I hope you continue to flourish and gain a larger following because I am sure audiences will greatly enjoy your content. Thanks for being so dedicated and meticulous and fun to watch - will stay tuned for more Oscar videos from you! ❤️
P.S. NEVER DOUBT YOUR HEART - should have stuck with Emma from the beginning hahaha
Aw shucks. You are too kind! Even if I never grow a larger following, I can't tell you how appreciative I am to those who currently watch my videos. A really big thank you to everyone! Looking forward to bringing you even more this coming Oscar season!! ❤🙃
Fave win of the night - Emma Stone! And Poor Things' other three wins.
Career-wise, Gladstone's decision to go lead will pay off. She'll get considered as a lead for future projects and not just a one-off supporting gig. Of course it must suck to not win, but I'm sure with perspective she'll be very glad she stuck to lead.
Who gets to decide who is the lead? I think their work should speak for itself and not for them to decide.
@@iris089 Isn't that a decades long issue? I mean, Anthony Hopkins won lead with less than 20 minutes of screen time. Marlon Brando was 40-ish minutes in The Godfather. I would call both leading roles. So from where I'm standing, this isn't a screen time issue.
I also feel there should be a clearer set of rules, but what if an important role clocks right under the limit? Is it automatically disquialified?
@@memorieswithouthomes1438 I think the role should speaks for itself if it's a lead. I don't think it's a screen time issue but who is actually leading the narrative.
@@iris089 To come back to your original comment, who do you think should have the agency to choose who's lead and who's supporting?
@@memorieswithouthomes1438 The Oscars themselves. I think in the past they reject submissions for being in the wrong category. I think an example is when Kate Winslet submitted for The Reader for Supporting and Revolutionary Road for Lead. Oscars rejected The Reader for Support so both films became lead.
Your content is incredible, man. So happy for the recent success your channel’s gotten. A new favorite Oscar aficionado of mine to watch!
Thanks Jaren!!! I'll never forget early supporters like yourself. 🤗
Very well done! Just what I was looking for!
I’m incredibly happy with Oppenheimer winning big. Great that RDJ and Christopher Nolan finally have won an Academy Award, two for Nolan, and that Cillian Murphy won. Truly deserved. It was also pretty cool that Emma won. Not upset over that win. Perhaps Lily Gladstone will be nominated again and possibly win.
My guess until 2026 Oscars
There were a lot of great wins, but my favorite moment of the night (surpassing I'm Just Ken, even) was hearing them say "The Zone of Interest" for Sound. YES!!!!! Brilliant work rewarded. Everyone was so certain it was Oppenheimer.
Sometimes Bafta is also important for prediction oscar not SAG award always..... congratulations Enma stone, very well deserved
Thanks for great award season content Ryan! Keep it up :)
Thanks Nadine! I know you’ve been a long time supporter. I really appreciate it!
I put Emma's name on my Gold Derby page the day after seeing Poor Things and never even thought about changing it. I had done the same thing with Anthony Hopkins over Boseman. Sometimes quality of performance just overrides narrative. Bella Baxter is one of the most original, and memorable characters ever created for the silver screen....it's an automatic classic. Now excuse me, but " I must go punch a baby."
thank you, Ryan, for your smarts and for your spirit of how all of these movie awards work. I've watched other awards content creators, but you are my favorite, esp because you aren't always yelling. When you get excited, it is earned and not just yelling for yelling's sake. Thank you for a wonderful season... here's to watching more movies!
Thank you! I try not to over-react, but sometimes getting it wrong just hurts and when a film/or actor defies the odds, it's just thrilling. Thanks for all the support! Here's to the Oscars 2025! 🙃
Really glad that The Boy and the Heron won Best Animated Feature, along with Zone of Interest for Best Sound and Emma Stone for Best Actress. It doesn't seem fair to me that Henry Sugar and War is Over won in their respective categories since it's like a AAA team making a short vs a bunch of smaller indie studios, and although I agree with Henry Sugar winning, my favorite live action short was Invincible. Still, I'm happy for all the winners. It was a great night.
Agree on all counts. All in all a pretty great slate of winners. The Boy and the Heron FLOORED me. I had NO idea the Academy was there yet. I think we are going to start seeing some really inspiring winners in the next coming years.
Fun stuff, man!
One finding - the Oscars finals voting started a few days after BAFTA and it seems a huge influence there.
Look forward to your updated formula next year! 😉
Absolutely. I think that was a HUGE factor. I'll definitely do an update. Thanks!
Ryan, it looks like you're getting stabbed with invisible knives when there's a shock win lol
Hahaha. It feels like that sometimes.
The Oscar Expert twins have competition with Ryan's reactions 🤣
I met Oscar Expert and Brother Bro at TIFF last year. They honestly could not have been nicer. Oscar Expert gave me a shout out on his channel too! I never could or would want to compete with those guys. They're the GOATS. I'd love to react with them one day. Haha.
I really took all your "marbles" to heart and went heavy on Poor Things at my Oscar party. I ended up getting 21/23 missing animated short and hair/makeup.
I should have taken my "marbles" to heart! You did fantastic! 21/23 👌Great job!
So happy for Cillian well deserved
A great ceremony for a great year of film, at least in my view on both! Looking forward to seeing what the next year brings (I have my eye on A Real Pain for now, at least in Screenplay)
Any Lily fans who are upset better support her career and make every movie she makes a smash, otherwise that outrage was purely performative.
Its performative. Its twitter, they are all fake.
Sounds like final winner voting timelines do indeed make a difference after all.
Absolutely. Big lesson for me to not disregard early voting advantage.
Ryan Gosling gave an all timer of a performance at the Oscars absolute brilliance!
Been watching the Oscars for YEARS. Definitely one of the greatest Oscar moments I've seen. I watched it six times today 😂 It was PURE entertainment.
I guessed every category except Costume Design and Sound. I should have bet online 😢. I hardly ever guess so many wins. This is a new international Academy, so predictors should pay attention to festival winners and the BAFTAs. Lily Gladstone was in the wrong category, it's Apple TV + fault. I hope Emma doesn't feel guilty, she deserved it.
Great job Monica! I should have peeked at your predictions before locking in mine. Those two categories were TOUGH. I can't imagine many people predicted Sound correctly this year.
Hey Ryan would you consider doing an early Oscar predictions vid just so this channel is not too dead for the next six months and so we start our 2024 watchlists?
I'll probably take me a few weeks. But I'll definitely do an early Oscar predictions and talk about all the upcoming slate of Oscar hopefuls! 🙃
@@RyanCasselman Yay thank you cannot wait I am dying to fill up that watchlist already
Emma Stone's performance came from a Yorgos Lanthimos film which for some reason could pull voters like how they did with The Favourite. Also, if Emma was to lose, it's not to Lily but to Sandra Huller or Annette Bening based on performance.
Great season, Ryan!
I was pretty miffed about Spider-Verse missing but Godzilla made up for it.
What would you say is the best way to stay ahead of what might get nominated, especially for some of the foreign films that have very late streaming releases? I almost missed seeing zone of interest before the show and we missed the boy and the heron's theatrical window.
Great Oscar season. Will you be making any new type of Oscar content this year?
It was a great and looong season. I'll make an Early 2025 Oscar Predictions/Preview for Upcoming movies first probably. But I have some more Oscar videos I have planned I'm hoping will be something you all like 🤞
@@RyanCasselman Definitely enjoying your unique take on Oscar season and would definitely enjoy early Oscar content. Looking forward to it 😁
Emma Stone and Da'Vine Joy Randolph gave beautiful and moving speeches. This ceremony was good despite Jimmy Kimmel hosting again.
They need to bring someone new next year!
Nah, I respect Lily Gladstone for going lead. A lot of supporting nominees struggle to get taken seriously as a lead afterwards and her going for lead says she sees herself as a leading lady.
That's very true. I just hope to see a lot more of her.
Getting nominated in lead doesn’t prove she can carry a movie as an actual lead though.
Cillian Murphy did go to after parties and seemed to have a great time actually. And i knew it would be a BAFTA match as soon as Boy and the Heron won lol
Great video as always, Ryan.
I had a bit of an eye roll moment when Poor Things won Costume Design over Barbie. Both great costumes…but I think one is going to be remembered for years and it’s not this year’s winner.
Great reactions! I gambled on Boy and the Heron, which I am very happy for, but you were right. BAFTA was key here this ceremony. I missed some categories too. My favourite film of the year (Past Lives) would not get anything as expected, but Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall are right up there for me, and extremely happy for their wins. Poor Marty though. 10 nominees and yet again no wins.
You got Boy and the Heron!? Well done!!!! As soon as Boy and the Heron won, I was like "UH OH. I've made a huge mistake with some of these." The Academy never ceases to surprise me.
@@RyanCasselman Yeah, I locked it in and felt I made a big mistake haha. I did miss in a bunch of categories like vfx, costume, adapted screenplay, best sound (I didn't think the Academy would be cool enough to give it to Zone of Interest), actress and make-up.
Anatomy of a Fall winning Best Original Screenplay was my favorite win. It should have won more but what can you do? Many other good films went home with nothing.
Personally it joins a list of Best Original Screenplay winners who I would have picked as the Best Picture over what actually won that year (Pulp Fiction, Manchester by the Sea, Promising Young Woman, and Belfast are four others since 1990 I'd swap out).
Hell the list gets longer when I can pick any of the nominated movies for Best Original Screenplay. Nominees for Best Original Screenplay who I would have easily swapped for the Best Picture win include Zero Dark Thirty, Lady Bird, The Favourite.
Emma Stone gave the performance of the year. (Not to be denied.) I'm delighted "Last Repair Shop" won. So good. (Everybody should watch it!) Would have loved to have seen Paul Giamatti win, but there's no question Cillian Murphy was totally worthy. (He's wonderful.) Was rooting for "Society of the Snow," but I knew THAT wasn't happening! (Also loved "Perfect Days.") Disappointed Wes Anderson was a "no show." (I love his work so much.) Very happy about "The Boy and the Heron." (Miyazaki is such a legend.) I really loved the vocal performance of Tim Blake Nelson ("Ninety-five Senses"), but I didn't love the animation. I preferred "Letter to a Pig." (Very cool animation!) Messi as "Snoop" for Best Dog!
THE BOY AND THE HERON BABY 🥳
AND GODZILLA 🎉🎊
AND CILLIAN 🤌 AND NOLAN 👑
I kinda knew Lily wouldn’t wind. Emma stone carried Poor Things. If they would have left LIly as a Best Supporting nominee she would have won. I thought it was a mistake to move her. 🤷♀️
Love your content, but bruh… why are you doing this with us? Get yourself to a watch party my dude! This is the Super Bowl!
Favorite win: Stone
Most shocking win: Poor Things for makeup/hairstyling
I missed these two, as well as animated feature and sound. Part of me is hoping to beat my 2021 score of 21/23, but another part of me loves to be wrong/not bored.
Good luck on getting a perfect score! I think you’ll pull it off in a few years, once we get used to this new Academy voting body.
Makeup absolutely shocked me too. I don't even feel bad for missing Animated Feature and Sound because that is so out of character with the 'usual' Academy. It's exciting though! 21/23 is already quite the accomplishment! Hoping we both get 23/23 next year! Cheers!
Watch Anatomy of a Fall and Sandra Hüller to see real old-school acting. Emma Stone was fine, though.
🎉🎉🎉oscars🎉🎉🎉
7:56 ❤
I’m soooo glad that Oppenheimer won big!!
I’m glad that Godzilla Minus One won best visual effects.
I’m sad that they forgot Lance Reddick from John Wick and Akira Toriyama creator of Dragon Ball for the “In Memoriam” section.
To be fair, Akira Toriyama died pretty recently, so maybe they’ll add him next year(hopefully).
Maybe next time insert chapter brakes?
I’m just Ken was robbed 😢 I hate that they always go with slow boring songs.
Was rooting for Sandra Hüller, but Emma Stone put on an amazing performance and deserves the Oscar. Still not a fan of Poor Things. Hope Gladstone’s career gets a boost. She’s very talented 😌
What, no review of Nimona..................
Zone of interest deserved it
So you got the hots for John Cena hahaha we can get it
😆
@@RyanCasselman 🔥🔥🔥
Aren’t you glad I harangued you about War is Over!
VEEEEEERRRY glad. 😆 You were one of those people I was referring to in my video for convincing me to switch. 👍
Lily Gladstone wouldn't stand a chance in the Supporting category against Da'vine Joy Randolph.
You may be right. We'll never know.
I find it hilarious tt 99% o pundits/experts r so totally blindsided by SAG, they switch camp immediately when Lily wins SAG! 😂
Its a Best Leading Actress competition, not Best Missing most o the times Award!!
LOL! but true :)
You missed the visual effects dude
No he didn’t it’s at 8:51
Sound for ZoInterest
The way this guy hates lily gladstone. When Colman was Supporting in The favorite?
Stone won only because she's an american actress and belong to the Hollywood mainstream 😐
For the rest of the world 🌎 the real Best Leading Actress is Sandra Hüller, by "Anatomy of a Fall" 😉💪🏻
Was really pulling for my girl to pull one of the hardest dark horse upsets in history
That was a stupid reason for you to think Emma Stone won because she's an American Actress. She was strong in that category. It was between her and Lily Gladstone
Lily Gladstone was not in the wrong category, and I really wish people would stop saying she was. To carry the weight of the story of your people is a tremendous task, and her role is not in support of that story, she takes charge of it.
Lily Gladstone wouldn't stand a chance in the Supporting category against Da'vine Joy Randolph.
He looks like a person watch the telecast but reacts in the replays and clippings in TH-cam.
Lilly Gladstone was robbed.
She got nomination that she didn’t belong. She got recognition and support. Everything is going to be okay
No, Sandra Hüller was robbed 😖🤦🏻♂️
No lily Gladstone not deserved, she is supporting.....only Emma stone and Sandra huller deserve best actress this year.
Lily Gladstone wouldn't stand a chance in the Supporting category against Da'vine Joy Randolph.@@muhammadhazim7399
