Rode the messer and it’s great. Happy to see you liked the MC2 more than the Grip2

I do but I'm not sure how much of it has to do with the air spring setup versus the damper. Either way it just feels better

Good timing. I'm actually considering a Trance Advanced Pro 2 vs several other options. Reach at 455 for M looks about spot on (I'm 177cm tall) but concerned the ETT of 597 may make for a slightly tight cockpit? I know ETT alone doesn't tell the whole story but overall what are your thoughts and how does it compare to your former Izzo (size L) which is also a bike I've been thinking about given the value (along with Canyon)

Get the trance. The rear kinematic and suspension is so much better it's kind of hard to believe. The M trance with a 45-50mm will basically fit the same as a L Izzo with a 40mm stem. You can also fit a significantly longer dropper. (I am running a 170mm on the trance where I had to slam a 150 on the Izzo) plus the downhill comfort at speed is much, much better on the trance. Just check the torque on the pivots before the first few rides! I am 175cm so if you run a 50mm stem you'll be spot-on. Canyon doesn't really make a bike like this. Their "down country" bike is still basically an xc race bike with a longer fork, and their 125mm bike is definitely more downhill oriented compared to the trance. This bike pedals very efficiently. (You could take the live valve off the complete build and be fine)

@@KlintonSilvey Thanks for the detailed response much appreciated! By Canyon I presume you're referring to the Lux Trail or Spectral 125? I would think their new 2023 revised geo Neuron would be more similar to the Trance but better/worse no idea. Cheaper yes, but I do like the lifetime frame warranty with Giant plus there is a Giant store 10 min from home to quickly handle issues vs. shipping things around myself. Pros/cons always...

@@fromoutwest Yes I was thinking of the Lux Trail and Spectral 125. I forgot the Neuron even existed. Gotta go with the LBS if you can, though!

@@KlintonSilvey Picked up a Trance Advanced Pro 2 on clearance. Only ridden around the block can’t wait to get it out on the trails in the spring (too wet and winter is coming). So far I think the 40mm stem should be fine but will know more after a few rides

@@fromoutwest good man! Only bike I have never changed the shock spacers on!

    How's the Mattoc holding up?

It's so good. I haven't serviced it at all yet and it's still awesome. For a shorter travel fork I think it's definitely top of the class. The Mezzer is great too, but I would be happy on a Zeb or 38 as well if that's just what came on a bike. But the Mattoc is a big step up from the 34 Grip 2
