    I was a MASSIVE Glitter Band fan back in the golden days. Fan club member, gig goer, bought all the records etc. Massively underrated. Great interview!

      @@andreasboose5611 = And mine too = I bought ALL their singles (45rpm) plus the album "Hey"
      It eventually led me to gradually crossover to full blown Rock - Mott The Hoople & Bad Company
      With hindsight it WAS because of the mighty Gerry Sheppard that I took up electric guitar
      Even though I later learned it was actualy Mike Leander that made those early guitar sounds & riffs**
      ** "Rock N' Roll Parts 1 & 2" and "Didn't Know I Loved Ya Till I saw You Rock N' Roll"
      But it was Gerry Sheppard playing the heavy riff on "Just For You" Love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I just played People like you and Love in the sun, Gary Glitter was never the Glitter band as far as I'm concerned. Any time I play any Glitter band stuff I'm transported right back to Happy days back in the 70s as 13/14 year old having a great time with my friends. Love all Glitter band always ❤

    Dear Mr. Springate,
    First of all, what a lovely interview, and how glad I am to be able to see it. Given that I am born in the 2000s, I am obviously too young to have experienced the Glittermania of the 70s...
    But still, I adore all of Glam Rock deeply. Listening to your bass playing makes me want to improve my bass skills too, I must admit. Thank you for the huge inspiration.
    I would've loved to see you live on stage for once, so I welcome you to come to tour Germany⭐️
    PS: You're doing fantastic for your majestic age! "Rock On",
    Andy

    I loved The Glitter Band with and without GG. That sound, double drums and hand clap was unique for the 70's glam rock era. I loved 'Let's get together again' and 'Hello Hello, I'm back again' in particular. Still play them today and not ashamed to do so. A great era of music as John says, T-Rex (Marc Bolan), Wizzard, Sweet, Suzi Quatro and many more. A very informative interview all in a good way. I hope people will not label them because of GG's behaviours, as TGB were a FAB group in their own right completely.

Talking of stardust..Alvin stardust had a great guitarist chris spedding. 🎸70s were great..all the good bands from 60s went into the 70s..i loved glam heavy and punk rock..we had reggae soul disco. Cheesey bubble gum pop. Some was shite. But most was magnificent. The sound track to our lives..long live the 70s 🎶🎵🎹🥁🎸we were there..

    John you wouldn't remember but you played oadby students hall Leicester in 1981 with the glitter band it was a great gig and afterwards we went to our rooms and had a party playing glitter music loud. You and some of your band came round to meet us, it was great meeting you, what a great guy!

    Great interview! So good to see something Glitter Band related online nowadays. I`ve never sat down to list them but if I ever do I`d be surprised if `Goodbye My Love` doesn`t feature in my favourite top ten singles from the 1970`s. I`ve often thought I hope that John Springate (who`s looking very well for over 70!)and the other songwriters from The Glitter Band are getting some royalties because I never hear the Glitter Band on the radio. Shame as they made some great music.

      Yeah well, apart from John Springate, and maybe Pete Phipps, both Gerry Shephard,
      and Harvey Ellison have now left this "Mortal Coil"

      Sadly, radio stations removed all references to the word Glitter, following the conviction of Gary Glitter. The band had no involvement with private Glitter's life but paid a heavy price by association. Their catalogue of music remains some of the finest of the glam rock era. Mike Leander gave the band an incredible sound which still sounds great today.

    • @SJHUE
      @SJHUE ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right it is very sad. You are also right when you describe their music as some of Glam rocks finest. It was a special sound and although I can listen to it anytime I like it doesn`t seem right that future generations likely never will.@@711honved

    I have all their albums "Hey" "Rock n Roll Dudes" "Listen to the Band" and "Paris Match" and
    consider them, along with "Sweet" and "Slade" to be the "Icons" of the 70's.

    I liked the Glitter Band and their music which is amazing. I was about eleven or twelve when I first bought their single. But didnt hear much about them as the years passed which would have been great.

    Saw TGB in 1984 when I was young punk in Paignton, Torbay. I joined a band that was formed that night. I then managed to play in a band supporting TGB in Birmingham around 2014 (I think). Always loved their sound and the members I met in 2014 were proper gents

  • @ViscountVile
    @ViscountVile 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    John refers to how punk meant "that was it", but he doesn't mention that from around 1980, the band re-formed (playing with GG) and they were headlining punk gigs, embraced by wildly enthusiastic punk audiences! I saw some of these and they were phenomenal. The Glitter Band would play powerful versions of Angel Face and Goodbye My Love when GG went off for a break.

    Gary Glitter may have had a damaging effect on the career of The Glitter Band, but the hatred Pete Phipps had for John Rossall was far more damaging. Instead of letting both bands tour and enjoy what carreers they were able to carve out, it was constant war of legal battles, spiteful actions and nasty comments that really dragged the band down.

  • @paultaylor7082

    Great group, the Glitter Band. Unfortunately Gary's antics severely damaged the reputation of the Glitter Band, even though they had nothing to do with it. A unique sound, 2 drummers (unheard of in virtually all pop groups at the time), droning saxaphones and a unique guitar sound.
