    I wash my cabinets with Murphy Oil Soap once a month and by washing them once a month, there’s no grease buildup and it doesn’t take long to clean them. I’ve used Murphy Oil soap on my cabinets for 33 years and my cabinets look great!

      You keep a clean home just as I do, but you would be AMAZED at how filthy many people are. I wish I could add photos to this post because I could show you what my current rental looked like upon moving in. I have never moved into a place a filthy as this one was/is. I have been cleaning for months now, and I still have months of cleaning left to do. I have not even begun to tackle the outside yet.

    Angela, I LOVE YOU! Finally, we have a content provider that demonstrates proper cleaning methods. Too many people want to use the next best product or easiest product on the market. As you mentioned, these products are too powerful.
    My brother and I have been trying to keep our aged parents in their home. Well, there are certain chores that get put aside for another day. Sadly, it is the kitchen cabinetry that gets neglected. I feel that the doors should be removed as the entire surface requires the pre-treatment.
    Thank you for sharing your expertise.

The drill buffing and murphys was good for clean cabinets. My cabinets are definitely better. But it was not as easy as I thought it would be. Thank you for the tips.

      It's actually possible that the built up grease was starting to eat through the finish and it wasn't the cleaning product. I've had one of those plug in oil air freshener things take the paint off a shelf that was too near that outlet. Prolonged exposed to certain oils can start to take off finishes.

It’s greasy and non aerosol so similar to the cutting board oil in consistency I wanted to get more but it’s been discontinued They’ve changed to a 2 in 1 clean and polish formula It says it will remove wax build up by letting it sit on the surface for 5 minutes I bought it for the rest of the woodwork in the house. I don't have an issue with greasy gunk build up other than on the blinds/thing above our stove (it's a vent thing from the 80s that used to have a massive microwave in it and one of these days we will replace it with a proper hood but it's a space with odd dimensions and we're trying to figure out how best to handle it). HOWEVER - my cabinets have the recessed panels in them like those in this video and giving them a good scrub down is such a chore. That drill brush is the tool I never knew I needed. I've been putting off giving the cabinets a good cleaning - I was going to get started today - but I simply must obtain that tool first. It seems the green one is "medium" stiffness and there are a few colors of medium stiffiness, yellow, blue, and green - the color is just so you can keep them straight for dedicated chores. Good to know for anyone looking to buy. So I have a set of brushes ordered and now this task I have been putting off... well now I can't wait to get started! • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Are the layers also wood? Are they sealed wood? And is it all the same type of wood or are they different types of wood? The best option for something like this (assuming it's a custom piece, which suggests it could be pricy is to contact the manufacturer or store of the brand and ask if they have a custom or proprietary product they use for cleaning - and if using it will void the warranty. They often sell something that is in alignment with the products they sell and if something malfunctions they will honor the warranty. Does that make sense?

    2.) Take off knobs, and soak in Dawn dish soap and water for 10+ minutes
    3.) Take a foam paint “tester” brush (black foam applicator, wooden handle), and “paint” on food - grade mineral oil used to moisturize cutting boards. Store in an away / safe place. Wipe after 10 minutes with a cellulose sponge, which you will dispose of after cleaning the cabinets.

    I found it interesting the food grade mineral oil is also toxic. A tip I saw on a home diy channel involved cleaning greasy hands (think mechanics) without harsh chemicals to dry them out. Like dissolves like so use cooking oil to get the tough grease off then finish with dish soap and hot water. Sounds like the same principle as using the mineral oil.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In the video I was referring to the mineral oil as food grade. You are ok to use it on your cutting boards. Here is the definition of "food grade" www.csidesigns.com/blog/articles/what-is-food-grade and here is the Safety Data Sheet for the Mineral Oil used in this video. www.howardproducts.com/files/sds/HOW-113_Cutting-Board-Oil-1.pdf It is important to note that mineral oil is a liquid made from petroleum. While it is used for many ordinary household things and is safe for the intended purposes, using it in a manner inconsistent way (such as confusing it with other kitchen oils) could have fatal effects. The warning is to keep it in a locked area when not using it on your cabinets or cutting board and it is NOT intended for consumption.

      For a greasy stovetop, you can use a degreaser or dish soap. Leaving it on (dwell time) shouldn't be a problem because the surface of the stovetop will have a gloss coat or an enamel on it. After you've scrubbed the surface and the stovetop is clean, rinse and wipe any soap or degreaser residue from the surface before cooking again. 👍

    Great video! Very informative! One question: how can the mineral oil be fatal if swallowed, when it's a) food-grade, and b) recommended for use on cutting boards (which will, of course, mean that food cut on that cutting board will be in contact with the mineral oil, which means that you end up swallowing mineral oil when you eat that cut food)? I normally use mineral oil to treat my cutting boards, but if it *IS* toxic, maybe I should find some other way to condition them?

    Maybe to use a steamer as auto detailers use . For certain uses they wrap a small microfiber towel around the tip , attached with rubber band , etc. To minimize the steam / heat from having a negative effect .

      Are they wood? If yes, are they sealed? If yes, the same method can be used. The mineral oil is clear, will remove the grease, and can be wiped right off. 👍

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      Yes, it's safe to use on painted, wood, steel, metal and plastic. The key is to make sure you wipe it all off with the grease.

    I had pretty good luck using Meguires citrus power plus cleaner. It also works nearly instantly on sticky soda or built up dead skin on car interiors. We even tried it at Pizza Hut to clean the FRP walls full of grease and it worked far better than the industrial degreaser that was supplied to us.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question, What are the walls made of? Is it drywall? Is there a backsplash? Is it stucko? Wood paneling? Wallpapered? Painted? The secret will be in knowing the surface type so we can pick the right solution for removing the soil. 😀

    I would never, ever put a "fatal if swallowed" product on a cutting board. I use pure, USP certified safe and pure mineral oil on my cutting boards, and walnut oil on wooden bowls and wooden cooking utensils. USP certified safe mineral oil is also easier to find and less expensive than the product you show. One can find it on the laxative shelf of the drug store. It is widely used in the woodworking hobby and cabinet/furniture making industry. Walnut oil is hard to find and expensive, likely available at a high-end woodworking specialty store or the largest supermarket in your area. Smaller and medium sized grocery stores do not have enough space to carry a lesser-bought item. It too is food safe.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good points. Thanks for joining the conversation and offering other alternatives to cutting board oil. This is a food-grade product designed for cutting boards to nourish and seal the wood. Used improperly or consumed by humans (inconsistent with its intended use - it can be fatal.) The key is to be aware of the hazards or dangers of any product used by referring to the safety data sheets and then using them responsibly. In this situation we are putting them on cabinets - and not near food.👍
