  • Say Nagaland and you think of Naga insurgency, guns, calls in the past for a sovereign nation and now the Framework Agreement and the elusive Naga Accord. But the youth of Nagaland, educated and going to college, have other aspirations. Jobs, digital connectivity, good roads for their state and respect for all religions. Monideepa Banerjie was in Nagaland's biggest city Dimapur ahead of the assembly elections and decided to talk not just to politicians but to young students as well to find out what young Nagaland wants. Many of the students are first-time voters and confident their one vote will make a difference.

If they prefer christianity first we should accept it but along with they consider themselves as Indian(those who seeking for independence) then it will be better for our country india. +Ashutosh Kumar the capital kohima has been selected under the smart city plan. Hopefully things will get better. And as for connectivity with the South asian nations, things are moving at a snail pace. One major hurdle is insurgency in the easter frontier through which burma is connected. Guwahati is 5 hrs away by train from our commercial capital dimapur. To develop Dimapur into a metropolitan would be a huge leap not only for us, but also for other neighbouring states like Manipur, upper assam.

Is NDTV a BJP aided channel? Hello madam when the students say about the good governance issue conciding with 25 dec (christmas) did you tried to divert the topic by asking questions like "would you choose secular first or religion?" what if I say secular first. Is the bjp govt keeping the spirit of secularism? If you wanted to be bias do not ask such students for a befitting answer.
What if Nagaland declares durga puja week as a beef eating week. Will you still ask the same question?

Religion and Secularism. Yes Christianity in Nagaland is a way of living. Ok I know there are some people who keeps on pointing out how the British came and did this horrible thing to us, but I don't blame you; you're just not informed. Ok so we practiced Paganism before Christianity. It still exists in some parts of Nagaland. So, they didn't eradicate it or force us to accept it. They came to learn the way we lived, while imparting their share of knowledge. It's natural to adapt to things that benefit us. No? Religion was part and parcel of that social networking. It did help us, education, sanitation, sensitisation, moral values. Our religion gradually transformed. Even now you'll notice that Christianity in Nagaland is quite different from others. Paganism still exists in our festivals. So it has transitioned. Celebrating harvest like Ahuna, Moatsu, Tokhu emong, etc. So by now you must have an idea, how integrally connected culture and religion are in Nagaland. A way of living. So if a channel like NDTV asks us to choose b/w a way of living and secularism. It's our way of living. Why? Because if there is no way of living ( in diversely populated India) what does such a term like secularism mean. This doesn't mean we don't respect other religions or communities. We do respect it. We do coexist. We have a whole colony called Marwaripati. About BJP and Hinduism, there is no need to emphasise on it. Come on let's not be ignorant. No I'm not talking about yoga and Baba Ramdev or free medical camps with deities' posters ( we understand such practices). Other then that, there are controversial topics that I prefer to refrain from. That being said, I wish this interview was more than just an icing on a lot more bigger cake.

    • @roliyth9532
      @roliyth9532 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ajay prasad Yes, thank you for your queries. Kindly listen to understand and not to reply. So, religion limited to the confines of our room. Really ? Wait you did agree religion plays a role in a country like India. Right? So the role that it plays does effect the policies. I mean those governing us and the lawmakers are in fact very mindful of this. One of the reasons why policies and bills take a lot of time to be implemented and passed. It's a huge task in a diverse country like India. Human dynamics and religion . I'm sorry but I've to agree to disagree. There must be a reason why as an individual you don't see the interrelation b/w the two. However, religion does play an important role in human dynamics. Human dynamics is categorised among objective, relational and operational systems. Basically mental, emotional and operational. So, the question is how can Ones faith not effect the human dynamics. To have faith means to be mentally, emotionally invested in that believe. So the first two systems of human dynamics is integral with having faith/ following a religion. Operational dynamics whereas varies from individual to individual. Though this aspect of human dynamics do correlate with religion. People of different religions strife to set a positive example of their own religion through action. So religion and human dynamics does effect each other. Coming together believing and worshipping in a faith isn't communalism, it's a way of living. "People like me" didn't object that practice. Although coming together in the name of faith and doing something altogether is a concern. BJP is the ruling party in our country now. BJP existed when congress was the ruling party. Not just a case of majority. So BJP as Bharatiya Janata Party is not an issue. However individuals that run it causes issues. Why these students generalised ? BJP is one of the political party in India that has ideological and organisational links to Hindu nationalists. There isn't any issue in it. Though people do misuse it, by going extreme. Also it's the Hindus and other religions of India that contribute in maintaining secularism and democracy. Pakistan is stated as an Islamic state, different from India. If India had a Muslim majority, you would be concerned and not "readily" turned into theocracy. You cannot make assumptions like this. Also kindly pay a visit to Nagaland, see how we live. We don't demolish temples or mosques, no preacher of other faith is haunted down and chased stripped in the streets, no missionaries are burnt to death, we respect the faith of other religions, but we like to keep our faith. Yes, India is a country for all its citizens. So yes, I'm sitting here in our India and taking the effort of typing this because I'm an Indian and that along with other issues needs to be understood.

There my reason for changing religion in nagaland no one change easily their religion nd apart India is best place to all type of different religion as compared to other country nd problem is not with but some leader nd some guru of religion which mislead people nd in real India is peaceful country with accepting all religion nd people too
Yeah it is some where past govt have totally ignore the north east people
Nd sometime u northeast people trouble calling by different name due to slight different but sometimes it not intentional they are not familiar nd connected so it take time sometimes to accept people with we are not familiar
Nd I like north east bcuz u r heart totally Indian
      Ur English is pretty good
      Ur hard working
Ur very talented as I watch this video just u need opportunities
I sometimes thought that if past govt given amount in Kashmir as amount given to north east state situation will be more better but in Kashmir situation somewhere still need improvement nd development
It just opinion nd my observation

We are living in a democratic country in fact India is the world's largest democracy. Therefore no religion should be given priority. Of Course Hinduism is the major religion in India it doesn't mean it should be given priority. And how dare you to say go to America. As if you have owned India. India is also our country not just yours. Don't treat us as foreigners. We have every right to raise our voice in our own country and who are you to tell us to go away.

The message is crystal clear from young people of Nagaland. They cherish their own religion. They have accepted Christianity with a goodwill. They are happy with it.
BJP should not play religion card of hindutva in Nagaland. However, i totaly disagree with the student who said Religion over Secular India. Thats where the problem arises.
Nagaland people have their own life style and culture. They are not Hindus. But they accept that they are Indians. So people from other parts of India should not stereotype them as poor tribal people. I bet you, they are more civilized and cultural then most other parts of India. They are good people.

We Muslim form almost 15 to 20 percent of the population, we have been living here for almost 900 years, still we as a minority are being denied our due dignity, our mosque are being demolished, innocent are being maimed, we are suffering, it's excruciating.
