Sometimes I get carried away in trying to do all these upgrades to my bike but what it really comes down to is having fun while riding and getting out and finding enjoyment in life. Glad to hear you are enjoying the new bike 🤙
It’s great that you are so excited and impressed with your new bike. It’s awesome that you are pushing heavier aggressive tires and still feeling fast on the climbs. Interesting about the stem/fork offset but make sense. It’s good that you tried out that SCOR.
Just picked up a 22 on crazy sale. Did the same and put on a Lyric. Looking forward to test it out. I have to climb to earn all of my down around where I live.
I have a Ripley AF that weighs in at 28.8 lbs on Dissector/Rekon 2.4's, Pike Ultimate debonair B1 with pedals. The bike rides so good with these tires on, cornering is amazing but when I put the same wheels and tires on my Stumpy, man... I feel like I need the Assegai up front! I'm happy that the RAF doesn't need big tires to corner so well because I'm also a weight weenie and getting this 7.7 lbs frame to 28 lbs with pedals was probably the hardest (and expensive) build I've done on an aluminum frame. Went with AL frame from a change after being on Carbon for 11 years. My speed on singletracks are also around 26-29 mph and fire road is almost always 32-41 mph. I know what you mean about stable at speed and the RAF is surprisingly stable but I think that's from the heavy frame and Pike Ultimate with Debonair B1. I enjoy your videos Dustin, thanks for sharing!
That’s a killer weight for an alloy bike! I’ve actually really wanted to test ride the Ripley AF. Seems like the ultimate bike if you ballin’ on a budget
Oh man……been waiting for this update from you, and after having watched it, I really can’t wait for my frame to arrive mid week. I’m gonna be running it straight in LT mode though….so as not to have it ‘overlap’ with my Druid in terms of the travel. I have the Lyrik at 160 on my Druid. Though I don’t ‘hate’ it, I’m not exactly loving the midstroke support much. Or maybe I’ve not set it right. Anyway…thanks for your 200mile update. And also that little insert on the offset and stem length relationship. Something new. Definitely gonna give that a try, considering I’ve collected quite a number of stems in the storage! Haha. Keep those vids coming, Dustin. Cheers….
Thanks homie!! I’m really intrigued to try this bike in LT mode. And will definitely do a video on that. Rode it at Tamarack resort today and was amazing… but did leave me wondering what this bike would be like with a 160 coil and 170 fork 🤔
Dustin if you havnt, read into 'effective stem length'. Depending on the sweep of your bar, and where the sweep actually starts on the bar, bar length and bar roll all play a huge part in where your hands sit in relation to the contact patch. Bar roll could easily account for + or - 5mm effective stem length within an acceptable comfortable amount of upsweep. Personally I don’t buy into the stem length to fork offset idea, you could match a fork offset with a stem easily enough, but a 7 degree back sweep bar or a 9 degree are going to change hugely where your hands (weight and contact pressure) are in relation to the tyre. Same goes for bar length etc. But on paper you feel good because you matched them, despite similar common bars potentially changing your 'effective stem length' perhaps 30mm.
Got a Dissector maxterra exo and DHF maxgrip exo on the new bike. Just waiting for snow to melt but so far it feels fast!! I wasn't a huge fan of the assegai in max terra we will see how it compares to DHF max grip.
@DUSTIN B. JOHNSON so far I'm feeling like the DHF Maxx gripp is more predictable overall. I don't love the cornering knobs on the assegai they seem to flex too much unless you are in pure loamy stuff but at that point the assegai just cakes up with dirt\mud. I wouldn't mind trying the shorty for wet and deep loam conditions and then keep the DHF for everything else.
@@323johnnybravo Check Pinkbike ! They basically rode these two bikes back to back a few months ago ;) I think they said : Hugene best all rounder, sporty feeling. 4060 ST : Best for goofing around, great mix of sporty yet comfy
Hey Dustin what are your thoughts on this bike vs the Hightower V3? I've spent extensive time on the hightower, but haven't had the chance to ride the 4060 ST. How do you feel the Scor compares climbing, and descending? Which bike feels more capable, and which bike feels more playful and better all around?
SCOR is a far better all around bike. Better pedaling platform. It’s carry’s it’s weight much better and feels lighter on trail. More playful. Hightower is more stable and feels deeper and soaks the big hits a bit better… until I put the coil on the SCOR then it’s about the same. I didn’t really like the new Hightower personally. The 4060 is so rad!
Have you had the chance to flip the headset cups on the 4060 ST to the slack position? I wonder if that would make the bike more capable than the Hightower
Habe you been on a pivot switchblade? I wonder how it compares to this? I found the switchblade super nimble and efficiency pedaling. Also i found it super poppy like it wanted to leap into the air? Are you getting thay from this?
Do/have you ever had rocks get stuck in the linkage of this bike or previous Evil bikes? I had a Following v3 but had 3 different occasions of rocks getting stuck in the linkage (Just behind BB between space in Front and Rear triangle) and chipping the carbon and paint.
What's your experience on mud and debris getting stuck in the bottom linkage (near the bottom bracket)? Pinkbike liked everything about the bike except that part - they called it "the cradle of filth"
I forgot to touch on that. But I have had zero issues! We don’t have mud here and it’s super dry. Bike comes with moto foam down there but I pulled it out. But it’s been no worse then any other low slung shock bike I’ve owned. I’ll definitely touch on that in future videos
Im wondering, Was your Following equipped with a 51mm offset fork and your current fork might be 44 or 42mm making things feel a little more “slow motion”?
Correct. I tried the following with a 42mm offset and it shortens the wheelbase and made the bike even more twitchy and scary at high speed. I think reduced offset is for bikes with longer wheelbase and slacker head tube angles , the shorter offset will help keep them a bit more nimble
Love the content as always. Was wondering about sizing compared to the following. If it feels a little longer, shorter, or about the same? I am 5’11” and on a medium following and wondering if I should have made the bump up. Bye Neil. See you back again in the next 1-2 garage talks, hahah
Might switch to the lyrik as the 36 is just overpriced imho, do you think it’s worth going to the new one or get the classic red like yours? Heard mixed reviews about the new one
That's an amazing bike and the red Lyrik looks 👌 I found with the Pike that 1 volume spacer and less rebound really stopped it stacking up, seemed to sit pretty low in its travel before then. Slightly off topic, but are you going to try the new tread pattern Forekasters?
The biggest pain in the a$% switching the bike from a ST to LT is having to pull and re-press the headset cups. Unless you just want to keep the bike on the steep setting. Thankfully my bike started life as a LT so I just kept the headset in the slack setting.
hey dustin! ive watched all you tire video and im was in the same boat as you on maxxis compounds.. but last week ive been running the Xynotal Soft and Kryptotal Fron soft on my sb150 and i think it will give maxxis a run for its money! try it out!

I’m still on “Team 2 Bikes” but this 4060 is pretty damn cool.
If I wasn’t such an idiot wasting all my money buying and selling bikes, I’d have 2 bikes by now 🤣🤦♂️
