    The ending of the show has a beautiful portrayal of existentialism.

    This is the best analysis of Atlanta I’ve seen. It’s true that this show is a masterpiece based on its exploration of capitalist system and its impact on 4 black people creating different arguments and perspectives of how one must live in the world of capitalism or battle to create an identity outside of it. The characters names are ‘priceless’..(pardon the pun) ‘paper boi’ and ‘earn’…I even think it’s interesting to explore white earn who committed suicide when he no longer had capital. I’ve seen others explore other themes like the Afro-surrealism which is definitely a vehicle used to communicate how surreal it can feel to navigate this capitalist world black people did not created by those privileged with delusion. But Afro surrealism is only the style they chose to express this system of capitalism we ALL must endure, overcome, and battle to find our TRUE SELVES AND VALUE. Again great job on this video script and analysis. I wonder your thoughts on ‘DAVE’.

      thank you so much for this beautiful comment. the most rewarding part of making these videos is getting to engage with thought provoking comments like this one.
      i think you're absolutely right when discussing the use of afro-surrealism in the show. it truly allows Glover & co to illustrate the absurd nature of the capitalist world we live in, especially for peoples who were not given power in shaping this world's political-economic identity. as you said, this affects us all and it truly feels surreal for all, even though the how can vary.
      i love the pun!!!
      i have not watched Dave yet but i have heard great things and do hope to look into it!

    Just now finding out that disney is the conglomerate behind the show… makes me revisit some scenes through a different lens. Thanks for including the scene of Lorraine criticizing the goofy hat from new jazz. Feels kinda meta, like Glover using paperboi to express his disappointment in himself for watering down his art/identity through pressured product placement, but with enough control to incorporate it as a theme. I can only imagine how the goof who sat by the door may explore/poke fun at that dynamic on a symbolic level.
    Great job on this analysis by the way, really helps me to appreciate the show on a deeper level. You a real 1 for this 1, well done 👏

      And thank you for focusing on the disney element of it, because i didn't even actively think of it! One thing I really appreciate about this channel is the way it opens discussion with others and adds layers I didn't see myself. So, you pointing this out makes me look at it with yet another lense! Especially as FX wasn't Disney owned during the first two seasons of Atlanta, and the last 2 are when we really see a stronger acknowledgement of Disney.

    I love to see people talking about Atlanta. I can tell you put a lot of work into this and I appreciated hearing your thoughts.
    12:50 I always felt like he has no control over who he is…because he has no control over his *image*.
    Personally, I think Atlanta is all about perception, narrative, and the social dynamics of that perception/narrative, moreso than about capitalism.
    And the stories we tell about money (and work) are definitely a piece of that.
    I think you highlight some great examples of how capitalism relates to the overall themes. Especially in season 1 and season 2.
    But I disagree with capitalism being the overarching theme of the show. This show has a lot of interpretations though, and I can’t wait to see more ppl talk about it over the years.
    Great video man. Gave me something to think about.

    • @FilmsProphet
      @FilmsProphet  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the support! and I love comments that engage like this, they allow me to reflect more on the media (and hopefully others too)!
      I hope I didnt insinuate capitalism was the overarching theme of the show, as that was not my intention with this video. I think the series touches on a multitude of different subjects, some intentionally and perhaps less intentionally with others. The goal of my video was less to say Atlanta is about [THIS] and more to explore how it touches on that particular relationship, as I think the show's nature allows for an interesting look at existentialism under capitalism, which I think is a repeated theme though definitely not the main one.
      I think you are right in saying that perception and narrative are VERY present as themes of the series, more actively present than capitalism, though I don't personally have an answer to what the show is specifically about. Thank you for giving me that to think about.
      It is a very rich show that explores a lot more than what I can include in one video, probably more than what I can include 20 videos. Even when it comes to Al & Earn's existentialist journeys, I think capitalism is only one part of a puzzle with several other pieces, and that's without even looking at Darius and Van who have equally complex journeys of their own.
      I would like to eventually return to this series and look at a different facet of it with a new video, though idk how likely that is, as this one got blocked by Disney 5+ times before going up, and they have already permanently taken down another video I did about the series unfortunately.

    • @pdpUU
      @pdpUU ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FilmsProphet yo what a thoughtful response!!
      Very true, and you got more into perception towards the end talking about Earn. For me, episodes that really speak to that theme include the Van episode in season 2, the D’Angelo episode, and the Lake Lanier episode.
      But yea a lot of what you were talking about with Al, I hadn’t looked at through that frame before! I wanna go back and watch season 1 again now. I hope you do more videos in the future on it….
      …But maybe not bc damn that’s intense with the copyright claims!! What a shame, because there’s so much to talk about in this show.
      Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

      @@pdpUU your comment was super engaging and deserved a thoughtful response!
      Those are some of my favourite episodes! Though I definitely have to revisit s2 some time soon as it is the one that I remember the least. I recently learned the lake Lanier episode is based off multiple different true stories and that absolutely blows me away. What a fantastic episode and what a fantastic series.
      Hopefully, as we get further from when it released, the disney will become less strict about the show.

    I actually really relate to Earn. As a black man, as someone with similar trauma, as someone who had to leave a job because of discrimination while they did nothing about it, I often do things to control. It's a hard trap to get out of

    • @FilmsProphet
      @FilmsProphet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the series does a great job at making us understand that Earn's way of living is harmful to his true self while also making us relate to his desire to live this way. Going through experiences of abuse and discrimination like that, it's normal that someone would want to have more power over preventing this.
      Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry you went through this but I'm glad you recognize what's best for you.

    I haven't watched all of this video so probs ignore me, but i think the show is more about the often surreal experience that is being of african and carribbean diaspora, within western civilisation - rather than capitalism

    • @FilmsProphet
      @FilmsProphet  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, no worries, all comments are valid & I don't think you're wrong at all. Especially considering the series's use of surrealism to explore its themes. I think there are a lot of things the series is about more so than it is about capitalism. Though, I think that, like any series that touches on poverty, or the idea of what people are willing to do for money, it inevitably becomes about the financial model to some extent. For some shows this can happen unintentionally, though I do think the Atlanta crew knew what they were doing. I dont think the show is about a singular concept, and I dont think the show wants to be mostly about capitalism. In fact, I think their existentialist journeys have many other layers to them as well, I'm just looking at the role the model plays in them. I think there is A LOT to take from the show and this is just approaching one of the elements that I do not think is necessarily at the forefront of people's mind when watching.
      And dont worry, I wouldnt ignore a comment unless it was clearly hateful (in which case youtube would probably block it before I see it) or if I felt it only existed solely to cause some type of arguing.

      unfortunately, this is the mentality many have, and i don't think it's the individual's fault. many are taught to have unquestionable faith in that system. that if it is not benefiting them, it is not because the system is flawed but because they are temporarily embarrassed. it's not easy to work against it even within our selves.
