The Chinese company Fiido presented a new bicycle for less than 2 thousand dollars. At first glance, it may seem like a considerable sum, but everything is known in comparison. For starters, try to find an e-bike under $2k, then try to find one with a carbon frame. The new Fiido offers all this and a belt drive to boot.
Shenzhen-based Fiido was founded in 2017 and served Chinese customers until the lure of international markets led the company to Indiegogo in 2020 to fund the production of a futuristic folding bike called the D11.
In its latest offering, Fiido introduced a bike with the telling name of Air. The frame, fork, handlebar and seat post are made of carbon fiber. This makes it extremely light for an electric bike in this price segment - only 13.75 kilograms. That's only slightly more than the average aluminum bike weighs.
Pedal Assist is powered by the Mivice's 250W rear hub motor, which delivers a fairly low 40Nm of torque and has three or five PAS modes for a top speed of 30km/h. The e-bike features a Gates Carbon CDN belt drive for a quiet, maintenance-free ride - although the lack of gears may be a problem for some riders, especially if the route involves steep climbs.
A fairly modest 208.8Wh frame-mounted non-removable battery provides a range of 80 kilometers on a single charge at the lowest PAS setting. This headroom can be doubled by installing a range extender on the frame's down tube, but this will spoil the elegant, flowing lines of the bike's frame and make it heavier.
Oddly, the e-bike lacks a display on the handlebars, so Fiido expects riders to keep track of key riding metrics with the included Mate smartwatch. The user can unlock the Air using the fingerprint sensor on the top panel, using the smartwatch or using the mobile app.
The wheels are shod with Kenda 700/40c tires, there are also Shimano hydraulic brakes for reliable stopping, and there are frame-integrated front and rear lights.
The Fiido Air Carbon Fiber City E-Bike has won a 2024 Red Dot Design Award and is available to order now for a starting price of $1,799, well below MSRP. It is expected to reach customers from August.
We previously reported that Norwegian start-up Exotek has introduced the Exoquad, a four-wheeled wheelchair for wilderness trips that shows there are no limits to adventure and nature exploration.

Stating specs in all metrics value isn’t helping the USA based customer. Weigh kilos, goes Kms fast, range is kms. What the fuck is that? I don’t want to use some conversations calculators, pause the video and then recalculate more metrics numbers. Why not say both? Limited to only metrics is bad user experience. I like the bike, but the specs and descriptions isn’t keeping me interested. Crowdfunding isn’t a great start. Production on paper and 3D rendering is such a failing endeavor. Who is the recent graduate that green lite this? Name the name. No one wants this style of crowdsourcing funding.

I understand what you are saying, I lived in US twice and had to change words as I worked in automotive industry. The Whole planet works on Metric only 3 countries that don't. One is US the other even I can't remember. It's the easiest system, the US dollar is Metric, so if you can count US currency you can do Metric, everything is in tenths. Apologise if I sound patronising.
