There is nothing wrong with the present structure, it is the people of Nigeria that is making the system not to work. You can have the best system, but the Nigeria people may make it difficult to work.

The United States Government that Nigeria copied their system of government from has a maintained four years term for centuries without any problem and no one has ever suggested elongation of the term. Why do Nigerians like to complicate issues? "Don't fix it if it is not broken" The system does not seem to work because of the people and not the system itself. Atiku and the members of the national assembly proposing the 6-Year term for the president and governors are jumping the gun. I 6think there is an ongoing constitution review going on in the national assembly whose report is expect some time next year? What stopped the members of the national assembly members to present their proposals to the committee working on the constitutional review? Everything in the proposal require constitutional amendments and no just a bill. Conducting elections one day in general elections for all position makes sense because that is the way it is done in the United States. The difference is that elections, whether on the Federal, State and local levels are conducted by the Secretary States while in Nigeria it is INEC with state representation.
