I fretted about changing this belt on my mower, however, after watching this video I was able to remove the old one and install the new one in 15 minutes. Good stuff!
Thank you very much. I've been lucky for the past nine years and never had to change a belt. That luck ended today but the video made it really clear and easy. Even with pressure washing the deck and mower it took well under an hour to actual swap the belt and start mowing again! Thank you a lot!!!😀
I am just learning all about JD mowers. I went from rock to 5 acres of mowing when I moved to a new house. The owner sold me his X384. I had a twig get on the deck and got between the spindle and deck belt and the belt came off. I tried pulling the belt and get it back on track but couldn’t get leverage. I wasn’t going to try and take off the deck and every lawnmower service (including JD was 7 weeks behind). I had a p/t repair guy come out and he took what looked like a cork screw handle with a hook on the end and slipped it get the belt and had it on in 5 sec. I found something really close on Amazon, and are called meat hooks. I ordered them in case this happens again. But they were only $6
Thanks man. This was exactly what I needed to finish the belt change. Had some difficulty locating resources since I had no model number for this old deck.
Great video. For whatever reason, my pully wasn't pulling as easy so I took a rachet strap and used that to pull it towards the other pully. Worked great and little to no effort to get the belt around the other pully.
Thanks for the video..my girlfriends belt came off her X530 only took a couple minutes to figure out how to release the tension..definitely just got brownie points for fixing it so easily lol thanks bud
I had a 42" deck on mine. Different belt routing. The most important thing was to remove the primary belt tensioner ('L" shaped arm) so I could attach my secondary belt tensioner spring to the arm. Thanks.
A bit more info on getting the belt on the Engine Drive Pulley would be helpful. If I had a garage that big and that clean and that neat, I would seldom leave it.
I have a possibly older jd sabre with a 48 deck. I cast find serial or model numbers anywhere. I bought a 122 inch belt and it was way too long. I don't have the old belt. The belt routing is like the one in this video. It's got 3 blades. How long was the belt in this video?
would have been nice to see you show hooking up the front of the deck and showing how you place the rear support arms back in...they can be tricky even though you showed the removal process. Very nice job on the rest of the video.
I can't either. Takes 45 minutes to get 2nd lift arm to line up. Jiggling deck back and forth with a pry bar. Also, 45 minutes to get the J-bolts pulled out and lift arms released.@@scurrytomEdit: 13 years of this problem 2 times a year, just to service deck and sharpen blades.
You did not show removing or replacing the black covers over the two outside pulleys. Are they necessary? I would think they are to prevent things from getting suck in the pulleys.
My x320 doesnt have that deck under it.I has a single belt that runs everything. Very strong spring to tension the belt which is poorly accessed because it is central on top of the deck. Also doesnt have pivoting wheels. The forward idler pulley has failed twice, first time at 150 hours. While the blade hubs have lube fittings the idlers dont. They have sealed bearings which appear to not be of long lasting quality. Rear idler was very noisy due to bearing.Fwd idler was $88 bucks, rear was $27.Belt was about $90 bucks. 48 inch deck 2006 year tractor.
Great video! I can’t seem to get my deck back on. It seems like there’s too much tension on drive belt. I tried release the tension bar, but I still can’t get Mount holes to line up. Any ideas??
Good day, dear. I watched your video on TH-cam, I have the same Dec, only I have a different tractor, I have LX 188. I can't find the part number, if it's not too much trouble, please give me the size and part number of this belt, I'll be grateful. Victor
Why is the belt going to engine a cogged belt if the pulley is V shaped not cogged??? I have an x320 and it has a 5/8 regular V belt. Am I missing something???
Change belts on my 130 mower, after blades hit metal shaft coming from motor and cut into shaft Been having problems since then what did this damage on mower
Oh but you did leave something out. You never showed you reinstalling the lift arm's as they can be a challenge. I guess that's why you didn't show it. LOL P.S. That's a brand new unused deck, wait until it's a year or two old to do those lift arms. Keep them as clean and oiled as you can. Still far better by far than other manufactures decks.
As always a great how to. However, my 380 had a couple of different things happen. I had to remove the clips and drop out the front bracket because there was no way I could pull it up and out of the way on mine. Also the mower to deck came off but like a dummy I should have drawn a diagram because I cannot get that belt back on. I have 4 spindles for that. Even in my owners manual there is No configuration diagram. I am going to have to take my mower in to service because, even though I did get deck belt on the deck will not raise. I must have done something wrong in the reverse install. While in they will have to show me how to install that engine to deck belt. Why is there no help anywhere on this? I assume they will have to pull the deck and may find a place where the deck is binding to stop the raise lever from working. Everything else in the video was quite helpful but since my mower is only 2 years old I am left wondering why no rod to take off the old belt, just a lever......
I have the x390 and can't see why the video I watched told me to take deck belt off, Now I can't find any diagram on how to put it back on. I'm selling it as soon as I get it back on, with 35 hours hours it's gone and I'm going Kubota //

Awesome video! Simple and so clear. My first time changing the belt and your video helped so much! Made me feel like a badass! 😉
HAHA! I love comments like this! I am glad I could help!

My bearing went out, and I have my deck hanging from a tree. LOL

I went to 247Parts as you suggested but they don't list my LX176 mower so I guess parts from your store aren't for me?
Good video, thank you
Thank you and I'm glad you liked it!
Thanks for the video.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the detail view. Could you do one on changing the pullys on the drive belt or provide a link to a previous video?
I will add it do the list. Thanks for watching!
Thanks foe video, & parts site. Appreciated
Do you have a part number? I have this same deck

Ah, I will try to include this in a future video. Thanks for the feedback!
There’s where I’m stuck right now, can’t get holes to line up. Any tricks?

I ended up propping up the deck with a 4x4 to get linkage holes to line up for reattaching . That seemed to get the proper alignment
What size belt was that?

What was the part # or specs for the new belt?
Ive taken my deck off before but this time I CAN NOT get the petal on the left to come back up. any adive. thanks brinley Hocutt
Is this the same for the x380 54in?

This can definitely be the case. The belt systems are all so different depending on the mower.

They can be a real pain. I know sometimes I have to lift and pull on the deck to get everything to line up just right.
@@247parts thanks! I ended up jacking the front up a bit to get things to position correctly., it WAS a real pain. Great video though, thanks!

There are a couple of different setups on the X320, so you may have the opposite one of mine.

I feel like this is something that a technician could walk you through over the phone. I would try that first to possibly avoid a shop bill.

Would the same steps apply to a john deer x500
Yes, they would be very similar.
