The dreaded "Buyer's Remorse"! There are few things worse than buying a used vehicle only to find out you got dooped! A few years back I picked up a 2013 Harley Davidson Road Glide. I was very excited about the new bike until waking up the next morning and getting a closer look in the day light. Stay tuned to see what mistakes I made and how you can avoid making the same!

If I'm buying a used bike I'm assuming it's been dropped at some point. I ride all the time with guys who ride all the time. Gravel, rain, grass, car pulling out and having to stop while in a turn, stopping and gravel makes your foot slide out from under you, something is going to happen and you are going to drop your bike. If you have never dropped a bike you probably are not riding enough. Even the best riders have shit happen, and I'm talking guys who are riding side by side club style who ride great. Something will happen if you put miles on the bike.

I’ve had the sellers remorse with a friend who was pestering me to sale a bike that I wasn’t really looking to sale at time and wanted it for himself. We went back and forth for a bit with him trying to convince me and at the end I agree to sale it to him for a much cheaper price then the book value. But to my surprise the guy really pissed me off when he immediately sold the bike for a lot more money then what I had sold it to him for! Near less to say that was the end of my trust for the guy and the friendship with him after I told him that he took advantage of my kindness!

"Never Look at a Bike at night" - This should be Rule numero uno! I purchased a used honda CB750 (the exact model that the Terminator rode in the first movie) at night and in the morning my excitement ripped out of me at the first glance at all the rust and corrosion damage. I definitely overpaid. It took me several weeks of tearing down the bike and rebuilding/ cleaning it of all rust and damage until I was happy with it. But I can say she was hands down one of my favorite motorcycles I ever owned. I learned a lot from the experience, how to buy a used bike, how to work on Hondas, etc. I sold it for more than I bought it, but still pretty much broke even considering the parts.

I had buyers Remorse after buying my Bolt. I still got a good deal on it. $4,500 for a 2017 with only 1,700 miles on it. It has a small dent of the tank from a driveway drop. And a small scuff on the headlight on the same side as the dent. It's my first bike, so I was crazy excited about it, and bought it without too much negotiating. After the honeymoon I started doing what everyone does. Shopping for mods. I decided I wanted as small cowl/wind deflector. I went to my bike to check the headlight to measure it for fitment when I noticed that the headlight was slightly off center. Something I should have noticed when I first looked it over. the headlight is just off center enough that I need to replace its mounting bracket just to get it straight again to get the small cowl/wind deflector on it. Now I'm spending more money before I can even spend the money I want to. Seriously bummed me out. Don't get me wrong, I still love my bike.....but I should have caught that and either walked or negotiated a much better price to compensate for the needed repair.

That really sucks. If you have to look after dark always take a bright battery powered light to look things over. It's a good idea to use a portable light during the day also, to look at the darker areas of the engine and trans for oil/coolant leaks and rust. When I was young every used car I bought needed major work within 3 or 4 months after I got it. Never unhappy with any used bike purchase tough.

purchased once non-running motorcycle from seller that assured me that its not running because of dirty carbs.... it was a very good deal so I decided to take a chance.... I figured only carb cleaning ... no big deal..... once I was able to start the bike white smoke started coming out of the exhaust... long story short..I ended up tearing the entire engine apart to find cracked piston.... took me several months to rebuild entire engine... I lost money on the bike but the experience first time rebuilding entire engine was priceless.....

I bought a 02 FLSTC in 2019 and I had buyers remorse not because it didn't run good but it had computer crap on it and something just didn't fit me right. I been mounted on Pans and Shovleheads until this 02..I picked up an 01 FLHRCI I liked better but I ended up selling both of them in September 2020 and bought a 98 FLSTF I can work on. it is a one owner bike and is like new with 27k on it. I paid $3.000.00 for it I have it and my 72 FLH and that will do it for me.I am an old dude 67 so I don't need more bikes but my bet is I buy another one in a year or so. I like badket cases I like to wrench as much as I like to ride. I got people hauling bike a 100 miles to have me work on these older bikes since I only charge for parts and what ever they think my work is worth. I am one of the few pan and Flathead garage mechanic around. I don't rebuild motors any more I don't have the tools to do it now no machinery. Harley's love um.

I would like to add- if its a Harley, get the VIN and have the service history run at a Harley dealer. I bought a 2012 Road Glide, identical to your 2013. It was great for a month. Then i ran across some issues. I checked the service history just to find out the bike had been rear-ended. Everything is straight and repaired. But the money i paid was for a bike in good condition, not with accident history. Definitely run the VIN if you can! That being said, this same bike took my fiancée and I to Myrtle Beach from south central KS and back, without a hiccup. So I'm still happy with it

I called the 1 and only owner and got a lot of oh ya meant to tell you. I was up front honest and paid for it. Spent the rest of the summer getting to know the boat intimately. Yeah Jon so...
    "Buyers Remorse"
I have always bought and sold vehicles. Earlier on in life I got a 1969 Camaro SS396. Well, within a week after this purchase I did a tranny service (had a small tree's worth of sawdust in the trans!) Then took it to a mechanic with a lift (frame had been cracked and spot welded!)... kept chewing up right front tires. Had it tuned up... it WAS a factory SS396 and still had a 396 in it... FROM a 1969 GMC TRUCK!!!!! Anyway, I'm 53 now, more savy about such things and uhh, yeah, bad experience. I was 19 at the time, pocket full of cash and only wanted to get it home... as well, it had just been painted Hugger Orange/White SS stripes (fell in love with the paint) was in his dimly lit garage AT NIGHT too.... went back a couple of weeks later to ask him about these thing(s)... FOR RENT sign in front yard, vacant. Vacant... just like my young bank account now was. 😳

Question.. Opinion Buyers Remorse. We bought a motorcycle from a dealership last year for my girlfriend. We looked over the bike 2009 Yamaha Stratoliner 1900cc. We gave it a test drive the maintenance records by the original owner was amazing. My girlfriend is short so we paid to have the rear of the bike lowered before we took posession of the bike. They explained that it We had taken several pictures when we purchased it. Upon taking possession of the bike we drove it home 4 hrs away. (They explained that they needed to use a chain on the rear fender to lower the bike) Wiping the bike down after the first ride we discovered two indents on both sides of the fender. My girlfriend called the dealer who sold us the bike. We sent pictures and he agreed that the service department had damaged the bike and they would repair it. (All text messages) We only needed to decide if we had it repaired now or after the riding season. We agreed to after. We returned the bike last month and last week they asked for all the pictures and text messages. We did and they agreed to fix the fender. A few days later they call and say they cannot or will not fux the damage... what would you do? Or your advice....

@@Paul20661 I had a 2014 Ultra Limited, and now own a 2018 Road Glide Ultra, and I much prefer the Road Glide. The Road Glide has vents in the fairing that can be opened and closed. And it also has 2 nice storage pockets in the fairing. What's the point of a fairing with no storage like the batwings? And for me, the Road Glide delivers smoother air to the rider. I put the tallest shield I could still see over on my Ultra Limited as the head buffeting drove me nuts.

Bought all the parts & replaced it my self otherwise it'll cost me lotta $$$$ if i took it to dealership / any garages.

1 Massive remorse I bought a Slim test rode it, the works. It was a dealer demo and thought yep I like it. Biggest mistake. From day 1 I hated it, it felt top heavy and wobbly at the stop lights. Just not for me. Luckily I found a demo Deluxe in another state 1 year old and did an exchange. Still cost me 1k. But from that point I only eve bought a Deluxe. So in the the end the 1k is forgotten with the pleasures of the Deluxe bikes I've owned. Big pity they are now canned.

My last two bikes were a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic which I loved and it road great but was a dog at low speed with the wife on back and currently a VTX 1800S and it's a dream compared to the Vulcan but I'll be looking for another next year and am thinking of a Harley. Nope, not because it's cooler or I think it will be a better more comfortable cruiser, but because every old big belly guy that doesn't have enough lung power to walk to their mailbox drives those Road Kings like it's nothing. They must be the most controllable cruiser at all speeds, especially slow. That makes me question how someone could damage that bike you bought, unless they were stoned out of their mind?

Physically that bike is okay. I would have removed that front fender and simply fixed that corner area. The underside of saddle box scrape just needed touch up with a painters artist brush. You never mentioned the mileage on the bike, which matters. But you stated it had a trade in value of 13 k, so you being a buyer you actually got this harley for a good good price!

I guess the how much and how fast questions on a bike can come down to location and climate as much as anything else. I have an 05' Harley Night Train in good condition with 16k miles I've been trying to sell for months now. I've even dropped the price 3 times, finally settling at $6,500, and it still won't sell. It may have something to do with the fact that I live in Florida and if it isn't 115 degrees outside in the shade then there's a monsoon happening. And really that's why I'm selling the bike to be honest. In 365 days, there's probably 15 that make for good riding weather. So for me, it's totally not worth the monthly payment for that short thrill. The last 4 bike rallies at my local Harley dealer have either been rained out or canceled due to weather events. I had the chance to visit SoCal a few months back for the first time in my life and I was absolutely amazed at how perfect the weather was and how many motorcyclists were on the road.

You have to bring a friend with you when you buy something like that. You missed an obvious blemish that a friend, may have helped you find. Also you get excited when you purchase something that you like and want. He can be more objective than you can be. But at the end of the day you did not lose money!!

Never look at a bike or a car at night or in the rain / lesson 1. My suggestion, always hand wash a used bike before you buy it. You will see everything. If the seller won’t let you check it that close, buyer beware.
