Haven't watched but a minute of the video and wanted to comment that this isn't an old house...it looks very well kept. Something is mixing with the rain ....to cause concrete to do this. I've owned my current home for 22 years-the concrete was poured in the 1950's. The concrete sidewalks have been a very light gray, almost white until about five years ago. It seemed like overnight they were turning very dark. Now, they look black in places. I see these videos on YT and the concrete looks just like mine. I notice peoples roofs look covered in it as well. What is going on y'all? Had anyone else noticed this change?

I imagine it's soot from all the forest fires last year making its rounds in the airstreams and/or atmosphere, since it can stay up in the air for a very long time without coming down until conditions are right.

The plants in the surroundings have a huge impact on that. If I wouldn´t pressure wash the concrete areas around our house, it would black as well after 3 years latest.

That’s when I will sell and move! Everyone that I have talked to who sold for this reason said that they were so relieved to not be overwhelmed with worry or having to rely on others for their responsibilities. One wise elderly woman even said,”owning a home is a privilege, not a right!” Even when you have grown children with their own homes, they should help with storm damage or when their parents were temporary unable, but even they should not have to maintain two homes on an ongoing basis. It’s called seasons of life, let a younger family have all the joy and work now.😊

I was just driving out in a country road yesterday and I saw what could be a beautiful house but it is so overgrown and in need of a serious cleaning and I thought it was either what you were saying or my first thought was that it was a relative or something that took it over and doesn't take care of it anymore. But you could tell at one time someone took some serious pride in that lawn and house.

I’m a disabled single mom and watching this just makes my heart so happy! You literally cannot know the difference this makes because it’s not only an aesthetic of it, but having lost control of your yard or some other aspect of home maintenance, feels like you have lost control of your whole life (and in fact sometimes it feels that way).
The shame involved with not being able to keep up with all the things even though we’re disabled or elderly; it’s deep and intense.
When you do this in a way, with empathy and kindness and not making it about you and also not shaming the homeowner -it’s like a magic balm for the soul.

One of my neighbors redid his wife garden when her physical health declined Into a easily maintained a Stone and sand garden with very easy maintained plants and bushes together with a Cherry tree so she can still water and do easy things as it was her peace to garden.. a beautiful zen garden that was fitted for what she could do on Good Days. I’m a disabled Mom, too, but still married. Even with us, our standards have slowly eroded, until one day you look at the house and say ‘Who LIVES here!?!’. I make beautiful jewelry, but I can’t clean the house or do the gardening. At all (seriously, I have anaphylactic reactions to dust and pollen…). I wish I lived in a ‘village’ where I could trade services with others. The work required to sell my stuff, then use that income to hire someone is beyond my capacity. There must be a better way.

It’s this that reminds me why we should love in villages. One person LOVES cleaning off concrete, the next loves cutting grass, the next could knit ALL DAY, someone else adores cooking... But when we live separately, we have to do a little bit of everything, including things we either hate or haven’t the capacity or skill to do, we either don’t do it or it makes us unhappy. I think it’s the cause of a lot of stress.

Always wanted to start a volunteer project that would provide yard services for the elderly available year round. So many have house pride but cannot keep it up themselves. Many have high standards for their property and it makes such a huge difference for them. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Love from Oregon.

Wow, that patio job was absolutely stunning, re the transformation from black to an almost white (the outer part looked sandstone when dried). Considering how amazing her windows looked, and the hoise in general, the cement now certainly not only lools stunning, but you've increased the price of her house, too.
Now I'm a recent newbie to you guys, and I've been saying with Kevin, Spencer, etc that we don't have black footpaths & cement in Australia. Now we put (unsealed) sandstone coloured pavers in the backyard, and side of house. Now I know I have some staining under my back verandah, because my back verandah's gutter need replacing. Basically, this house never had enough "downpipes" installed, front or back. I had extra out in front to stop water cascading over the front gutters. But, I've got double roofing out back (ie because of the verandah there), but 1 set of gutters, and 1 downpipe (ie I now have 3 downpipes out front, but only 1 roof), thus my back gutter situation is far worse, and it had continued to cascade, and the gutter's getting worse (has holes). I was going to replace it, but my mum got terminally ill, saved for her funeral, then she died 1.5yrs ago. (She lived in a granny flat in my backyard.)
Anyway, I got out of my car the y'day from a medical appt (I don't go out very much at all re my own health problems). Suddenly, with "fresh eyes" (because of yours, Kevin's & Spencer's channels), I suddenly saw the dark shadow at my front of house, below where it used to cascade at front. Yikes! Admittedly, I now recall thinking the concrete around the house was dark when I bought this house 2 decades ago. And now, I'm seeing stains on the concrete in other places, too. With my own normal hose, I occasionally try to at least get the algae out of the cracks from under my back verandah. I did want to buy a water pressue machine (ie household one) with my back verandah issues, but now I think I need to pay someone to come clean mine... although I really should get my gutter fixed at the back, & add more downpipes, first.
You guys have not only inspired me (despite failed health, musculoskeletal-wise) to push through the pain & do a task here & there, inside & outside, but you've opened my eyes that my concrete has stains in places, besides my 7.5yr old pavers needing algae cleaned off of them. Maybe it's because we had a wet summer (normally it's bone dry in my state in summer), and an usually wet & start to winter (although my state isn't copping the flood after flood after flood that the eastern states of Australia have been getting for about 6 months, now).
I love all sorts of "before & after" jobs (& inspirational true stories). You guys have inspired me. I hurt myself further after my mum died, just cleaning out her granny flat for months. That set me back further - I wasn't expecting that. Plus, the grieving & sadness, too, has got me stuck in a rut. Your videos (ie from each of you, including garden clean-ups), are motivating me to get out of the rut I'm in. I can't do much, but I've just got to do something. There's always new tasks to do, reoccurring tasks, and tasks I've still not quite finished since Mum's death (I ran out of puff), ie sorting through my cupboards to absorb some of her things (ie the things I'm not keeping in her granny flat - I threw away heaps, and gave away heaps). I pay someone to do my lawns, so can't afford someone to do my housework, too. Anyway, you guys are really motivating me. And once I can get moving again a bit (although I'll never be the same), I'll keep going to see how God can use me to help others. Again, I'm limited in many ways (although now that my mum doesn't need me to fix her phone & tablet, my elderly neighbour is always having me work on keeping her phone - & now her husband's phone - fixed & updated). Still, it's channels like yours that help to motivate. I love Kevin's channel when he has positive talks on there. I always feel inspired, encouraged, uplifted & challenged, all at the same time.
You guys are an inspiration & a blessing, to both viewer & recipients of your physical labour.
God bless you guys. I respect you & your family, and the work you do to God's glory, and in His Name.
From me in Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺
