Great job on the breakdown (indexing), product differences at the beginning and being one of the first to actually provide a detailed review of product. Helpful in making a choice. The only detail I would add for future product reviews (and I mean this friendly) is to record/upload in 1080+ resolution. Keep up the great work 👍🏼
I never comment, most reviews suck. This was fantastic. Was hard to really understand all the different types "9000" etc. thanks for explaining. I look forward to buying this.
I appreciate this! Had one of the original versions of these for years (Still have actually but in rough shape) and literally never found anything else that even remotely compares to this style of trimmer that is only made by Phill/norelco. Actually found this new version & your video while attempting to replace my older version- was searching on eBay hoping to find one like I have but in better shape. I had no idea they still made this type of trimmer, clearly it looks much more sleek and modern than the original, which might be why I didn’t recognize it at first, but this truly made my day. It would be a “home run” if they made the newer version with the vacuum built into as I recently found out some of the older models were made with built in vacuums that would collect the hair to avoid making a huge mess. Who knew 🤷
One way to fix the cut throat issue is to try different brand blades I have hair that grows in every direction and some brands work better than others for example some have chrome plated or different types of steel and sharpness you just need to find the one that works with your hair and it’ll give you a nice smooth shave without any cuts unless of course you rush the shave and don’t angle correctly in that case any blade will leave cuts and knicks.
Great review mate, fortunately I'm a 5.0 all round for me so no guard for me. My existing Philips beard trimmer whilst very good and lasts nearly 2 weeks, it does struggle a little where my hair doesnt grow in the same direction, meaning several passes for it to look tidy. Double edge razor for the rest which is an experience thing as much as it is a closeness/cost saving thing, just nice to take some time out and do.
Just got this. At 175 USD this is the most expensive trimmer on the market in my country. The trim is pretty good, but have in mind im comparing it to my 10 year old philips trimmer. However giant drawback is that it doesn't go down to 0, minimum is 0.4, which means it's impossible to make a clean line on my mustache above the lip. You'd kinda hope you wouldn't need a second trimmer when you buy the most expensive one
0 is not possible with a trimmer, you would need a shaver for that. Remember that a trimmer has a cutter on the upper part that is moving sideways, and a lower stationary part that functions as a guard, so you dont cut yourselves. And the guard has a limit to how thin the edge/tip can be, to also make it sturdy enough not to bend. Thats why almost all trimmers dont go lower/thinner than 0.4-0.5. I think that the Philips OneBlade trimmer goes down to about 0.2, it´s basically a hybrid between a trimmer and a shaver.
Nice vid. Really detailed. I just got one of these yesterday, so your upload came at a great time for me. I hate reading instructions - so this helped a lot. Also, the beard looks fire! 🔥
Is it possible to have a close shave (0 mm) with this? For my beard I'd use the 5mm, but for my neck I'd want to completely remove the hairs, and I think the 0.4mm wouldn't be enough for that. I would hate to use another device just for my neck.
Hi! good review of the product. I got a few questions. Is it easy to shave the moustache area (especially the part under your nose) and it doesn't have a small head to give details. Do you think that it's a big disadvantage not to have a detailed trim head? thanks
So it doesn't have a smaller head to get detailing in smaller areas. It defo a massive disadvantage. I use this now more for fading. Great for tidying up beards.
Excellent review with relaxing background music and well spoken. I wish you would have used a higher resolution to record it. It is only 480p. But still, thanks a lot for a great review!
Great video. Just a quick question does anyone know if u can shave in the shower (wet shaving) or do they mean just a wet beard. Thanks for thr help :)
Hi mate, great review. Just wondering when you are clipping your beard, do the hairs go everywhere, or does it collect hair in the shaft with minimal mess? I know Phillips do the "vacuum" specific model, hence the question. thanks!
Solid! Glad you got one. Yeah, being in the shower is defo a good idea. One thing is, the bigger your hair the more the cut hairs go flying. If you regularly maintain a short beard then it won't be an issue as they simply drop into the sink.
Hey. Great question. You can buy standard beard trimmer oils on amazon. Doesn't have to Philips branded one. Also it will last literally forever. The shaver will probably come to its.last days before you run out of the oil.
Great review, you should definitely keep making reviews! I am definitely going to go buy one now. Phillips take note, you should send this guy some products to review. Also, maybe do a review on the Phillips One if you get a chance.
Also wanted to say, I was really surprised to see this was your first time posting a review you did a great job. I was expecting to see a bunch of reviews when I checked your channel. Breaking the video down into sections, and naming them with timestamps was a nice touch. Thanks for the review, it did a much better job than anything else I found, including Norelco's videos in helping me make my decision to buy one.
Oh! One small question (one that I can’t seem to find the answer to), does this unit have a travel lock to prevent it from being turned on in luggage while travelling. I lost the 5000 model (similar to this but smaller) to Airport security when it turned on in my checked/hold luggage. Thanks and keep up the great work 👍🏼
Hey there. Good question. Well, this is the thing. In the Philips preview ad, that's what the guy in the video is doing - he keeps it tight and sharp. However, with me I know that won't work as my facial hair is really thick. Overall I think it's a solid beard trimmer for shaping / grading your face with different sizes. Maintaining sharp lines...well it depends on your facial hair thickness. Hope that helps.
@@anonymousreaper2186 Hi. I would recommend the Braun BT5260, it has an extra blade for sharp lines and is compact. I used the BT9000 for a week, but returned it. It is difficult to use it for sharp lines because of the size itself and plus does not have a bigger comb for long beard.
Thanks for really cool review! I really wonder how it looks when it is adjusted to 0.40 mm as I am looking for something for 1-2 days look like after clean shave... by the way, indeed it suprisingly does great with 0.50 mm setting..
That's awesome, I'm glad my review helped! Yes so basically, this would be ideal for creating a post 1-2 day shave look. Grades such as 0.4/0.6 would be ideal for this. It's quite awesome.
@@JUNGLY108 Hi there! I just wonder if I can have better outcome compared to Philips 7000 series qg3381 as I am using smaller head which is for trimming the eye brow/side burns actually (to get thinner cut). To sum it up, I need the thinnest trimmer. Thanks a lot again fam!
So this is something I mentioned in the video. This shaver doesn't have a smaller head. It's something they could have improved upon. The 7000 does have smaller head so it's best to stick to that. However, in terms of power the 9000 is much stronger and will give a nicer finish. It's just hard to get in the smaller areas.
Cheers for this review mate. I actually own one as well but this popped up in my suggested feed, would have been handy before I bought it! Its a banging device, I went from using a $30 AUD trimmer to this one. Haven't looked back. I have a full stubble beard I trim at 3.5 but because the blade is so big I use 2.0 for my moustache and under the nose. Trims so much cleanly than the cheapies! BTW I paid $250 aussie dollars for mine, how much is it in the UK?
Hey Mate! Glad that it gives you a superior shave. I know exactly what you mean. well I paid £120 for it...but just checked on amazon and it's now £79.99! lol crazy price drop.
Contemplating buying out here in Aus. When you say blade is so big, can you get an even moustache trim? Find my current Philips won’t fit under my nose to get the top of my moustache, the edge of the guard is too wide (like a lawn mover not being able to cut all the way to the edge ip against a wall).
@@chrishurley5711 yeah the same thing happens with mine as yours is currently doing to you man. I've just been using a comb and the lowest setting to trim it. I did have a little ALDI trimmer that fit underneath of my nose perfectly but the bloody thing died :( lol But don't let that discourage you from getting one. Its a really solid unit, probably the best trimmer I've used so far!
Yo man. You should consider shaving into the direction that your hair grows. Not bottom to top! Imo your sides came out way or short because you started shaving from the bottom! Rookie mistake 😁
Hey man. What do you mean? I went bottom to top because that's me shaving into the directions of the hairs? It was too short because the grade was way to low. I now shave at like 2.5-3.5. If a shave top to bottom -it doesn't catch any hairs.
i would think had you used a trimmer only a 3rd of the cost of this..your stubble beard would have looked exactly the same ..after all it just cuts and does nothing else ..i think its a marketing gimmick ..
No unfortunately. I used something called a camera. Potatoes are known as tubers. You use them as ingredients to make meals. However you can try moutning a potatoe on a tripod and see if it records. Let me know how you get along.
@@JUNGLY108 thank you for your kind reply. I was really worried that you mistakenly used a potato filming this. But now I feel better and relieved knowing that you in fact used a camera.
Great review and cool trimmer! But my old Philips QT7040 like me better. Vacuum cleaner. No need change any adaptors. And bright digital indicator of beard length. Use them from 2011.
Really? Yeah, I did feel that if you press harder and shave at particular angles it does shave more. If that's the case with you, go for a higher grade then try.
