Lemmy is an absolute legend. He lived a simple life for a rock star. Had a tiny two room apartment on the sunset strip near the Rainbow Bar and Grill which was his local hang. There are endless Lemmy stories from musicians and fans, and all of the point to him being a great guy. Simple, humble rock and roll legend.

Could not agree more. In 79 80s would bump into him frequently at various (mostly punk) gigs. 999, madness, feelgood, specials, sham 69. Et al. Really cool decent friendly man. Great fun.

After he died, the Rainbow created the Lemmy - an ounce and a half of Jack Daniel's, a splash of lime, over ice and topped with Coke. If I remember the recipe right. I also think that it was shaken.

Lemmy was a great lyricist. He's underestimated or pigeon holed because of how he looked. He liked to surprise people w/ big discussions of history. He's kind of a Forest Gump like figure in rock and roll. Saw the Beatles play the Cavern Club. Roady for Hendrix. Sang lead on Hawkwind's only hit Silver Machine (legendary British psychedelic band). Found Chrissie Hynde her guitarist for the Pretenders. Tried to teach Sid Vicious bass for Sex Pistols. Loaned Joan Jett (or the Runaways?) equipment and bullet belt for her England debut. And of course is the Godfather of speed and thrash metal bands, via Motorhead for 40ish years. Really a legendary guy.

"We are Motorhead! And we play rock n' roll!" - Lemmy Kilmister (vocals & bass) would introduce Motorhead in concert.
If it wasn't obvious on 'Ace of Spades' ... Lemmy had an appetite for gambling and slot machines. He burned quite a bit of money gambling in his lifetime. He passed away in 2015 (R.I.P.) His band Motorhead was formed in 1975 and their brand of fast and furious heavy rock n' roll was the bridge between punk rock and heavy metal. They were a huge influence on every rock/ metal band in the 80's, 90's and beyond... from Metallica and Guns N' Roses... to Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails... even though Motorhead were not as commercially successful.
Some of Motorhead's other songs - 'Overkill' ... 'Killed by death' ... 'Dancing on your grave' ... 'Bomber' ... 'Deaf forever'... 'Eat the rich'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Ian Kilmister was born in England and was into rock n' roll (including the lifestyle of booze, drugs and women)... He loved 50's American rock n' roll and eventually saw The Beatles in their early days playing the Cavern Club in Liverpool... He joined the UK beat combo band The Rockin' Vickers in the 60's on rhythm guitar and earned the name 'Lemmy' because he was always asking for money ("Lemme a five... Lemme a ten...") Lemmy became a roadie for Jimi Hendrix in 1967 when he moved to London.
In 1971, Lemmy was asked to fill-in on bass for the UK band Hawkwind (He had never played bass before!) But Lemmy realized he was good at bass and started writing his own songs... He played bass w/ distortion so that it sounded like a rhythm guitar... One of his songs 'Silver machine'... became a Hawkwind hit single. However, Lemmy was fired by Hawkwind in 1975.
In 1975, Lemmy formed his band Motorhead upon returning to England, named after a Hawkwind song he had written - 'Motorhead'... Larry Wallis (guitar) and Lucas Fox (drums) were the original trio but critics, press and fans thought they were terrible... They recorded a debut album in 1976 and Hawkwind's record label refused to release it. Motorhead was dubbed "The best worst band"... Lemmy boasted, "If Motorhead moved in next door to you, your lawn would die." 🤣
It was the addition of 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (guitar) and Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor (drums) that finally made Motorhead blossom by 1978 as a rock trio - their classic line-up ... Their 2nd and 3rd albums 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' were released in 1979 and Motorhead rarely stopped touring ... 'Ace of Spades' was their 4th album released in 1980 and it charted at #4 in the UK... Their 1981 live album "No sleep til Hammersmith" shocked everyone by charting at #1 on the UK. However, as Motorhead toured N. America in 1982 for the 5th studio album 'Iron fist'... the volatile clashes between the 3 members finally resulted in guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke being ousted from Motorhead.
However, fans did not like his replacement - former Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian 'Robbo' Roberston, who recorded their 1983 album 'Another perfect day'... Both Robbo and Filthy left Motorhead by 1984.
Lemmy relaunched Motorhead in 1985 for their 10th anniversary w/ 2 new guitarists joining - Phillip 'Zoom' Campbell and Mick 'Wurzel' Burston... and Pete Gill (drums) ... 'Orgasmatron' was released in 1986 before Pete Gill was fired and drummer Philthy rejoined Motorhead in 1987 for the album "Rock n' Roll"... However, due to financial issues brought by years of mismanagement, Motorhead was forced to relocate out of England... Lemmy settled in Los Angeles and lived in an apartment on Sunset Strip from 1990 until he passed away.
In 1991, Motorhead were nominated for a Grammy for the album '1916'... (They would win a Grammy for their cover of Metallica's "Whiplash") but drummer Philthy was fired in '91 and replaced by the Swedish Mikkey Dee (drums) as they recorded the 1992 album 'March or die'...
Motorhead became a trio again in 1995 (Lemmy, Philip Campbell & Mikkey Dee) after guitarist Wurzel left the band and was not replaced after the albums 'Bastards' (1993) and 'Sacrifice' (1995)... Motorhead stayed that way until Lemmy's death in 2015.
Motorhead released a string of albums before their 17th studio album 'Inferno' in 2004 became an unexpected best-seller... Motorhead experienced a worldwide peak in popularity in their last decade (2005 to 2015) selling out tours and their albums charting worldwide.
Motorhead frontman Lemmy was the subject of a 2010 documentary movie 'Lemmy' that captured the life and times of Lemmy Kilmister.
Sadly, former guitarist Mick 'Wurzel' Burston passed away in 2011... former drummer Philthy passed away in 2015 ...and Lemmy Kilmister soon followed in late 2015 from cancer (R.I.P.) ... Lemmy's death was the end of Motorhead.
Former guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke passed away in 2018... Clarke once said, "I'd rather have 'Ace of Spades' than a million quid in the bank... cos 'Ace of Spades' will be around long after I'm gone..."

This is the classic line up of Motorhead. Sadly all three are no longer with us. Drummer, Phil passed away in 2015 and Lemmy a few months later. Guitarist, Eddie, passed away a little over two years after Lemmy.
Considering how hard they partied, it's amazing they lasted that long.
They will forever be legends, all three.

Yeah. Wild Bill Hickock was killed while sitting at a card table, I believe shot in the back of the head, and the hand he had been dealt was ace of spades, ace of clubs, 8 of spades, 8 of clubs(black aces and black 8s) so that hand became infamously known as the dead man's hand and in a lot of like western pictures and stuff getting that hand is viewed as an omen of death.

I saw Motorhead at Sonisphere in 2011, five years before he passed. An old man stationary in front of the high-mounted microphone. Absolutely fucking slayed, a field of metalheads lost their collective shite. My friends and I toasted his passing knowing we would never contribute a fraction of what Lemmy has to an entire subculture.

  • @Roddrummer
    @Roddrummer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

They were the prototype thrash metal band, even though Lemmy never considered them a metal band. Ultimately, they're probably the loudest, heaviest, thrashiest rock n roll band ever. But Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax etc drew massive inspiration from them. If you get a chance, check out their live album 'No Sleep til Hammersmith', still one of the most blistering live albums ever released. Oh, and check out 'The Young Ones' too....

Killer!!! I saw Motorhead live twice, talk about a steamroller of a band! First time they opened for Ozzy Osbourne with the Blizzard of Oz with Randy Rhodes on scorching lead guitar. Motorhead still had the 3 original members and got a generous opening set of over an hour, they were as advertised and Lemmy was beyond crazy on that bass guitar. Second time saw them in a large bar in West Hart for CT, we were right against the stage, when Lemmy turned on his amps we knew we were in for it! Bang out set with Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) now on blistering guitar. My ears rang for a couple days after and I know I had a little hearing loss as well BUT Damn, it was worth it. Point blank to Lemmy Kilmister in Rock Rebel Mode was a sight to behold, he loved bantering with the fans. Killer Band, try One Track Mind for more. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥

I used to assume that he had the mic stand so high so that it made him hold his head up and sing better. Then I saw an interview where he said it was actually due to stage fright, so that he didn't have to look at the audience! 🤣

Yes, the "Deadman's Hand" was aces & eight's. It was the hand Wild Bill was holding when he was shot dead in Deadwood South Dakota. It was also reverenced in movies like Stagecoach and Winchester 73. This spring I had a Woodpecker problem. It was pecking on my wall trying to make a home. He'd go away if I made noise. When I'd leave I'd crank up Ace Of Spades. Kept the Woodpecker away. Thanks for the reaction and rock on.

I can bet 100 colombiam peso that Rayactions will not ever return to this band on this channel again, it's such a fucкing shame. RIP Lemmy, this what's he said about this song: "If I went to a Little Richard concert, I would expect to hear Long Tall Sally. But we didn't stop after that record [Ace Of Spades], you know, since then we've had quite a lot of good releases. But the fans want to hear it, so we still play it every night. As for me: «Hey dude, come on, Ace of Spades» - is the most common phrase that kills me!" ©

This is one of those songs that can help you relax and get your bloodpressure to an acceptable level after a lot of stress at work,
when you get home put on this song on repeat and play it at WW3 level for at least 20 minutes while you are laying down on a couch
or whatever, this only works with a real soundsystem everything in the house must be vibrating so much that the neighbours know

Before Lemmy was replaced in Hawkwind due to getting busted at a boarder on tour this song is very much a different take of Kings of Speed (structure wise) from them just faster and Louder. Frist show I ever seen them at was the last I didn't bring ear protection to ears rang for 3 days after it R.I.P. Lemmy!
Also where the bands name came from Motorhead was a Hawkwind song.

I said during a long time that "Another Perfect Day" in the worst of the times and in the best of the times was the title track of my life"

I love mashups, and this guy named Bill McClintock relies quite often on Motorhead songs. One of my favorites is him mashing up this song, "Ace of Spades" and the Isley Brothers "Shout". These sound like songs that wouldn't mix - but he does it.
I don't see many people reacting to his mashups, but would be fun to see someone start doing this - only because he uses such weird combinations (Men at Work & Metallica, Spice Girls & Slipknot, The Trammps & Rob Zombie).

A lot of those mashups he goes feature soul and metal; the two genres complement each other very nicely. There's a great one of Sabbath's Children of the Grave and Hot Stuff by Donna Summer.

Also you can watch the song Overkill froom Motörhead wich is also super cool . And of yourse all other songs. Motörhead is one of those bands I can listen in each situation of my live and never get bored.

Lemmy once had a talk with his then 17-year old son about drugs. "Son, promise me that when you grow up, don't do coke. Please, just don't do coke. Just do speed, it's much better for you."
