    Thank for the clear, straight to the point video. While this looks like it's more than I think I could do without screwing up it is understandable even to a 6th grader.

    I like this video but I'm way too nervous about screwing this up. So thank you so much for letting us know about where to cheaply buy a charging port so that I would save money if I paid somebody to repair this problem.

    I've broken my charging port for the most part from... erm well I guess the best term is misuse.
    I used to sleep in a bunkbed with my sister and I was on the top bunk, so I'd plug the cord in at the bottom outlet near her bed and feed it up through a small hole in the rail to my laptop.
    My Mattress not being a flat surface often caused it to pop out and wore the port out much faster than it would have originally. (I think the fact that I accidentally dropped my laptop from that height twice didn't help.)
    I'm afraid to take this thing apart for the fear of not being able to put it back together xD
    But I appreciate the video because maybe I can get someone else to help me with it.
    The port still partially works but it's in very bad condition, but at least now I know I won't have to entirely replace my laptop because of this. Thanks ^^
    (Sorry for long paragraph lol.)

    great video and lots of useful things and always learning with electronics , but i have a tricky laptop problem if you can help?
    Wont turn on and no lights, screen ect- totally dead- PS is good. Switch is good and 3v is there shorting to zero when pressed.
    **** When plugged in, the blue light at the power socket flashes blue for a sec . (normally always on when plugged in)
    PS socket resistance is only 8000 ohms?? and same unplugged where it connects to M/B so not socket wiring fault.
    Pulled it all apart and 19v is there through the input mosfets and sense resistor. cant find 19V elsewhere on main power rail .
    So power mosfets are turned on by super IO? partially on but fault detected somewhere?
    3V isnt at bios chip next to super IO if it is the bios chip? no volts on any leg. No 8 should be 3V always i think
    pulled all parts off board to see if they are causing short or drag down
    Tried my PS direct to board socket pins and NO amps are being drawn and with switch pushed in too. Fan dosent twitch. CPU ect are cold as no amps drawn
    Tried resistance to ground of many parts and cant find any shorts
    So slightly ON but not fully. Super IO fault? Also screen disconnected in case that was faulty and 19V is at connector to screen
    Any one can help , that be appreciated as out of ideas. 8000 ohms here must mean something as should be hundred k or more and i hear HP's can be down to 20K? obviously something is wrong, first board i have repaired where socket light isnt staying on although board has partial 19V on it. Learning board repair so always learning and this one has stumped me so far, but might be easy with 8000 ohms symptom?
    thanks

      Older HP laptops are known to have issues with video chips. They would come loose from not enough cooling and laptop wont turn on any more. I was able to re-flow a few of those and issue was resolved. I also placed extra copper plate between those chips and heat sinks instead of factory soft spongy pad to prevent repeated failure.

    I've a G7-2217cl that possibly needs it's bottom cover replaced. Left side will not close flush despite screw all in the way inside. Either hinge and or bottom cover broken inside. Better to buy new than buying 10 year old replacement part(s)?

    • @DIYtimeTech
      @DIYtimeTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve seen this happen before with my friend’s laptop. Those hinges get really stuck over time to the point that they dont open any more and they break the laptop housing when you try to open the lid. Back then I took apart laptop, loosened & lubricated the hinges, glued together broken housing and laptop was useable again. It’s kinda pretty involved process. Up to you if you wanna mess with it. I think I have a video how I did it, let me check...

    Hey there, I just wanna ask what could be the problem of my laptop that’s not been charging and is not used for a month now because I accidentally tripped on the charger cord while it is plugged in and that my foot pulled it accidentally while walking and that it was pulled out from the charging port in a not appropriate wat to plugging it out. I would really appreciate if you could reply to my comment, thank you.
    And also when I plugged it in back it is not charging anymore. What could be the problem? I really want to know. Could it be the prongs inside the charger are bent away and that’s why my laptop’s not charging? Thank you very much in case you could possibly help me with my problem.

    • @DIYtimeTech
      @DIYtimeTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likely power cord got damaged. Try to find identical known working charger and see if it will work. If not, then its possibly charging port.

      @lelouchthotslayer4091 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually found an identical working charger but it seems that the charger is working but the laptop wasn’t charging and I think it could be really the charger port of the laptop that is damaged. Thank you for taking time to reply on my comment, I really appreciate it. Thank you very much

    My Laptop Charger port was broken again now. So I have a hughe problem I really need to make my laptop be repaired it's port again.
    I need it continusly, Don't know what to do I am in great panic.
    well I am still within my parents and trust them still.
    idk what to do yet I don't have the materials but I'll try my best for this Instead of replacing it just move it onto near the porting area to solve this but I have big philip screws and the ones are smaller ones and this is my problem with it. I can't screw it also. But I'll need to do it in order to repair it.

      Only if you are not comfortable soldering it yourself. Plus, on some laptops charging ports are plug and play, no soldering required.
      Plus you can buy replacement port yourself for $5 - shop will charge you $50. Plus they will charge you 💪🏼 &🦵🏼hourly rate for disassembly/reassembly, when you can easily do it yourself. Its up to you...

    My Asus zenbook ux535 of 3 years recently had its first problem. The charging port got fried somehow. Charger does not go in smoothly anymore and neither do other ones that I tried. I would always have my charger connected to the laptop on my desk. It wasn’t an issue before so I have no clue how this happened. Tech guy opened it for me and confirmed it got fried and my bad luck it had to be connected to the mother board. I’m extremely sad as I love this laptop and now it’s been sent in to be diagnosed by a local repair shop. They have to get back to me still. I’m just very stressed that it won’t get fixed. I really don’t wanna buy another laptop as I love this one and it’s hard to find now days. I’m sorry for commenting I guess I just need the support. Seeing everyones desk setups and computers all over my algorithm makes me depressed. Is this something that can be fixed ? Once again I’m sorry for putting my problems on here. It’s just been a really rough few days for me.
