This tutorial was extremely helpful. My 13 year old child was able to follow your video and instructions. After we bought $20 worth of soldering supplies and a $10 replacement port, my child was able to resurrect a $700 laptop following this. Thank you so much.

This was short and simple to follow. I should've been watched this video to restore my samsung chromebook ports after both melted almost 2 years ago. Thanks for the video. I'll update when I fix the chromebook with new ports.

Thanks for this. Been watching a couple of these type of videos. Can you tell me why some people first apply fresh solder before removing the old solder and why some dont? Also, you could have shown the most important parts to whom is trying to learn, as in how to apply the flux and the solder in detail. Please do not cut of these parts from the video.

bit late, but lead-free solder (used by all manufacturers) can be very difficult to get flowing onto the solder wick. What some people are doing is adding a bit of leaded solder to alleviate that. Leaded solder is generally preferred by hobbyists since its easier to work with. Also if you're having trouble with wicking adding a bit of flux onto the wick can help as well. The best way to do this though is with a hot air station as opposed to an iron since it lets you heat all points at once and easily remove the connector. Ofc, not everyone has access to one or can justify the investment.

Why desoldering is much harder than soldering ?
I try the same in my asus X53S but i can't desolder the plug, my soldering iron is set up on 350C and it melts my tin (with lead) very easy, but this tin usen on this jack in unmeltable for me, is it tin without lead (higher melting temperature) or what ?

Good video but just redo the segment next time instead of a tricky jump cut (putting the red probe on ground instead of the black) that could confuse tf outta somebody

Hi I know this is an old video so you probably won't respond but I have a new port and am going to replace the one on my Asus but I just eanted to check, is it cool to just remove the motherboard to do this? Like do I have to do anything with my laptop first before I remove it? Will it erase anything by disconnecting it?

No it will not, all your data is stored on your hard drive or ssd, by doing this you are completely safe in that regard. I would recommend watching a tutorial on how to teardown your specific laptop and possibly learn a bit of terminology before doing this because sometimes there can be issues in addition to this with which that knowledge would help.
