- Fallout was the spiritual successor to Wasteland, so it's funny how things come full circle. Also a quick update, I want to make sure some are aware that Wasteland 3's "classes" are more along the lines of flavor, in a manner of speaking. The classes I played around with were preset ones that inXile themselves created. However, you can also customize your own characters dictating their skills, attributes, and a quirk! Figured I'd clear that up to be safe.

Thank you for that addendum. Building out custom classes was part of the fun for Wasteland 2, which everyone who likes turn based games or true rpgs should play.

Fallout tactics?
Wasteland 2 was amazing despite some flaws. I really wished some of the game features were more fleshed out, some of that came in the Director Cut version. I cannot wait for Wasteland 3. This franchise would be godlike with the modern XCOM combat depth and variety.
Wasteland 2 is one of the most criminally underrated and overlooked videogame of the last decade. (Strong opinion, I know.) Games like this are an absolute treat. It makes me very happy to see games like Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2, Wasteland 2 & 3, Pillars of Eternity, the upcoming Baldur's gate 3, etc still being made today. They are treasures and should be cherished.
John The thing is that it's a relatively small market. When you compare it to Call of Dooty and Ass Creed 20. Corporations are so interested in the modt profitable thing its rare we get games that have real heart and depth to them

I hope that Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian leads to more Pillars games or something similar. You are exactly right those games are just incredible in the depth of choice and the immersion that the game provides. There is a major issue today with shallow open world games in which you just do repetitive activities and never feel like you are in control of anything. Pillars, Wasteland, and Divinity are a call back to the Baldurs Gate true RPG experience.

The new Shadowrun games should be on that list. They're free on Epic right now for anybody that didn't try them.
I feel like we are in the RPG renaissance the last year or so and I couldn't be happier. Everything from Xcom, to Divinity, to even lesser done games like Mutant Year Zero and now Wasteland and Baldur's Gate 3 being in the pipeline too. It's a great fucking time to be an older RPG fan that's for sure :D

Pretty bad for people who like big budget western rpgs, though. CDPR is making an fps, Bioware is making loot shooters, and Bethesda's making survival games.

Exposure for game series i enjoy is great, but credit where its due to the OG apocalyptic series.
Yes, I went with that comparison for recognition's sake. A lot of people I know LOVE Fallout but have (sadly) never heard of Wasteland or gave it a try. I feel aligning the two, which are similar in a number of ways, helps more people open the door to it and give it a chance. That's what the whole video is designed to do.

Never played the original Wasteland, but I did play Wasteland 2 and it was fantastic, I've been looking forward to this one for quite a while.
Classes sound weird, but I guess it's a way to organize a little bit the skills. After all in W2, you could argue that depending on builds each character had a class already, like medic, sniper, melee, and so on. The difference is that here it will be way more apparent.
My only gripe with the gamplay I saw is that the combat lacked a bit of **OOF** How in W2 you could see the bullets traveling and hitting, and feel the punch each time you took a shot.
Since we'll likely never see a turn based isometric Fallout game ever again, this is as close as it gets, and I'm still hyped for it.

Classes in Wasteland seems really weird, but I'll give it a shot. I played the original Wasteland over and over again so many times. We didn't get a lot of new released back in those days.

Dead-Owl 911 it was tough to get started compared to games of today. You do a lot of leveling skills by using them. Helps to know where the hidden loot is, assuming it’s true to the original

Wasteland 2 was amazing just a very slow burn, glad to see Wasteland 3 is even better and has gotten the near awful UI from W2 much much better for Wasteland 3. Thank you Matty for this discussion and upload.

To be clear I'm not against isometric games. I can't play them because they make my neck and head hurt and cause me to feel nauseous. I also get a disconnected feeling like I'm floating above my body. I've actually thrown up a few times after playing them. I miss out on a lot of games I'd love to play because of this.
@@PRiMETECHAU Nah, it's not my eyes. It's a problem I've had since I was a child. The problem is that my brain thinks I'm looking down and it messes up my equilibrium.
Actually, now that I think about it I could try laying my monitor down so I'm looking down while I'm playing. I bet that would stop me from getting sick.
I love the first two "Wasteland" games & can't wait for the 3rd one as it looks quite polished & refined, terrific impressions on it man!
I'm almost 15. I started to play Fallout by Fallout 4, when I completed the campaign I was curious of what were the previous games, so I started looking for fallout 1, I downloaded it, I gave it a try and I enjoyed it more than Fallout 4 :). I tried also Fallout 2, 3, tattics and new Vegas.
The tone of wasteland is more comical than those games, but it can get pretty grim when it wants to be.

Seems interesting but I hate isometric rpgs... if this was more like a modern Fallout game I'd be more interested but the top down thing is very offputting for me.
Why? I felt that way at first for the first 2. It's fine and you get used to it.

It just preference for some people, it’s the same with me. I just can’t get into isometric games no matter how good they may be. I feel disconnected from the game world and I get bored instantly

Its been like two years or so since it got announced right? I remember playing Wasteland 2 and hoping a third was in development which was. My most exciting aspect is definitely coop.

When that car driving through the snow, it was impressive. Really well done. Never thought much about Wasteland 3. Maybe it'll give me the same wibes as Fallout 3 gave me when it was first released and playing it for the first time.
Maybe, but FONV was always more similar in feel and tone to the originals as some of the creators from 1 & 2 help make New Vegas were as 3 was made by Bethesda. So if your one of those people that can only love one and has to hate the other Wasteland 3 may not be what you're hoping for... Just something to keep in mind before you make a purchase.

This looks great! I couldn't get into Wasteland 2, but I think this will be a good follow-up to New Vegas.
Wasteland two did this, it automatically used the ranger with the best skill when you did anything from pick locks, heal, mines all that shit. Also when you loot all it would sort the loot put to the most appropriate character.
This game is highly highly anticipated like up there with Cyberpunk 2077 or Ps5

I really enjoyed Wasteland 2/Director's Cut. It had room for improvement in graphics/gameplay/etc but it was really fun and enjoyable and I am really looking forward to 3!
I really hope they add: More loot, more weapon customization, deeper character creation, more ways to customize each squad member, extended dialog for more possible actions/reactions, bigger map with many more locations, much longer campaign or how about a sandbox mode. The graphics look way better than WL2 so I hope they stay on top of that, WL2 looked dated when released but gameplay is *way more important* to me than graphics.

Yeah. Weird that it didn't get as much love as I think it should have. No it wasn't exactly like Fallout 1&2, but why should it have to be? It's just a different genre of game in the same universe is all, and it was a great game at that.
It's definitely more Fallout than Fallout 3, Fallout 4 or Fallout 76.

Roy Conwell well its likely just my experiences or just how I build characters but they take more investment than other weapons you very much have to make the right kind of character for it as it’s got low accuracy destroys your cover and you have to have the ap points to get close. Energy weapons are also up there but if you pick the right perks they can get you to endgame. By all means you might make a great shotgun class but they’d need high endurance agility and intelligence if you want them to be anything apart from a shotgunner
Roy Conwell I’ll also give you a small hint for later onto the game reinforced doors can be broken with a certain melee weapon I won’t go further as it’d spoil it but there’s a point where you’d be thinking ‘it’s not important but how the hell do I open this’

I am excited and more excited sense it is part of Gamepass Ultimate for PC. Ever since I played Mutant year Zero, I am changing my tune with these types of RPG Type game plays.

I felt the same until I played Divinity 2, or as I like to call it, digital D&D. That's when I knew I have discounted a whole genre of great games.
Its a disgrace that this is not bigger news but hey its the way life is now huh. Its up there as my number one most exited about but Resident Evil 3 remake may just beat it its a tough one for me especially as an old school fallout fan.

I thought that Avellone and Company did a great job with Wasteland 2, reclaiming the Arizona Rangers and the Wasteland property from whatever the Hell BethesTodd was gonna do with it. And here's the thing: I love the FallOut property and it's sense of humor and the way that civilization is trying to rebuild itself as things move forward in the timeline. But 76 was just a FIFA-Forza-Battlefield cash grab, and they didn't respect us enough to even thinly disguise it.
So yeah, there are pretty much three games I'm stoked about for '20: CP77, Wasteland 3 and BG 3. And I'm hoping that Spiders puts some DLC out for GreedFall.
Your video title is a bit misleading.
Outer Worlds is the appropriate "Fallout Killer", not this game because this is not modern fallout. I play fallout games for a visceral FPS RPG that I can modify to customize it to my play though. FO4 wasn't much of an RPG, but with mods, it can be.
I don't see how this is like fallout at all, maybe like old fallout 1 and 2, but not at all as fun looking as FO:NV with all of the hundreds of mods available.
My opinion, sure, but when someone says Fallout, they think 76 or FO4, maybe NV, but not Fallout 1 or 2, which are decades old and only $5 for both.
I played Wasteland 2 because it was one of the PS4 games on PSnow. I didn't know shit about this series, or about the world and thought it was probably a Fallout clone type game. I was wrong.I fucking loved playing Wasteland 2 because of many reasons (one of them being it's funny to have a squad comprised of a Jojo character, my own OC, Revolver Ocelot, and a Mexican Stereotype) and I have been hyped to play Wasteland 3 when it comes out. And also I was surprised to find out that the Rangers in New Vegas are a reference to Wasteland and I find that to be a nice touch.
I was hoping they would bring in the WSAD keys for movement not the point and click, I like having control of my characters

My only complaint on Wasteland 2 was after getting to the science mission to help out those settlers I could not figure out what to do next to continue.. made me mad and never got passed it
First Off...Fallout was the spiritual successor to O.G Wasteland.
And the only reason Fallout came into being because Tim Cane, Fargo And Reynolds (the Grand daddies of Fallout) Didn't have access to the Wasteland license back then.

YES! It's a long shot, but hopefully this will knock some sense into Bethesda and show that there is still demand for REAL Fallout games. Maybe even let Obsidian make it? Bethesda could do something smart for a change.
It's AS FALLOUT ***TACTICS*** AS YOU CAN GET! Get it straight! WL2&3 are NOT RPG's! They are RTS! WL2&3 are not like WL1 at all and nothing like FO1&2.
I'm curious @MrMattyPlays I prefer games with a single protagonists and companions you can recruit that are unique NPCs with their own personalities and hopefully sidequests. The original Wasteland was more of a game where you had a party you made so they were all your characters. Where does Wasteland 3 fall?
Wasteland 2 was fun, but it was buggy as hell. some of the bugs were NEVER fixed by the devs, and were eventually only fixed by a bunch of modders who created an entire mod patch for the game.
I do hope they learned from that, and will not release Wasteland 3 in the same buggy state? finger's crossed.

I just finished playing Fallout 2 last week and absolutely loved it. I'm looking for something similar and have high hopes for Wasteland 3. If anyone has played it and is reading this, let me know what you think.

Hopefully, Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut will get a PS+ release one month to anticipate this game. I once borrowed it from my brother-in-law and I miss it.
Ive always thought the wasteland games were pretty cool. But ive never played one and probably never will, just because of the top down view. Ive never liked top down games. Probably missed out on a lot of great games for that reason, but im fine with it.
Wasteland 2 was good but kinda unbalanced I felt like Assault rifles where way to good being able to do 270+ damage a turn (On normal) . While pistols did at most half of that

I tried getting into Wasteland 2, but I HATE top-down turn-based combat. Damn shame because the third game looks cool.
I dont get why so many wanted DAH, that's old news, played out, and honestly gets way more attention than a mediocre experience like it is, should get or should ever get.
I started this today and I love it. Wasteland 1 was one of my first RPGs so I've always had fond memories of the series. This was one of the first, if not the first PC game I pre-ordered.

Robert Cone id say (from what I saw) that the changes are more in line with the evolution we see with Larian Studios and Baldur’s Gate 3. Cutscenes, voice work, and animation receiving major changes which is significant per franchise, but expected from most gamers nowadays

snipers were the ones that carried you in wasteland 2, you either completely misused your sniper, or you're out of your mind.
