Thing is (astaghfirullah I myself hated how I think) when I thought that sunnah prayers were compulsory as well I used to slack more, i would become even more lazy thinking Zuhr is so long, or Isha is long too. I ended up missing more of my prayers because I was lazy. When I found out that it's okay to pray only the fard and I can add the sunnah on top of it if I want to, I started to pray more. Alhumdulillah my mindset changed too, I began thinking, it's only just 4 rakat, just 2 rakat. And when I started to pray the fard sometimes I'd think I'm already standing here and I have time maybe I can pray the sunnah too. I wish I was taught like this since I was a kid, starting with the fard if you have a hard time committing to prayer is the best way and then increase the rakats gradually.

I started praying my sunnah when my iman was higher but for a few months I just haven't had that same spark but I still have to pray. I pray my fard and if I feel motivated on a day to pray more then I do. I know for a fact if I started putting the pressure of sunnah on myself again at this moment that I would just feel burdened and I dont want to make my prayers a burden.

@@hassanwaseem4186 its like maghrib 3 rakaats fard the first two rakaats is surah fatiha and another surah and the second rakaat is a tashaahud. the 3rd rakat is surah fatiha, another surah and then you raise your hands and say allahuakbar like you do when starting prayer . then you recite duaa e qunoot and then you carry on with the rest of the prayer i.e the tashaahud, allahumma sali ala, allahumma barik ala and so on.
      Short Version:
Basically its the 3 rakaats fard of maghrib but on the 3rd rakaat after reading a surah after surah fatiha you raise you hands and say allahuakbar and read duaa e qunoot and carry on with the rest of the prayer.
On your regards about if witr is compulsory, It is recorded that Ali bin Abu Talib said, "The witr prayer is not required like your obligatory prayers but the Prophet would perform the witr prayer and say, 'O you people of the Quran, perform the witr prayer, for Allah is One and He loves the witr. '" The literal meaning of witr is "chord of a circle".

    - [00:00]* 🕋 Obligatory prayers: You are mandated to pray the five daily prayers. Anything beyond that is voluntary.
    - [01:18]* 💡 Importance of voluntary prayers: While only performing the obligatory prayers is not sinful, engaging in voluntary prayers elevates your spiritual level and compensates for any deficiencies in obligatory prayers.
    - [03:37]* 💭 Concentration and rewards: Lack of concentration and additional movements during prayers reduce the rewards. Allah compensates for deficiencies in obligatory prayers through voluntary prayers, elevating the spiritual level of the individual.

I am trying to add the 4 Sunnah for Asr as well, and sometimes I get lazy, sometimes I don't so may Allah SWT make it easy for me. But the point is, you start by adding 1 extra set of rakah, and keep adding slowly overtime. Meaning every few weeks or months even, you add a new set. This way, you don't get overwhelmed.

Then add the witr prayer and finally add the night prayer if you can. Build yourself up slowly rather then try too much too soon and crash. And allah knows best.

As a habit, one sheikh said that you shouldn't make praying fardh the minimum. Consider 3 men: one prays fardh, sunnah and nafl, one prays sunnah and fardh, and one prays only fardh. Our Imaan goes up and down. If the first and second person's imaan goes dowm they have the sunnah or the fardh to fall back on. The third person who prays fardh - he does not have anything to fall back on and will fall short of the the obligatory amount of salah. With proper planning and preparation, this can be overcome, insha Allah.

For people who don't pray at all, just start by praying only the fard prayers, after a while you will automatically start praying the sunnahs and nawafils. That's what happened to me, you just need to get in to a routine first, namaz is so peaceful that you automatically start praying the sunnahs as well.

Everyone here needs to look at what sunnah muakkadah is vs ghair muakkadah. I used to pray Fardh only, however, after I stopped neglecting my sunnah muakkadah… entire life turned around. Look at it this way, your Fardh are your obligatory prayers, however your sunnah muakkadah will help you on that spiritual journey (at least this is where they helped me). Rather than just aimlessly and mindlessly looking to just complete prayers and tick them off like a robot, slow the prayer down and try to be present. I recommend reading Inner Dimensions of Prayer by Imam ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah.

What the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said is sufficient. No need to add ifs, ands, or buts to what he said. No need for "having said that" after saying what the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said. Stop at what the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said. That's enough. If the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم wanted us to consider what you told the questioner to consider, he would have told the person who questioned him to consider that.

Its probably takes you about 5 mins to do wudu and get into the mindset of prayer. Then it takes about 3 to 4 mins to just pray fardh.
You have already spent around 10 mins. I'm pretty sure if you spend an extra 5 to 6 mins on additional sunnah shouldn't be too much trouble.
If you listen to songs then its as long as listening just 2 songs. Another example is that of an average TH-cam video that is about 8 to 10 mins.
So think about it the next time you feel like it's taking too much time.

      Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaidullah:
A man from Najd with unkempt hair came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and we heard his loud voice but could not understand what he was saying, till he came near and then we came to know that he was asking about Islam. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "You have to offer prayers perfectly five times in a day and night (24 hours)." The man asked, "Is there any more (praying)?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "No, but if you want to offer the Nawafil prayers (you can)." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) further said to him: "You have to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." The man asked, "Is there any more fasting?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "No, but if you want to observe the Nawafil fasts (you can.)" Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) further said to him, "You have to pay the Zakat (obligatory charity)." The man asked, "Is there any thing other than the Zakat for me to pay?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "No, unless you want to give alms of your own." And then that man retreated saying, "By Allah! I will neither do less nor more than this." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If what he said is true, then he will be successful (i.e. he will be granted Paradise)."
