A dually as a daily driver is a beast. Towing... I wouldn't trade mine for the world. I started out with an F-150 and a 26' pull trailer. Every time I got passed by a transport it felt like we were headed for the rhubarb. Now, with a 40' fiver and a dually, the only time I notice a transport passing is when I hear the noise from its engine. But yes, it's a long walk from your parking spot to the entrance of the grocery store.

our "work" truck is a 95 Ram 1/2 ton, we bought it for work, not pretty no bells and whistles, standard tranny. Bought in 97, 33k miles....we have worked the crap outta it, still use it. My main bitch with Rams, at least the standard transmissions. We had our clutch replaced 3x's. It became a you did it type of thing. The last time we went in when they changed it. A crucial part in the clutch is plastic..yes freaking plastic. So a thing that actually had me stop driving it, was neither of our faults, its a Dodge design flaw. But hey, the beast is still running....Your Ram is so pretty, glad it works for you..for our RV we'll stick with our Mack.

Great video. What size wheels came on your RAM when stock and what’s your payload capacity with all those high end Limited options? I have a 21 F350 dually and it came with 17s. I’m a pretty loyal Ford guy. I like the 1,150 lb ft of torque, and with a 4:10 rear end, it tows like a beast. I love the 10 speed trans. It’s always in the right gear. My payload capacity is 5,650 pounds, so trailer weight isn’t a problem. I would like to have the F450 turning radius, but I couldn’t find the trim level I wanted when I bought mine. The one area where I know the Ram smokes the Fird is the exhaust brake. Mine works well, but not even close to the Ram’s.

  • @ariverstonesthrowaway

We also have the 3500 Ram Dually with the HO engine but with the 4:10 rear. Love the truck, mileage isn't as good as yours (probably your gearing), we are still living with the tiny rims (why do they do that?) added the fuel tank/tool box combo which gives us 50 additional gallons which has been awesome. Since dealers have to post the Vin number for vehicles, we were able to use the VIN Decoder to quickly determine which vehicle had the configuration we needed to tow our toyhauler - it was ALOT of work to find the right truck - but happy with what we have. Who knows many a HDT for the next truck? LOL!

I bought a ram 2018 dually, when I was researching which truck to pick I learned that in order to work on the stupid ford engine, it has to be yanked out of the truck $$$. But not the ram. Plus at that time ram kicked ford in the butt for towing capacity, and power.
And since I bought my ram a few years ago, I noticed ford has had a lot more recalls than the ram. I’ve never owned a ford nor a ram prior. But I do love my truck. 🍻
Oh, lol, I ordered my truck, didn’t have to run across the country looking for what I wanted.

Big Booty Judy is our rigs name. 21 Ram 3500 HO. We are from OKC and had to go out of state to Fayetteville to find ours. Main reason, no one local had a 3500 HO. Pulls our GDM 399th no problem. Growing up ram was just a work truck but they have come along way since the 80's on interior. Sheila my wife is our navigator to, I can't lol. Switch it Up!!!

Nearly purchased a beautiful Ram Laramie Longhorn 3500 Dually with H.O. Cummins. The interior of the Ram is more plush than the Ford. But we purchased the Ford F450 Lariat with the Ultimate Tow Package. It had many other options as well. The turning radius is insane. The larger brakes are really nice. The larger rear axles and standard 4:30 to 1 rear gear ratio is just what I wanted for our return trip to the Colorado Rockies. (killed it). My wife felt the cluster around the rear view mirror in the windshield created too much of a blind spot/distraction in the Ram. Both nice trucks. I'm glad we're both happy with our purchases

With all your #'s you nailed it...Love Ram but that's just a personal preference.
BUT....MDT or HDT is where it's at....ask you friends over at Suit Travels..🙂🙂🙂‼️‼️
Freightliner, Western Star, Volvo, Peterbilt are my favs....I was in the business back in the late 80 thru to 2002.
You won't beat the ride comfort, space, braking control, fuel capacity, or the stability mover any 450 or smaller pick up.
Prices are comparable to a point and fuel mileage can be almost the same.
THANKS for making this very important ‼️‼️ not researching the#'s..it could be a matter of safety or desaster.
One more point ....insurance company's can make your claim a living nightmare if you are over on your #'s
Keep up the great work and say HI to Suit Travels for us....Rob & Wendy‼️

Thanks for the great video, great information!! What I learned in my truck quest earlier this year is that dealers don know Jack!! ALL they care about is towing capacity when in reality payload capacity is much more crucial, you'll run outta payload generally well before towing capacity! And diesel motors weigh 800-1000 lbs more than gas motors and yes that takes away from your payload capacity, again dealers have NO clue about this. I had so many salesmen trying to sell me a diesel because of course diesel tows more BUT the payload was too low. Enjoyed trying to educate them and most had no idea, shame on the manufacturers for only pushing towing capacity!

    Sexy Trucks have Hips 😜
We have a 21 Ram. It's a Tradesmen but came with a ton of options. 50gal fuel-360cam-auto rear air suspention-intergrated trailer brake-duel alternaters with 400watt inverter with incab and rear bed 110ac outlets.
That's just a few of the options.
We are taking delivery of our Alliance Valor 40v13 next week on the 16th.
We chose the Executive Gen-Y hitch to keep the bed available also 👍

We always enjoy your videos. Fun and informative. We chose the 2021 F450 and actually had to order one from the factory but did get to spec it out exactly how we wanted it (there were no 450s within 500 miles of our home). Don’t think you can go wrong with either choice but we really like the turning radius of the Ford but give up a little mileage with the 4.30 rear end. But ultimately love the dually because it feels more sure footed.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 and I actually nailed it first try,I knew what I needed and it had it all.
I got the best gearing and it's tows 11000 LBs! I'm towing a 2021 primetime avenger 16FQ and fully loaded its well under 5000LBs so I have to remember that I'm towing cuz you can't feel it at all 😉

I love my black Ram, I hate its so hard to keep clean. Next time you take the e bikes out and you have to haul them to a trail could you record loading them in the box and how you strap them down. Ours are on their way and would rather watch someone who has been thru the trial and errors faze on how to transport these. rather then scratching the s#it out of my box hauling them considering they’re pretty heavy.

Face it Shiela. Todd has what I call the squirrel syndrome. He jumps off the track all the time.
If he was navigating you would be going every where but where you wanted to go. Every train needs a conductor (your the conductor) and he's the engineer. He gets the train there safe and sound.
By the way you can pretty much pull anything with a truck. That's not the issue. It's stopping it safely. I know I pulled a 14,000lb peace of equipment with a little Izuzu truck. It pulled it but stopping and turning was what I would call the pucker factor. If you turned a corner it would push you sideways and stopping was hang on.
We purchased a 2013 Volvo 780 for $24,000 add the fifth wheel and decking total cost $30,000. I can pull our coach that comes in at 20,000lbs empty. Loaded we are at 28,000lb. I wanted to be able to stop or climb that hill and come down safe.
Safe trails and roads, Brian and Cindy "xtreambydesign with passion"

@@SwitchItUpLife Start looking now trucking companies are liquidating trucks as a ploy to hire new drivers.
Ours is a Volvo 780 with 500k miles. It's a automatic 12 speed. Double bunk, has a fridge, microwave. Lower bunk converts into a dinnet.
We love to take our grand kids. We can take all 6 plus. Have room for me and Nanna. She has a 26" tv with DVD player in the sleeper also. Two up top and four on the bottom.
And Nanna sleeping in her chair. When we are running down the road.

Great video, the red check for Towing Capacity is comparing the Towable RV GVWR to the Towing Capacity of the truck (Top box). It was driving me nuts that all the spreadsheet would indicate is a red/green check. I just added in the calculation to see how much towing capacity I have left over. The KDY spreadsheet is awesome.

I (Willie) grew up in a Chevy family... My dad was pretty disappointed when I traded my Harley in on a F350! haha... It was a great truck though and we had a F450 for a while pulling our travel trailer and the turning radius was unbelievable, I could U-turn on a 2 lane road!! We now have a 17 Chevy 3500 drw (Smokey) now puling our home away from home and love it! I'm sure dad is smiling down on us when we drive now... 🤙

    • @SwitchItUpLife
      @SwitchItUpLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Bruce, thanks for watching - we have found that the 50 gal tank works for us. We don't travel that many miles from spot to spot, so we haven't yet run into a situation where we would need a larger tank. Some might but have not found that in our situation. Well....yet :-)

Ram / Dodge is the last truck that I would purchase.
They still have quality problems. Their interiors are beautiful though.
I live in Michigan and I know someone who builds Ram trucks and even they will not buy one.
In my humble opinion I would not own a Ram / Dodge more than 40k miles if were to purchase one.
