    What's your thoughts on the Edge? Check out the @retrotechdad Edge video for size comparisons, and more in-depth benchmarking.
    Update: Razer reached out after watching the video and wanted folks to know specifics on the SOC
    "G3x Gen 1 is not simply a rebranded 888 chip. While it does use the same Andrino 660 gpu, it’s factory overclocked compared to the 888’s 660, yielding almost 30% higher performance in test environments.
    So, while the chips might read to be the same, the performance of them is very different because of the layout of the gaming platform, and active cooling that’s been implemented."
    *Also - the Nexus app and Kishi v2 Pro firmware updates have now added touch screen control mapping! (Thanks GumbyX on our discord)
    Correction: aspect ratio is 20:9 NOT 21:9
    Another update: it's come to our attention that the Kishi drains the Edge battery while in standby mode pretty quickly (~50% every 8 hours). Razer is aware and there is a possible firmware update to correct this soon.

      Seeing PS1 run on it, you can almost put 2 of those screen side by side... I don't understand Razer's logic putting in such a wide screen, I wish you guys asked them about that at CES, I really wanna know what their logic is behind that decision, and why round the corners? Just imagine if it had a 16x9 screen, it wouldn't be so effn wide on top of having that controller attached, like really you might as well just get a used phone and slap it in and save a few bucks. I just really wish they used a 16x9 screen without rounded corners like a smartphone. A phone...🤷‍♂
      Even Dijisho looks messed up on it lol, see!? Everything is made for 16x9! I was hoping to see dreamcast be able to do widescreen at 21x9.. DS looks decent though! Like most of everything you've played has borders, even streaming.. just.. I really wanna know what they thought about this. As I suspected Geforce Now is the only one that does widescreen streaming, I heard they did this a few weeks back.
      I would have liked to see a side by side with the Odin and other devices.
      It just seems like a device that's made for android gaming where the games can mostly scale. Benchmarks are great! But that screen I can't justify buying that.
      My top 3 is what I got, the Odin, my RP3+ and the 351V Woodgrain. lol

      I agree with you about the WiFi model and still think it is a decent value (in the Android space) at $399 with the Kishi.

    • @leelee7334
      @leelee7334 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can buy a s21 WiFi only with the same chipset for less than $200 and slap a controller on it. I think two handhelds are all we need. A cheap one for the street and an expensive one that is powerful enough to play everything.

      @@KyleRuggles it's s because mobile gamers are their focus

    • @KyleRuggles
      @KyleRuggles ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retrohandhelds So... Android games, that's basically what it is, android games. I mean most games in the past decade have been geared towards 16x9 and games that dynamically scale, and that really doesn't happen here. Except for... android games.
      And when you think about it, why did we go to 21x9 on our vertical phones in the first place? Is there any real reason to do this on a horizontal gaming device? Just when ya think bout it, ya know?
      Like the only reason this is so wide is because smartphones are that tall and that people have become accustomed to playing these super wide aspect ratio games on their phones, but it doesn't have to be this way when everything is geared to 16x9? lol... ya know? Movies, tv shows, tv's.. STILL... the standard is 16x9.
      To me this device just shows how... little thought they put into this. A rounded cornered smartphone screen, in a rectangle box, with a controller attached that makes it even more wide... how crazy this world is lol.

    Thanks Stubbs! This device is awesome. I can't get over the telescopic controller/tablet instead of unibody design though. I know it's a nitpick but if I was gonna go that route I would just as soon use my phone with a Kishi 2 instead.

  • @RetroBreezeYT
    @RetroBreezeYT ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I've no doubt the Edge is an awesome and powerful device in itself, but the lies around the RAM and the G3X being a rehashed 888 are absolutely unforgiveable. I think that Razer are laughing at gaming handheld enthusiasts while they count their money and I won't give them a dime of mine. It's two years late to be the cutting edge, top-tier handheld they promised. Just falsehoods and deceit from the very start.

      Yeah I wasn't sure how much to get into that, I wish the chip was something known instead of this secrecy around it, still performs like a champ but I'm sure devices like the Red Magic 8 and S23 will be better for people.

    Super excited for my unit to come in. Been alot of hate with it, which is very understadable. I dont like how this handheld has been misrepresented by both Razer and Qualcomm, especially Qualcomm with the snapdragon and adreno in it, not to mention the ram situation. Personally I like what the Edge has to offer for its price and I can see people saying you should just get a smartphone and slap a kishi v2 but my wife got this for her two phones to just be her work and personal phone while this is a dedicated handheld. She already has a steam deck and a switch so this is just another cool handheld option. Currently looking to add either the Anbernic Win600 or the Ayaneo Air as a windows handheld alternative. Thank you for the fair review and all the extensive testing youve done, especially with tje emulation side. I hope Razer supports this device with quality of life driver updates to make this device even better since they have a habit of dropping certain devices.

      Ah hope you enjoy it! Did you get WiFi or 5G? Adding another Windows handheld brings with it a world full of projects with all the OS options available now. Of those options, I actually prefer the Win600 although the Air is more powerful.

    How's the battery drain if you just leave the Kishi plugged in to the tablet? Is it negligible?

    • @retrotechdad
      @retrotechdad ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my testing, it was about 2% per hour with the Kishi plugged in. It was one of my criticisms and I believe this has to do more with Android still supplying power to any device connected via USB C.

    Razer Edge + GameSir X-4 Aileron Bluetooth/Wireless Controller...

    12 or 16gb ram + a better fan system needed...

    This device is great for me because using my phone with a kishi or any telescopic controller is a pain (especially since i have the fold 4 i hate using this with a controller) I always have to remove my case and I don't have the space to hold my emulation collection because their is no sd card slot. The bezels don't bother me i love the heft of the device it feels like I'm holding something. First device in a while where I feel comfortable not using a case.

    I really hate that they make this instead of the Razor phone 3. I still use a half broken Razor phone 2 that I thru against the wall so the screen is kinda loose from the from the phone but it's perfect for a music phone with both speakers and in the car. As far as I can tell it's the only phone with the full version of Dolby Atmos on it. Not that garbage one on Samsung phones I'm talking like the one on my PC. The sound quality unmatched from any other phone I've ever heard and I've been looking.

      @@retrohandheldsIn the video you can clearly see that the device is most of the time not aligned on the left side - in different positions. That looks horrible and as it is sold as one device, so not the controller and tab separately, it should fit perfectly so that is for me a complete no go. Maybe it is not "wiggle" but it is also not fitting very well - from what I can see ...

Oh, what about the pixel count, are the numbers still correct when you loose quite a lot of them for the oversized corners? Someone please count ... 🙂
