  • Have you ever used any 03RL? It can be a 12, 10, 08, you name it as long it is a 03RL. If you have used this small of a needle configuration you will know that it can be pretty intimidating and that there are a hand full of things that can horribly wrong when using 03RL.
Within this video I want to touch base on Why 03RL Are DANGEROUS! Not only do I want to talk about multiple variables we should be considering prior to using any 03RL, I also will show you a real world demo scenario on some practical ways that we expose ourselves to dangers each and every tattoo we do.
Be sure to stick around until the end to become familiar with why 03RL are dangerous. Should you have any questions feel free to drop it in the comment section below and I will do my best to assist you in the best possible direction.
I will also leave my amazon affiliate and other affiliate links for you below so you can check out the gear that is featured in this video on your end.

There really is no better way to start the day than with one of your videos Daniel and a couple pages of the tattoo journal! Thank you for todays video Daniel this was extremely helpful and though I have only used a 3rl once or twice due to it being in a dragonhawk variety pack I have noticed how slasher happy they are. My first ever experience was with a prison style tattoo machine and pen spring needles as a 1RL on an orange and that had sliced right through and kinda drilled it in my head that the smaller groupings are like a razorblade! Though I know its outside of your recommended range... I had fallen in love with the 14rl last year and I just can't seem to shake it from my heart! Thank you for your demonstrations with the silicone had as that was extremely helpful for visualizing (safely!). Blessings to you family brother! You are appreciated Daniel!

GAVIN!! I always enjoy hearing from you, it's an honor my friend! Haha I like that term "Slasher Happy" as they are 110% slasher happy. I don't feel they are a bad needle at all in any way, shape or form, I probably should have expressed that more in the video. I personally love 03RL needles and the sizing is my go to when it comes to certain applications. So there is the side of me that loves the 03RL but there is also the side of me that see's the dangers of the 03RL and tattooing in general.
I just would not recommend to a beginner to use a 03RL because of the slasher happy nature of them alone. I was no where near ready when I started to use 03RL. Now I also am aware this rule of thumb will not apply to everyone as we do have the magicians in between but in the macro, I feel it is much better to use a 11-14RL to start with. That mid range needle grouping size I feel is a healthy place to begin but everyone will feel differently.
I have a question for you and I am going to ask this in my community section as well.
If you had to say, what would you say is a good needle range for beginners to start with?

    • @gavin46063
      @gavin46063 หลายเดือนก่อน

@DanielYuck And it is always an honor to hear from you, my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed slasher happy as I am a fan of good ol' fashion slasher flicks and any time I can work that in I do!
I should say I didn't feel you had maliceful opinions on the 03rl, but rather, a fair warning of what they are capable of. I like the balance of enjoying them for specific purpose, but also being aware of the greater danger that can be posed along with the inherent danger that is always there when tattooing. At the end of the day every needle grouping is a tool for a job and that was an impression I got from you.
Every rule can be broken and though there will always be talented individuals who can start in ranges outside of the norm. I do think certain commonalities will always help the majority. Like you mentioned with the smaller gauges needing to be dealt with greater precision. Or the use of RSs to line with as you have mentioned before.
To happily answer your question on a range for beginners I would personally say the range I was most comfortable with was 9-11-14, or, 9-14. Then adding 7 and 18 as a goal. I hope that makes sense.
Blessings to you and your family Daniel. I hope y'all's day is going well, brother!

3rl is the marker I’m using to see how much I’ve improved in my lining. I work on fake skin only and that grouping always were wobbly. But happily those wobbles are improving and I’m comfortable using the 3rl. 5rl is still my bae though.

I agree! A 03RL will 110% show our mistakes which I kind of like because I like the challenge. I also like to use 3RL for dot work and stipple shading. A 03RL is 1 of my go to needles.

Too true, used a 3RL for a small fish stick and poke I did myself and it took forever to heal, and was so itchy. VS a 5 or 7 RL that pushed the ink perfectly, and the tattoos barely went through an itch & peel phase

Honestly I just started using a lot of 3rl recently now that I can control it and use it I find it to be a great grouping, I'm able to go at a consistent rate and depth I will admit it cuts like butter. Not so much on fake skin but real skin, warm butter. You can apply everything you just said to 1rl too and thats also a necessary and great setup that atleast in my tattoos in needed alot

That is awesome to hear man! I am glad that you got far enough to become comfortable with the 03RL needle groupings. I also love the 03RL groupings and I prefer to shade with this needle along with dot work and shading. I will also use 03RL for lining. When I first started I was not comfortable with this small of a needle configuration. I would be all over the place with it but over time I gradually grew to love the 03RL.

My brother has just started out i got him some 3RLT needles so he can learn that whip shading pepper technique i dont mind him using my dragon sleeve to learn on as its only outline so im getting my tattoo finished for free hopefully it goes alright if not ah well figure something out if we have to

That is awesome of you! You mentioned your brother just started tattooing, How long has he been tattooing ?
I know what you mean. A dragon design and whip/stipple shading can go well together if executed correctly.

Im not a fun of 3rl because it gives me problems when i tattoo with it for darker skin. So i really dont use it as i use for 5rl

I can definitely understand where you’re coming from 110% but the video is meant to raise awareness on the still factual dangers of 03RL tattoo needles.
If you take a look at my channel I also use a 03RL very heavily for all of my work. It’s 1 of my if not my go to needle for most tattoos I will ever do.
I also disagree, I had to learn every needle as they are different. Round shaders is also an needle a had to master along with round liners of various sizes and I still haven’t mastered it.
