This is a perfect depiction of an individual completely out of resonance with the people around her. She is living in that other dimension that she described. So painful to watch.

Painful especially if you've been in that exact situation with super snob people

I think what makes this scene really work is the mix of Frances' pure earnestness in that ending monologue she has, and how despite her being in a totally different dimension from everyone else at the party, they all are sort of won over by her even if it's in a small way and if they don't quite get her. Even before that, they're not really judging her or thinking negatively of her. I think all of that leads to the way they receive ending monologue and that influences how we receive it and really accept and embrace it.

she's so different from everyone around her, but is the type of person I would wanna talk to and be friends with unlike everyone else there. she is like my best friend, free from convention

My favourite line...when she says seemingly out of nowhere 'I like being alone'

I love how they bring back the same soundtrack theme in the ending scene where Frances looks at Sophie and shares that dimension with her

Oh god this scene brings back memories of awkward me during dinner parties. Those parties were not the best.

Honestly fuck all of the snobby rich pricks who hang out at these types of dinner parties. It's so satisfying to see Frances just be her awkward genuine self. It's only painful for some people to watch if they put the hosility of others over their own authenticity as more important.

That "yeah" and seconds later "literally" Greta Gerwig's line deliverance (besides the monologue) may be probably some of the reasons why I consider her performance as one of my favourites.

0:34 Bleugh. Insufferable. I know so many people like her. They say these things as if they're a matter of fact and then people around them agree with them even though it's not a fact and it sounds like they've lifted it from somebody else.
