This is so good! I love the way you take your time to explain every little detail in plain and simple language. As always having fun just watching you put this one together.
Getting my 1/350 TOS Enterprise from E-bay delivered today. I am going to build mine with shuttle bay open & lights from Tenacontrols. I also have a 1/350 refit I bought about 4 years ago but so far I have chickened out to start it only because of the aztecs. I want to do all 5 colors.
Watching glue dry is the ticket price to see how your approach has evolved! Suggestion or crazy idea: a custom shaped clamp for the secondary hull-- made out of Apoxy Sculpt and in several pieces. With built-in flats you can get a clamp on both sides. Felted on the jaws. Just a thought. I know tape's cheap but you do enough of these things it might save time.
One day we spent 8 hours with Kenny Conklin hanging out and watching him cut wood strips and glue em down. So no impatience here. I find this very helpful even though I have a refit and an nx-01
Boyd can you show us more of how you do your putty work to close the seams. And the types of putty that you use depending upon the seam gap. That would be very helpful. Thanks!
You haven't missed anything on that build. I've had it put off to the side for awhile because I'm very busy with client work. I'll be posting more updates on it over the winter, stay tuned :)
@@TrekWorks This is awesome news. I've been really excited to the see the continuation of your work on this amazing model build of the 72 inch TOS Enterprise.
Thanks!!The tips you are giving here on figment issues make this build a lot less trouble.Knowing what you show has made the build go a lot less stressful!!
For those who don't know.... the reason the lights would be blacked out was (likely) not artistic. This was literally where the much bulkier lighting and electricals were located. So they couldn't light them if they wanted to.
Great job so far. Question - on the neck you have 2 LED strip segments and they are individually wired (for a total of 8 wires). Is this by design? I'm wondering if it would be OK to power the second LED segment from the first one. That way, I could get rid of 4 total wires from the neck (2 from each side). Every time I light up my kits, I end up with a jumble/rats nest of wires and reducing that would help. Thanks!
Yes you can wire it that way but I don't like to wire in series. I prefer to have power running to each lighting component so that if one fails it doesn't take out everything connected behind it as well. You can see in the video that I tied all of the neck wires together so that only two come out and go down to the rest of the model.
WWW.solarez.com You want to get their doming type and I would recommend getting the UV flashlight they have that's made to work with it. It's high quality and comes with a rechargeable battery and charger.
Since Testor's Dullcoat seems to be difficult to get here where I live, what's a good alternative? I would like to possibly try something from Krylon. No Rustoleum as I don't like how long it takes for their stuff to dry. Is Tamiya's dull coat any good?
@@TrekWorks Oh! Very good to know. Thank you! I was told by a guy at the hobby shop that Rustoleum acquired Testor's (as well as Model Masters) and they don't put much emphasis on model paints so they're not as committed to making model paints as their regular paints so the supply chain has been diminished. They're having a hard time getting paints from those brands in. Those shelves were empty.
I use the Duplicolor clear matte finish for wheels. It's different than their regular matte clear. It dries without the rough texture you get with the regular stuff. I really like it.

I have a kit coming and I haven't built a model since the sixties I can't tell you how much I appreciate this series.
Always a pleasure learning new techniques to put into my bag of tricks. Never thought of using CA glue to organize wiring. Thanks Boyd.
A true craftsman.... I and the Borg are quite proud !!
Glad to see a production style build on this one Boyd!
Loving this build series! Excellent work Boyd! You are the man when it comes to building these beasts!

So good to see these build videos as a regular feature again and to get the benefit of your experience with this kit - thanks for taking the time!
This is beautiful work! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thanks for doing these build videos again. I'm working on my first Enterprise 1/350. Made me nervous at first, but these videos really help out a lot.
Glad your finding the videos helpful. Have fun building your ship :)
I'm in the same boat, I only watched these videos yesterday and it really eases the nerves and makes me eager to build
Thanks for all the tips Boyd and explaining why you do things.
Your welcome :)
Really cool to see all that wiring come together... the best part is watching the GLUE dry its.... FASCINATING🖖

Check out the 5-color Aztec mask set from Orbital Drydock. I don’t think I would ever have built my refit without them.
Awesome build as always and super informative for me as I get ready to light it.

Some zoomed shots of applying the glue would have been nice. But I really appreciate these videos.

Ok. Who makes that dremel stylus copy? Mine literally just died and I love that style? Thanks Boyd
It's called Genesis but it's no longer made either. It's too bad that whenever they come up with something good, it never stays around for long.
You need to do a video on shipping a completed model.
