Love my USA (SLM) SVT 4-PRO. The EQ is phenomenal, and the tone is HUGE, clean, clear with lots of growl and rich harmonic content. IMO, the 3-tube preamp sounds excellent. Full power is not so easily accessed, leaving some to (inaccurately) say it's underpowered.
Hi Guys! Sorry about some of the wrong information on this video! But the thing is that the Ampeg 2013 and 2012 catalogue had some wrong info printed and I did not double-check! …. But anyway I am excited about the Ampeg 4Pro it’s a real killer amp! RMS Power Output: 300-Watts x 2/900 (mono-bridged @ 8 Ohms) RMS Power Output: 490-Watts x 2/1200 (mono-bridged @ 4 Ohms) RMS Power Output (2 Ohms): 600-Watts x 2 Preamp: Tubes (3 x 12AX7) Power Amp: Solid State Tone Controls: 3-Band Mid Tone Control: 5-Position Graphic EQ: Yes, 9-Band Ultra Low/High Boosts: Yes Balanced Line Out: Yes x 2 Pre/Post with Level Effects Loop: Yes x 2 Preamp Out/Power Amp In: Yes x 2 Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 19 x 5.6 x 15.5 Weight: 39.5 Pounds
Also to add to the chatter, you would need a cable set up for bridge mode +1 +2 I believe. You can’t just move your speaker cable from a mono out and put it in the Bridge out you won’t get the proper power.
Yes, only a 3 tube pre amp section..3 12ax7 tubes..input tube is usually a groove tube and the other 2 witch go to each power sections are reg 12ax7... Argue with me if you like, I've had mine open to change them..there are only 3 in there.. Still, legendary amp with 1200 watts at 4 ohms in mono bridge mode..
Everybody says this amp is rated at 1600 and now you 1800 watts. It is NOT! This amp is 1200 watts bridged at 4 ohms. Also, using the crossover drops the wattage considerably. The 6 Pro has 5 tubes. The 3 Pro has 5 tubes.
My Ampeg SVT 4 Pro has 3 tubes also....but Mine clearly states 1600 watts bridged @ 4 ohms...Though mine is an American made one.....maybe there is a difference if you have a chinese one? Or different year?
Also want to note if you have the SVT 4 Pro....If you want that growl...get the ampeg Classic series cabs...they have speaker breakup that gives the gnarly growl tone. I have the 410HE NON ported...it's a sealed cab and while the 15EN is only 200 watts, this is the biggest reason for the growl....it breaks up nicely! Believe me I wasted money on 2 mesa cabs...both traditional powerhouses....they dont bring the growl like the ampegs...sound good if you want a clean tone but NOT for Ampeg....trust me....dont waste your money.
Boy is that subjective. I ran my 4 Pro bridged through an old Mesa Powerhouse 410 and it was clean, LOUD Ampeg growl all day. Something those mediocre Ampeg cabs you mentioned can't do. Loud.

I own and love this amp. Only 3 tubes, brah
GREAT DEMO AND EXPLANATION OF THIS GREAT AMP SYSTEM…!!
I think you just sold me on that ampeg setup…Thx much….
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this demo in English, Jan-Olof!
Good demonstration and instruction
Awesome! I met him at "NAMM MUSIC TRADE" back in 2012. We jammed on an svt together.
Yeah, he's great. Thanks for your comment!

You also need to depress the mono/stereo button on the back to use the crossover.
Excellent video, thanks Jan-Olof. Just wish I could afford SVT-4!
Terveisin Porista!
I like that you like this amp but as stated before, only 3 tubes in the pre and 1200 w bridged at 4 ohms. Other than that, good video!

I just picked one up yesterday and trying to figure it out. I’m seeing that you need a ‘special’ cable to run bridged.
Yeah, it's a real bummer that Ampeg stopped shipping the necessary cable with the amp a while back.
Damn good tutorial.
I use this same amp, it's solid
hi, excellent review, but what about the cabinets?, watts, ohms?
Regards from Chile
To loud for at home use I take it?
Yes, I'd say so. 😊
