Huge congratulations! You haven't just got a new home, you've got a new life to look forward to. The hard work will be more manageable for a defined time period. Keep your eyes on the prize!
OMG!!! Congrats on the forever home in Sweden!!! So exciting@! I cannot wait to see the next step of the journey! That 1000 sq house and garage with solar panels and new heating and sauna and lake with 30 acres would be 7-8 million here in Massachusetts. How fantastic is that land and dock and water front?! Go go Go! I've been playing with firecalc app and I was playing this morning, and figured out if i leave teaching at 20 years and we continue to live modestly on say 40k income + the 18k pension - (which will be a RAISE compared to what we live on now), I can take 150k from my nest egg for down payment on a house and we still have 97% chance of success without any extra income for 45 year retirement!
Congratulations Rebecca!! I am already retired and financially independant (77 years old) but still watch your videos and cheer you on. I came here to say what others have already said. Life is short and as we age, hard work gets harder!! Call it done when you are ready, listen to your heart and you will know. Thank you for thinking of Rollo as well. I just said goodbye to my 14 year old Bichon. It's hard no matter how long you have them. I shall continue to watch your journey and be your best cheerleader!!
Thank you so much!! And yes, I’ll always put Rollo first. 🥰 He’s a family member too after all. If I had to guess, I would think he’ll still be healthy enough to travel in a couple years, but of course it’s impossible to know for sure. But considering time is limited with him, that’s even more motivation to keep going with the two job and get free sooner.
Wow!! That home and property are AMAZING! I very rarely comment but I’ve been following your journey for years. I remember you taking us around and looking at land in the mountains. This really does seem like something you’ve manifested for yourself 😍
Couldn’t be happier for you. The house is amazing, and that land! And the water, and the trees, and the dock, it’s all just incredible. I think you have a doable timeline; I know it will be really, really difficult and at times you may doubt your ability to hang in there, but the prize at the end of this two year journey is that incredible quality of life for the rest of your life. We’ve all been fools for lesser things! You can do this, you will do this, and two years from now you’ll be so thankful you did. I’m cheering you on and can’t wait to see the updates. What an amazing turn of events, your manifestations materialized and you're well on your way to the finish line. Congratulations! You've got this.
Ok I'm only 7 mins into the video but I have to pause to start work lol but man I just wanted to say how happy I am for you. Now working two jobs will be very easy to do bc you have a huge WHY!! I can't wait to watch this journey unfold I hope you share all the details along the way as I feel like there may be a bonus to doing that in today's age.
I appreciate that! And you are SO correct! This house is all the motivation I need to make it through the next couple years. I’m sure work will be hard at times, but this two-year window I’ve given myself is going to come faster than I think. I just know it. 🔥🙌🏻
You are right, life is short and if there is a way for you and your husband to combine finances and have you retire earlier then YES definitely do it 😁 The house looks awesome by the way
Congrats, your new home looks amazing. I could really imagine sitting on the dock and reading a good book in my early retirement. I can imagine the pressure is off with the finding a forever home, now it’s just power on with the FIRE. Huge motivation
Im speechless too! Im so happy for you. What a wonderful property!! Congratulations! You are going to be so happy in your lakeside home with your loving husband. It is all coming together for you now.
Thank you so much! It really, really is. Sometimes I just stop and think… is this really my life right now? Sure, I’m in the middle of working myself to death right now. But this… this light at the end of the tunnel is so amazing. I would have never pictured anything like this to even be a possibility for me. I’m just… in awe, really.
I love this!🎉 My partner and I have been planning for FI for 10+ years. We have our forever home in Puerto Rico and we plan to reach FI in approximately five years. I looked forward to watching your videos as We document our final five years of living in the USA 💗
@@QuesttoFIRE There is no way we could stay in the USA and retire early. We are fortunate enough to have great 401ks and with the sale of our primary home in 5 years we will be able to take those profits live off them for 8 years then start our withdrawals and wait to what whatever will be left over from SS. Things can always change, but this is our plan in 2024!💗 Keep telling your story. It will help others.
It’s a amazing looking property, 2 full time jobs for 2 years seem like a hard grind but you seem so determined to get there I know you will. You are truly inspiring.❤
355k is expensive AF for that property in Sweden, you can almost find that in NC for the same price...that's why it stayed on Market for over a month...
I agree time is precious. we have had a couple of close to the family deaths. And Im really really motivated to just dominate these options trading to use the income for retiring as soon as possible. Hi, Mungohlewis here had to change my google account, as you can see my new user name is very similar. Firstly, congrats on the house and 30 acres, and a lake is incredible (did they throw in the tractor and the boat as well?), I imagine it will look amazing in all seasons. As someone who has worked 2 jobs at the same time for nowhere near as long as 2 years, it is very mentally, emotionally and physically draining. Also, you have to bear in mind that as far as age goes, this is the oldest you have been, but also the youngest you will ever be at the same time. Therefore, I am glad you will be reviewing the situation after 1 year. Also, have you thought about having some cash reserves, so that you are not immediately selling off your portfolio, the minute you get to Sweden to pay your half of the living expenses, giving the money you've recently invested a chance to grow and just in case the market is down when you FIRE.
Yes to all! I am definitely going to build up some cash reserves. And when I sell my house before the move to Sweden, that should give me all the cash I need to live on while I make the move and get settled over there.
Nice job on the house. Homerun. A couple questions on your FI number. They say to base your number on your expenses and not your income. With that in mind, have you thought about what a Swedish budget would look like? Second question. Is your number based on you being able to pay 100% of those expenses or somewhere around half of them? Just wondering if maybe you are closer than you think. Love your content, by the way.
For sure! And you’re 100% right. We’re basing my FI number off of what we expect spending to be in Sweden. And since we’re married, costs will be split, so that helps. However, we’re both cautious people, and we like to have a security buffer… and that security blanket is constantly tugging against the desire to just say “eff it” and declare myself lean FI. I could do that… but I’m just not 100% comfortable with it, and I don’t think it’s fair to the hubs either. So, I keep going. 😊
Clearly I was going off Midwestern pricing. That's a great deal for sure though. I want to get a home abroad. I have a house that's paid off already, but it's simply too cold in the winter. Thinking to keep it as a rental property later on. A bit of income to help with FIRE.

Yeah I’ve heard… that’s why we get a LOT of transplants here in NC. Real estate here is rising, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still way cheaper than other parts of the country.
