Dark Red feels like a song about a person in a toxic relationship. This person knows something is wrong and that they'll likely get hurt because of it, but their partner manipulates and gaslights them to the point they become dependent on the partner. The song evokes such feelings of unease, doubt, and entrancing romance that it's terrifying to come to the realization that this isn't uncommon. Many people are in relationships like this. Maybe I'm just pointing out the obvious or digging too deep. At first I thought it was a song about anxiety in relationships, but it's cool developing my own interpretation of the meaning by watching the MV for the first time.
That’s reading a lot into it. I don’t hear anything from the lyrics that suggests abuse. I think your first thought is more accurate and it’s about anxiety. The video adds to the narrative, but it’s definitely not in the lyrics themselves.
You're totally right, this is the song of my life now. My ex gf broke with me, we were together for like 5y and I still love her, and she knows it. I mean, she broke 1 month ago probably cause I earn less in my job. We live separete, but we're still chating and hanging out sometimes, cause she is keep saying that I'm and will be the only love in her life. She still wants our sex and all, but refuses to get back in the relationship. I feel used phisically and mentally but I can't get out of this.
Just jumped into the Steve Lacy rabbit hole here recently when I discovered the Gemini Rights album completely by accident . This guy is a prime example of someone making music simply for the love of the craft and making a beautiful sound . No way I could love it anymore than I do currently. I discovered his music right at the correct time and it has helped me through so much here lately through these winter months . Thanks Steve you are so inspiring and refreshing .
anybody notice that steve is trapped in the trunk of the car with a white lighter ...white lighters are unlucky and steve continuously says something bad is about to happen just saying this man is a genius with visuals..
The real history to the white lighter myth and why they are unlucky is based on four famous and revolutionary musicians of the second half of the 20th century. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrex, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain were all left-handed, all died at the age of 27, and all their autopsies reported that a white bic lighter was found in their pockets. This is why it is said that white lighters are unlucky. So if you are 27 and left-handed, don’t use a white bic lighter, you will die.
OG.TEZRIN yep. Same way Frank Ocean said “No white lighters til I fuck my 28th up”in his song “Nights”. He didn’t want to be a part of the 27 club so he wasn’t taking any chances using a white lighter.

That's sad. I really hope you'll get there one day!
I still find it hard to believe that people say our generations music is terrible
joseph twitty That's because they are listening to the wrong stuff.
msluvlee717 exactly!!! There’s SO much incredible modern music out there. You just have to dig deeper
People say that every generation
It’s cause generally all the shitty generic ass music is the only popular music and consequently those people who say our music is terrible are only really exposed to that music...people listen to whatever is mainstream even if zero effort is put into it smh
That’s because whatever is on the radio is terrible.
Your music brings out an emotion out of me that I haven't felt in forever. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Karla Andrea saaaame like his music really does something to me
Karla Andrea literally took the the words right out of my mouth

Ryeale Britt NxWorries (Anderson .paak and Knxwledge ) Kail Uchis etc
Everyone should listen to this at least once a day, masterpiece!
I remember watching this when it was first released. It was a late night in my dorm room and I couldn’t sleep so I was scrolling through twitter when Dark Red showed up on my timeline. I was obsessed with both songs for months. It makes me so happy that Steve finally got the recognition he deserves. It makes me even happier that there’s people enjoying this for the first time! Please cherish it. I cannot tell you how many memories were made with this entire demo tape in the background the summer of 2017.
cool 😱
Bro same my sister started listening to it then I started to like it and I started to get addicted to it even today I still listen to it everyday

This man has PURE MUSICAL TALENT.
There is so much half-assed trash music out there today, but Steve Lacy gives me hope for the future
Notice how her kiss made everything stop... calmed his mind. Love the Dark Red video.
First off! I'm not even functioning properly with the release of your song series and listening to it over and over- NUMEROUS OF TIMES- I came to a conclusion "Ryd" was my favorite tune and now there's a video?!?!!! Keep the surprises coming man ✨
His melodies could impregnate a dude
Erik Giovani check out my cover? It's a small one and it's my first. Please give feedback

Wondered if ide find any Blood Meridian Fans here lol
Yooo
6 songs ain't enough ☹️☹️☹️
Facts I was under the impression he was dropping a full album
Ataraxia same fam, same
its a demo. its in the project's name
Daniel we obviously know that now we are talking about before release because he addressed it as a "project"
+HVMHAM You act like I was complaining I got 6 songs. I'm just stating that I had my hopes up and he left me wanting more music. Wanting to hear more from an artist isn't a negative, if anything its a testament to the quality of their work.
I like RYD, but damn ilove me some RED DARK, something bad is about to happen to me
Ryd is better in my opinion it just gives suck good vibes
