My entire class laughed at that

When Poe was two years old, his mother passed away, and his father had already abandoned the family. He was taken in as a foster child by the Allan family. He was writing poetry from about the time that he was 13. He kept writing all the time; he worked very, very hard in his writing and wrote constantly. In 1826, Poe enrolled at the University of Virginia.

I think Edgar Alan Poe was ahead of his time and I (to this day) really enjoy his works. He puts you in the time period when your reading his story's and you actually feel like your there, its not often an author can pull you into the time and period in which it was written always loved his work
Edgar Allan Poe is a criminal. He barely wrote any of his stories, he's an identity theif
If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered.

Poe is one of my favorite authors, and deservedly so. He was a literary genius. A tragedy he died so young. Imagine what else he might have been able to accomplish had he lived 40 years more?
imagine having to watch this for a ela assignment, like if you are doing the same or if you came to the comments because u were bored.

During his lifetime, he barely made a living from his writing. Poe published some of his most famous short stories in his 1840 collection: 'Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque'. He wrote some of his stories using the first person, and talking about the use of opium, so people assumed that he doubled in drugs. The stories were so creepy, they were ghost stories taken to such a brilliant extreme that people thought he had to be a little bit strange himself.
Thank you, I couldn't make out what she was saying.
I wish Edgar Allen Poe was my dad, cuz then i would have been born in an earlier time period and would be dead now

Ela ruined poetry and writing for me.
i can see why people disgusted by the fact poe was married to 13 yo girl. but in that period, something like that was normal. let's just appreciate his masterpiece instead of bothering his past life.
His life story breaks my heart it’s so tragic he lost his mother so young his foster parent left him nothing giving to his children… left him out.
His love wife died he totally lost his mind.
Then drank, gambled, had meanless affairs, went into deep dark poverty.
He died just before he was going to marry again.
beautiful. So much respect for this author.
My favorite writer of all time! Hope I can become at least half the writer he was.
Keen Rick.I have both volumes of the complete poems & stories of Poe on my book shelf. They are an 83 reproduction of the 46 original. One of my favorite writers would be Sir Doyle.
RIP Edgar Allan Poe.

I rly like Edgar allan poe. Im a big fan of horror...i like guys like HP lovecraft and stephen kings stories the most. But in terms of writing skills, i belive Poe is one of the best horror authors ever !
Edgar Allan Poe secretly married his 13 years old cousin and then in 1836 publicly married her in a more open ceremony.
he loved her very very much they lived together always until she died of tuberculous when she was run 20 I guess.
Poe's primary occupation as a writer was as a literary critic he worked at several newspapers and literary magazines and he had quite a reputation for being a harsh critic.
❤his story as a struggling writer.but never gave up.
Who’s here from covid-19 hw?
Yup!
Edgar Allan Poe's legacy in American literature is very detectable in all of the mystery dramas and stories we have and all the kind of horror and vampire work that we see that there is that trace of this sort of horror and mystery that Poe was able to harness in his writing. Poe's an American icon, I think he's more than a writer. Even today, more than a hundred and fifty years after he died, everybody loves Edgar Allan Poe.
Thank you this saved me so much time to do notes for my English class😃😄
On October 7th, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died at the age of 40, under mysterious circumstances. Poe's death, maybe one of the most bizarre things about his life. He left Virginia on his way to New York, disappeared. A week later he was found on the streets of Baltimore. We don't have a single piece of information about what he was doing.
He married his 13 year old cousin
Literally what
white people...
here comes the sjw trash
learn about that century jerk
in a big part of africa people marry with 10 years old girls, and that was a different century in america actually until early 20th it was normal to marry soon like 15 years old
Chill fam
He went into debt, he gambled, tried to pay off those debts and found himself in even greater debt, and ultimately [he] had to redraw from the University.
In 1830, Poe enrolled at West Point. After West Point, Poe turned to writing full time, and lived in a number of east coast cities before settling down in Richmond, Virginia.
Poe invented detective fiction when he wrote The murders in the Rue Morgue in 1841. Murders in the Rue Morgue really deserves to be called the first detective story: it started the whole tradition of the detective fiction. The Raven, which was published in 1845, was his huge breakthrough and became a big best seller. Poe's career very much went up and down until he really hit The Raven, and that poem was known by, it seems, everyone in the world. It had an enormous press.
Oh, maybe I should have said so. Because I teach English and I usually look for video´s transcripts to help my students understand better after they've seen it. And so do many teachers, I think. That´s why I posted it.
Thanks a lot, it helped me !
Poe was one of the most brilliant authors of his time and beyond.. Unfortunately he was much underappreciated and became a serious alcoholic..the way he died wa also appalling and sad.. Thank God his legacy is alive and well to this day and appreciated by tens of Millions of people all around the world
Hi! I found your video very interesting and prepared a class based upon it. Here's the transcript if anybody wants it:
MINI BIO - Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe was a master of the macabre, he wrote horror, he wrote poetry, criticism, fiction, mystery; he was a master of suspense. Edgar Allan Poe, called by many 'The father of the detective story', was born on January 19th, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts.

Bruh I can’t with this project ong
You never know WHAT is gonna come through that door
Janet Malcolm wrote a great biography on Poe and what came to light was Poe was a serious alcoholic and went on benders which lasted days, where he returned to his female home penniless and in rags, my hypothesis is fairly simple and obvious: he went on a major bender, sold his clothes to fund continuing drinking and unfed un-slept and in a state of delirium tremons died in hospital. this is not unusual for alcoholics, days long benders resulting in death.
thanks man

At the end of that week, he was found in a tavern, ill, drunk, and was taken to a hospital. It turned out he was wearing clothes that didn't belong to him, and a couple of days later, he died in a delirium. Nobody knows exactly what killed him.
Short summary of Edgar Allan Poe
I'm born my dad leaves the family and 2 years later my mom dies. :)
I'm a foster now and I start writing at 13 years old I worked very hard to write a two stanza poem.
Seems that I'm 26 years old and I'm at the right age to marry so how about my 12 year old cousin.
my very young cousin and I get married publicly now and I saw a lot of people at the wedding, most of them were from Alabama idk why though.

Edgar Allan Poe secretly married his 13 year old cousin, and then in 1836, publicly married her in a more open ceremony. He loved her very, very much; they lived together always until alas, she died of tuberculosis when she was, I guess around 20. Poe's primary occupation as a writer was as a literary critic. He worked at several newspapers and literary magazines, and he had quite a reputation for being a harsh critic, one of his editors called him the 'Tomahawk Man'.

AYO POE!? NOT UR 13 YEAR OLD COUSIN 😭😭😭😭
Good within the limitations of a 3 1/2 minute time-slot. Only real criticism is that it implies that Poe spent most of his productive life working out of Richmond, VA which is not the case. By far the majority of the work that he is famous for was produced while he was living in Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. In the case of New York he spent the entire last 5 years of his short life in New York.
This guy should have been born in Alabama considering the kinds of people he feels attracted to

Edgar Alan Poe was a devout Christian and he wrote beautiful poems that weren't macabre and Christian hymns. He published what the public wanted. He married his young cousin to prevent her from being sent away because no one was willing to care for her.

What is Allan Poe considered nowadays, according to the video?

If his stories are so good why didn't he receive much money for them? His work was too brilliant to receive so little
