    I loved when Mike sang. The show was on during holidays, I would watch with my grandma. She too loved when he sang.

    Thank you so much for unloading this wonderful Christmas present to us Guiding light fans. Its so great to see the Bauer family before Pam Long wrote off and killed off most of them before she turned sweet and goofy Floyd into a killer and Katie became a dayplayer. This is the GL i remember and loved not the trainwreck Ellen and David turned it into..

      I really like Hillary and Katie and Floyd. I miss them. The show got bad when it became the Reva Shane show

      Ha...everyone's a critic. I think the show became bad when they began focusing too much on the offspring and aging the babies born on screen in the mid to late '90s into teenagers and young adults in the early 2000s. I know they rushed Alan-Michael's age...born on screen in 1981 to Alan and Hope but transformed into a teenager in 1988...yes, that was outlandish...but it was an exception not the rule back then. The producers/writers wrote off a lot of long standing characters in the early 2000s...or, in some instances, they kept some long running characters for background scenery and party scenes while pushing teen angst to the forefront.

      @@ACcountryFan I watched the show from 91 until 95. It had some mystery, fun, and romance. Then it just became a shell. The murder of Nadine was the last straw after they killed off Maureen Bauer. I will never understand the idea that killing off characters, especially popular leads, draws interest.

    Thank you so much! This was very heart-warming-- I especially loved the hospital scenes with the children. I didn't know Philip and Rick were already on the show at that time. I remember when digital watches were first becoming popular, I guess they were pretty expensive at that time, but it's still funny to see the reactions to Jackie's gift :)

      I remember getting a watch like that shortly after this time. Freddie (Rick) was around all during the '70s. Phillip joined in November 1977. It's nice to see them and Christina (Blake) knowing how important they would all be to the show as adults. Watching the Bauer family reminds me of being a kid watching soaps with my own family.

    Wonderful scenes. So nice to see all these interconnected characters. I love the little bit early on with Hillary at the Bauers. And all the complicated relationships, so ambiguous and poignant.
    I love the relationship between Jackie and Philip at this time. You can see how much she meant to him and how it broke her heart to just be his "aunt." Cindy Pickett is such a unique actress, with kookiness and pathos at the fore.
    Did Elizabeth know that Philip was Jackie's son at this point?
    Poor Rita. I wonder where Eve was. Ross wasn't around either.
    Having Lainie, Rita, and Holly all pining for Ed was a little much. I guess that's why Lainie left soon after this.
    Everything with the puppet show is terrific comic relief - natural, not forced, warm.
    Hard to believe how much the show had changed by Christmas 1980.

    I'm always a little bit stunned by Cindy Pickett (Jackie). She doesn't look like a "typical soap actress" at all, and she makes some mighty strange and interesting choices with the way she delivers her lines. It's really hard for me to take my eyes off her when she's in a scene ..... The woman who plays Elizabeth (Lezlie Dalton?) sure knows how to pant and gasp and breathe like she's dying while delivering her lines ;-)

    • @mthivier
      @mthivier 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, Lezlie Dalton used to annoy me. She always seemed like she was trying to come off as the sexy ingenue, despite it frequently being completely inappropriate for the scene.

      @@mthivier Cindy came on and spent about a year as a long-haired brunette. GL had a lot of strking brunettes in the '60s and '70s, and she was one of them.

  • @mthivier
    @mthivier 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I believe the old lady sitting next to Jackie used to be on frequently during crowd scenes, courtroom scenes, etc. I guess the actress was available to them when they needed an extra, and things like that added a bit of realism for me. I grew up in a small town, and you did tend to see the same people repeatedly around town like that.

    • @ACcountryFan
      @ACcountryFan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you referring to Holly? She's the one with red hair seated next to Max Chapman. Standing behind them is Jackie. There's nobody sitting next to her. Holly (Maureen Garrett) was one of the main characters on the show throughout the '70s and then from the late 1980s onward...until around the mid 1990s time frame. The older woman in the scene is Ed and Mike's mother, Bert, played by Charita Bauer. She'd been with the show since it's radio days in the 1950s. She'd been playing Bert Bauer since 1949...and she remained with the show until 1984.

    If this was the last years of the show, there would be a bomb hidden, a kidnapper or possibly a murderer waiting to strike plus Reva or her clone organizing the party while everyone stands around contemplating hurting one another. They killed the show with a loss of the human element.

    It is so strange to see Christina in a scene as a little girl followed by Justin in another scene. She would later become his daughter in law very briefly and later (until Ross died) his sister in law for nearly 15 years. They never got to interact and I wish they had. Strange and fascinating

    its something that when Ed was talking about the baby Jesus Rita was very pregnant and listening to Ed as if she knew that her baby could bring them back together, unfortunately she lost the baby because of her association with Roger Thorp, if she hadn't insisted on being alone and moving into her own apartment perhaps Ed would have taken her to the circus Bazaar with Christina visa versa Holly who u would think would be with Peter, instead of Roger kidnapping Chrissi he kidnap Rita which lead to him leaving a tied up Rita in that cabin in the woods to somehow kick over a lit candle trying to break free and luckily Mike Ed and the police figured out where he was keeping rita but they got there to late and that caused the death of her son who turned out to be Ed's baby afterall.

  • @mthivier
    @mthivier 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sad, Rita sitting alone in the back like that. Not sure why they didn't have Eve go to the church with her, but I guess they wanted to depict her as being estranged from Ed, pregnant and all alone.

    • @darnellanders8768
      @darnellanders8768 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes very sad but it was what she chose visa versa at least remaining in the lovely house, she decided to move in an apartment, i remember watching a scene where she was standing at a bus stop in the snow storm waiting for the bus, Roger was scoping her out then and it was scary but the bus showed up just in time. due to her being alone at the circus bazaar where she was helping Bert sale game tickets she was so nice and seem to have had fun even ran into Ed Holly and Christina, Rita and Christina were getting along so well , then shortly before she could leave she spotted Roger by his voice, he then kidnapped her leaving her in the cabin in the woods tied up only to try and free herself by kicking over ait candle that started a fire, luckily Ed Mike and the police figured out where she was in time to save her but it was to late for her unborn son who turned out to be Ed's son afterall, i know how it hurts to lose a son, i lost a son who was premature at thirteen weeks due to a heart defect, we named him Devin. i was only 18 when this scene aired back in 1979 December.
