Been coming back to this video for years. Not only the best cover of this song I’ve ever heard, but reading through the comments I’m realizing she’s had the same effect on many others. Literally brings you to tears and can’t explain it. She’s special in a way that maybe shouldn’t have an explanation. 33M views at the time of writing this while Fleetwood Mac’s official music video on YT has 81M. Absolutely, but mics are not only used for amplifying sound. Being a former performer myself, I’m very accustomed to being in a studio and having every nuance of a song tweaked to sound like perfection. She’s also not using an electronic guitar, back-up singers, and fancy stage props to distract us. I get the echo chamber that the hollowness of the subway creates-trust me, I live in New York City. All I’m saying, in essence, is that we’re getting a taste of the most purest form of entertainment...for free.
Mind blowing; the people who are idling standing/walking by seemingly annoyed or disinterested have no idea that this is an epic live performance that will go viral and later generate +33M views.

That is to say that I could play the song she's covering. Are you asking if I could exactly duplicate her idiosyncratic, herky-jerk guitar playing? To that I'd say that I don't know. I've never before tried to emulate something that didn't sound good.
Perhaps you and the others on this thread are wowed at her ability to strum really fast? I'll grant you that she can make her pick go up and down very quickly. If that constitutes musical greatness in your mind, you've found your girl.
I understand fully that there is such a thing as 'interpreting' a song, when doing a cover version. 'Making it your own' so to speak. And I do that to a degree when I do cover a song. Part of that job is to make the song recognizable, which this woman barely does. I've heard that song a thousand times and she was halfway though it before I could tell what it was.
And unlike the claim of the video's title, she did NOT hold the 'audience' spellbound. They all walked right on by, even the women who threw a dollar in the bucket. No eye contact. Nothing.
What this comment thread is, is a bunch of people joining in a delusion. Praising this amateur player to high heaven, as if she's the second coming. Which has probably been very confusing to her.
I have hosted open mic nights hundreds of times in Los Angeles, and am quite well versed in what a visionary looks like in her initial phases. And what it looks and sounds like when a person of modest gifts is giving it a good try, but mostly missing the mark.
But her 'interpretation' of the song and her idiosyncratic style is precisely why people like this. The rhythm is lovely.
Generally speaking, I understand where you are coming from. Playing a guitar fast doesn't make it good. In fact, most of the time it can make it much worse!
Not in this instance though.
It's quite funny really because at the time that someone showed me this version they asked if I could play it like she does. I had been drinking so I thought I made a decent fist of it but in reality it is quite difficult to sustain the rhythm at that pace whilst yelling incoherently.

Well, since you asked... I like the song, and I can play it myself. It is a delicate song, and I just don't think this variation on it really fits the mood of the song. Innovation can be great, but not always. Maybe she should try playing a Led Zeppelin or a Who song in this frenetic acoustic style, it might work. Not for Landslide, though. Not for me. JMO.

Somebody tell me why gifted artists like this get no recognition while we're forced to listen to the commercial clowns daily?
It's actually pretty simple; the music industry has perfected their systems so well like a well oiled machine that they know exactly what they're looking for. They're looking for repeated success to get a return on their investment. People like her have to work 100X harder to become successful in the industry by creating a following already and be able to show a good record of already producing assets (songs, albums, etc) Only then do labels invest since there's proof of success. Also Rock is like 5-10% of the industries source of income at the moment so that makes it even harder.

‼️I just finished watching a video where Ashley said that she made absolutely no money from this viral video. She didn't even know that the guy was video taping her performance. She said that she found out thru her friends that she had gone viral about a month after this video was posted. She reached out to the man who video taped her to ask him if she could use the video. He wanted 3-4 thousand dollars apparently to let her use the vid. Omg!! That was so hurtful to hear come out of her mouth.
