    The .1 are the best 996s.
    The 3.6 liter engine in the .2 is more prone to IMSB failure and bore scoring than the early 3.4 liter engines with the double row IMS bearing and longer rods/shorter stroke.
    👍

      As a 996.1 owner I can’t say you are wrong.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

      I agree. You can "cure" the IMSB problem, my choice being a self installed cylindrical bearing, but bore scoring is like a cancer and the cure cost so much more.

    If a 996.1 is maintained correctly, it may be better for certain buyers. For example, I really appreciate having lower weight and a cable throttle. Also, I love my runny eggs. I do wish i had cup holders however!

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couldn’t agree with you more, of course I own a 996.1 and I did end up getting an aftermarket cup holder so all is right in the world.

      @Our Ride Life Oh, do tell what aftermarket cup holders you have. It's my only complaint about my Rain Forest Green 996.1

    i have a 996 turbo. but jay's reasons points out more on why you should get a turbo rather than a 996.2

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Turbo (or GT car) is the one to get if you can afford it as prices have risen and a well maintained 6-speed will cost about $50K now (you can potential find a Tiptronic for closer to $40K).
      Enjoy your 996 Turbo as often as you can.

    He’s right I have 2 boxsters an everyone I mean everyone says is that’s a cool looking 911 you have there I say thank god for the early 996 models

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I had my 986 Boxster I had a few people that thought it was a 911. I may not have bothered to correct them.

    Jay,
    The MK2 only looks like sally from pixar cars, I notice you missed the reference.
    Had the GT1 been a road going mass produced car it would have clearly taken the widow maker name.
    thankfully you agree the lights look better on the MK1, as for the fried egg reference, anyone that fries an egg that looks like that needs to start buying better eggs or leaning to fry them, (that's always puzzled me)
    And 996.2 following should always tip their heads to the original water cooled model not try to criticize it, that should be left for the VW made cars.
    The MK2 does do very well in aftermarket bearing sales though.

    good fun to watch . what about the mod 2 , opening the hud when the battery is flat just saying. keep the good work up prices are rising in oz

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good point. I believe the manual has you use jumpers on the fuse box to open the hood, but I also believe there is an emergency cord under the car near the bumper (but I have an early 996 myself, so haven’t had to do that myself).

    You missed the car which really made the head lights?? I’m disappointed
    Didn’t Sally from the film ‘Cars’ have the same head lights.? 😀

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do have a point about Sally. The fact that Disney will keep her as a 996.2 may play into values rising as children that grew up watching Cars are able to afford the cars they wanted when they were younger.

    Best option of all is to find a few thousand more and buy a 997.1

  • @shed911cookiesgarage2
    @shed911cookiesgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think the 996.1 is the better car, smaller engine yes, but it has a much smoother acceleration curve and the early cars with cable throttle are the best. I also prefer the headlights on the 996.1. For the only thing the 996.2 has that I would find handy is the glovebox, but I can live ok with out that, 996.1 for me, that 3.4 is the sweetest engine, better IMS and less prone to bore score.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. As a 996.1 owner I think you are correct, of course Jay may not think exactly the same.

    Its absolutely strange to place a price regarding a 911 996 Gen 1 or Gen 2. its all about the history of the car. In the real world you can obtain a standerd 996 from 1997 for 35000k and a Gen 2 for 20000k. All depending watt the status if the car is.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point. The only other big difference is the engine displacement that really would affect the price.

    996.1 all day long. Better engine (less issues) great original design the .2 light design not great and are more about not looking like a boxer. I believe if the boxer never shared the 996.1 front most people who currently own a 996 wouldn’t be able to afford one These are epic cars and all the fried egg nonsense allows ordinary people afford extra ordinary cars. Ps would love a cup holder and glove box but love my high rev 3.4

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a 996.1 owner you won’t hear an argument from me. I put an aftermarket cup holder in mine, so I’m now just missing a glove box. And that isn’t too bad.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

    Get a 996.2 if you want to drive your car at night....with a 996.1 a couple of candles would be more effective at lighting the road a head.

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      996.2 isn’t much better!

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be why some headlight modifications are popular with the 996 in general.

      led bulbs fit perfectly on. 1 and. 2 i actually ditched the hid and converted to leds, cooler, brighter and uses less power

    • @shed911cookiesgarage2
      @shed911cookiesgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      or you could just install LED bulbs and then agree that the 996.1 is better :)

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or better yet, keep the 996.2 and add a 996.1 to have the 3.4 and 3.6 option.

    C4s is an overpriced 996 in a frock.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does command a premium and in a lot of ways you are correct. Underneath it is essentially a 996.2 C4 with a Turbo body kit. Prices of the C4S are rising at least partly due to the rise of 996 Turbo prices, so many go for the C4S for the Turbo look.
      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    • @shed911cookiesgarage2
      @shed911cookiesgarage2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the C4S is the wide body version for those that can't afford a proper wider body turbo
