About Dune:
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Him and Chani looking at his army on Caladan was such a beautiful shot
Its not caladan, can’t be caladan. Fremen have never stepped into caladan, it was forbidden by Paul’s mother, Jessica. Caladan is the only planet that escaped the purge
@@KermitTheArchitect it was just a vision tho so that doesn’t actually happen. In his visions he sees possible futures. If you look closely at that scene Jamis is in the background which is impossible because he’s dead.

0:56 Do you hear it? That transition from inspiring to foreboding? That is the moment where the audience discovers what kind of story this really is. The moment where the thin facade of the Hero's Journey is shattered. The moment where Paul Atreides' true destiny is revealed in all its horrifying glory: A golden path, illuminated by a universe in flames.
This part of Dune's lore was heavily borrowed by George Lucas in creating Darth Vader backstory, he did ultimately lead humanity the right path but not before killing billions.
I love how in the film Paul looked almost inspired by it at first and then his expression changed as he realized that this wasn’t a happy vision.
@@neonoires That’s the power of an excellent actor(Timotheé Chalamet) under a terrific direction(Denis Villeneuve)
The horror of terrible purpose is realized
To be fair a lot of heroes' deeds are horrifying glories, DUNE is just especially honest and open about it.
Truely the saddest momment of the film. Paul in the battle looked so dead inside.
Yes so happy to see it following the books
@@linusmaximilian6568is that how he was described in the books?
@@Blendervidoes not at all lol. Herbert skips most of the Action scenes, but you get a sense, that he somehow lost his soul

"I'M POINTING THE WAY" 🗣🗣🗣🗣
I was awestruck seeing Paul Muad'Dib and Chani looking down at the cheering and bloodthirsty Fedaykins with the Atreides banners while "Holy War" was playing on the background.
Yeah, that was a great shot, along with the eery music, a premonition for something very ominous to happen.
That image is just perfection for people who have read the book
Definitely one of the most memorable moments for me. It hit hard.

Paul's horror after witnessing the Jihad that will happen is one of the most intense moments in the movie. Here, he sees how the universe and the people on it will change and suffer because of his presence.
That was one of my favorite moments in the film. Ferguson's heartbroken expression was brutal.
and Chalamets acting was brilliant
but then she push it into motion in part 2 is also heart breaking

“Dreams are messages from the deep”
For the book readers… This song should’ve been called Terrible Purpose.
Maybe they’ll rework the theme for part two to fit more of that vibe
Yes!
Its going to be in part 2 for sure
Dreadful purpose would sound even better
@@Schyderap but terrible purpose is in the book, you should go read it
This theme was played during the time when Paul started to have "visions" into the future of a great holy war in Dune part 1. Unsurprisingly, he was petrified on what he saw that he even screamed at Lady Jessica for making Paul a "freak" thanks to the Bene Gesserits. Practically he told himself he will never allow himself to start a holy war with the name of his father as a martyr and the banner of House Atreides being chanted by fanatics. Though, in Dune part 2, this exact theme played when he confronted the Fremen council in the south after he consumed the water of life. The once honourable Paul Atreides that vowed to never let evil consume him, has now been fully consumed with rage and revenge by the prophet Usual muad'dib, fully convincing the fremen fanatics that a great holy war is upon them and it is time to spill blood under the Atreides flag. That scene was a powerful moment.
what was the song for dune 2 that references this song
@42knight Southern Messiah is the soundtrack used in Dune 2 that is used when Paul arrives at the South to meet with the Fremen council. But, when Paul decided to confront the council that he is the Messiah, the soundtrack "Holy War" from Dune 1 starts to play.
Also reused with the first shot on the Harkonnens in Part 2.
@@asch7906 Yeah they did! That scene was very epic too. Loved the world building.
@@42knight Eclipse. It's a variation of this soundtrack. It played during the opening scene of part two whereas this played during Paul's speech to the Fremen war council.
I like that Zimmer was able to rework some of his Dark Phoenix stuff, most of which wasn't even properly used in the film, into this while still giving it a more unique twist.
Yessssss
Hanz Zimmer had a score for Dark Phoenix??
Damn,I feel like that that version sounds better.
@@dominiqueodom3099 the dark phoenix movie score is made by him fully. he just also had a whole album of unused tracks.

I hope an even more intense version of this plays at the end of the next movie, as it shows how much of a "hero" Paul is.
That would be nice. But, then you remember that WB is the studio that is distributing Dune. Not sure how much control Villeneuve has on this project but I wouldn't trust WB to be smart.
@jbvader721 tbf, they let Villeneuve show Paul's vision of the Jihad in part 1, and for the many interviews he's been saying that his interpretation is more of a warning about Paul and heroes than past adaptations which have leaned more towards the happily ever after kind of end. Don't forget trailer 2 where they explicitly said that the visions were horrifying because Paul gained control, not lost it.
But who knows at this point. I hope we weren't misled.
@@Rauruatreides Like I said, it's WB and I don't trust them one bit. They're worse than Disney when it comes to studio interference.
This aged well
This aged freakin’ beautiful
when Paul and Chani from their spaceship look at fanatical Fedaykins gosh that scene was so powerful I get chills everytime I watch it.
" You either die a hero, Or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
Idk why I can’t stop listening to this soundtrack and this very scene when it’s so eerie and it makes my body feel some type of way. Such a great movie.
I know how you feel. I've been binging this score (both parts) for at least a month. I hear the "Holy War" motif throughout both parts. Symbolic of how the shadow of it was always there throughout the narrative and that there was nothing that could be done to stop it.
This one is insane. I love how it starts out soft but then becomes slightly more jarring as Paul realizes what he’s seeing, and then the Bene Gesserit whispers kick in, becoming increasingly louder before silencing and the music allows Paul to realize the full wait of what will happen to him and he can’t stop it. But then his mother overpowers the fear and finally lets Paul mourn his father.
0:40 i cheered in the cinema when the original theme came on

Probably my favorite OST from the two films
This is amazing! The atmosphere Zimmer creates here is insane, out of this world.
Not even a mode can describe those bass runs. It's like an even less stable Locrian. Magnificent.
It's a diminished scale
messiaen's second mode of limited transposition
the amount t that this theme is used in part 2 as Paul follows his path to bleeding the stars is just 💯
POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR PART 2 IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK
What keeps me hyped to see the second part is the final battle between the Fremen and Sardaukar. Man, about one million Fremen against the Emperor's finest soldiers, Dennis Villeneuve sure has a lot of work to do :-)

Paul's Mother: "Your Brother is Attacking The Great Houses"
Paul's Mother: "The Holy War Begins!"
"You did this to me"

I got chills dude, I wish they didn't change the word "jihad" though...
The amount of MENA erasure/minimizing in the recent Dune films has to be discussed and addressed more.
@@VictorIV0310 yeah making them space nazis and calling the wars “jihad” wouldn’t be controversial at all in the modern age

My dude texting from the grave
Absolute chills that this was the first song played in dune 2. Such an amazing sci fi movie.
And the Emperor said, nothing.
Duke Leto's portrait set on fire while this music is playing, on point!
My absolute favorite scene in the movie. So evocative and stirring. You can complain as much as you want about the CGI, the scene pulls it off through tone and especially is helped by this brilliant score.
0:01 you think you did well in the exam.
0:56 the teacher says almost everyone failed.
Paul''s Oppenheimer Moment
“and the emperor said… nothing”
I love how heavy that lands when it cuts to a sullen Shaddam just looking withdrawn. No words or over acting needed to convey how empty and hollow the man felt after issuing someone he considered a “son” to die with his entire family
That was Eclipse. It's a variation of this theme.
I must not fear, fear is the mind killer, fear is the little death that brings total obliteration, i will face my fear, i will permit it to pass over me and through me, and when it has gone i will turn the inner eye to see its path, where the fear has gone there will be nothing, only i will remain.
Hans Zimmer is out of this world, watched the movie yesterday in cinema, didn't want it to end, waiting for the next parts ❤
Dune Messiah's main theme
As the world descends into chaos this song is more powerful
I saw the movie at last yesterday, and I was blown away by the whole package. Speaking of this piece, I can say it is perfect as a main theme for Dune. The scene going with it really hypes me up for the upcoming chapter(s) of this saga.
"The holy war begins"

Always loved Hans but this must be one of his all time greatest pieces. Epicly haunting.
Well done! This is powerful. And Totoesque-Brian Eno style
When it finally happens I want this track to play with the horns louder and the whispering more in background
This sound is absolute masterpiece
To those thinking that Paul is a Hero, has never read the Books.
He never wanted this, but he has to anyways.
Like what his father said. A great leader doesn’t seek it, he is called upon.

The tracks 'Vast World' and 'Peter Denies Jesus' are reminiscent of the 1st minute part. Not sure if it's coincidental or just inspirational.
As written.
seeing what he sees in this scene it perfectly sets up why he becomes such a heretic in the later books: he NEVER wanted this and seeing how its basically already too late...the more he tries to reject the Golden Path the more he is drawn in
This song reminds me the spanish march songs of the Holy Week. Amazing ❤
When you realize the protagonist isnt a glorious hero that fixes everything, but is instead a man that will bring untold suffering to around 600 planets (90 of which were sterilized), the destruction of 40 religions, and caused 61 billion people to be either killed or wounded.

Nothing too loud, but still tasteful.
Playing this while using a self checkout kiosk so it knows its days are numbered
This movie, and specially this scene, reminded me of the movie "Hamlet"
Probably the original is based off of Hamlet.
I wonder if the movies won't say "Jihad" because of the negative association with the fundamentalist groups that used it? Granted, jihad just means "holy war," but even a newbie like me can see that Herbert used specific words and translations for a reason, which could be lost if only slightly by avoiding one of the words.
Jihad also refers to an internal struggle against a negative aspect of yourself.
I wish they called it a jihad like in the books, but I can understand why they changed it. People are already freaking out in the comments about how "Jihad is peaceful and it's Islamophobic to call what Paul does a jihad".
@@Leitis_Fella Is that so? I wasn't awared of that and it still feels like a holy war within :) peace
