    Loved the film. It truly stays with you. What a fascinating character Kelly Anne is. They really keep you guessing as to her intentions throughout the film. I guess only the final few minutes reveal her true intentions. One element that seems to be a definite clue as to her motive is the photo used as the image representing Guenièvre, Kelly Anne's virtual assistant. Guenièvre stands out as a narrative element throughout the film, but what fascinated me was the image that represents Guenièvre, which we see in the frame above Kelly Anne's computer. At first I thought it was one of the Romanov princesses, but a reverse image search lead me to the Victoria and Albert Museum collection and a photograph from 1872 by photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. It's the same image, and its title is "St. Agnes." Wikipedia result for St. Agnes leads to: "Agnes of Rome (c. 291 - c.  304) is a virgin martyr, venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church, as well as the Anglican Communion and Lutheran Churches. [...] Agnes is, among other patronages, a patron saint of girls, chastity, virgins, victims of sex abuse, and gardeners." From that, we gather that yes, in fact Kelly Anne's motivation was ultimately justice for the victims.

      That‘s a great research ! But I still asking myself if she lost track on this way to serve justice.

    • @educostanzo
      @educostanzo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I just pictured you doing research to find out this vital piece of the puzzle just like Kelly-Anne did in the movie, lol. That information really says a lot about the character, but as commented above, I also believe that she got a little over the edge. Fascinating character indeed.

    • @clavis_aurea
      @clavis_aurea 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@educostanzo i mean yeah she went some strange places for sure, like dressing up like the little girl again, breaking into the mother’s house & taking a selfie on the girl’s bed before leaving the flash drive, which i found to be instances that made me doubt her motivations. but yeah ultimately i guess the movie itself wraps it up in a way that does make her goal quite clear. but we still miss the part of what made her care so much to go to all these lengths. her personal history is actually remains unexplained.

    • @danielpatterson5189
      @danielpatterson5189 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      A couple things that struck me how much she resembles the victim in that uniform. Seems like that may have hit a chord with her. Also the level of obsession to me would hint to me at being a past victim herself. Also she has a bit of a hard edge to her which indicates someone who has learned the hard way to be cautious. Also did you notice the way her whole demeanour changed when the killer waved at her? After that demeanour change she went home and immediately typed in ready. Like a decision was made. She wanted a confirmation of his guilt in order to act. I get the sense a lot of her reactions were her sifting through the case to get answers for herself. Once she gets them she acts like a protector or a vigilante to attain justice. Ironically very much like St. Agnes.

    Thanks for the review, I'm definitely adding this to my watch-list. When I was in my early 20s, I served on a grand jury and we saw several cases a day, probably over 12 days total. Most were typical petty theft, drug possession, vandalism, etc, but every now and then we saw some really strange or disturbing cases and there was one in particular that was almost too much.
    I don't want to spell out exactly what it was due to the sensitive nature, but we listened to a police officer describe photos they had recovered and it was the most hair-raising, uncomfortable 15 minutes that I've ever experienced and I don't think I could possibly repeat out loud the things the officer described, but he spoke in a very cold and detached voice when he provided the descriptions and I cannot imagine what police like that go through on a case. And this was something that we hear about all the time, we know it happens, but to hear the details was horrific.

    Loved it; thanks for bringing Red Rooms to my attention, Emma. I like psychological horror as well.
    The most chilling scene to me, was when the camera fixates on Kelly Anne in the court room and she does her 'thing'.

    I really liked this movie, no need of gore and blood to be extremly traumatizing.
    SPOILER:
    The scene that will stay with me forever is when Kelly shows one of the videos to Clementine, they way Kelly was so fixated in the killer's movements and how she explained to Clementine the details that reveleal the killer's identity implying she had seen the video multiple times was chilling, you can see both their faces: clementine's shocked to the point of crying and Kelly's totally calm and kinda proud she was sure the guy in the video was Lodovic.

    Watched this last night, for anyone who's into dark crime thrillers I would really recommend it. There's a lot of ambiguity around the main character's intentions that keeps you guessing, and stylistically shot, reminiscent of an A24 film. Visually, it's not particularly graphic or gory, but it's more what you don't see and what you can hear is what makes it harrowing, the sound design and score are really powerful - especially that moment Chevalier, it literally gave me chills... if you know you know...

      She's a loner, she developed an unhealthy fascination with the case and tracked the videos on her own which were very hard to find. She bid like 200k on the last video and celebrated like a little girl. All of this, the selfies she took in the last victims bedroom plus the stunt where she dresses up in the courtroom can only leave the conclusion shes not well and is doing it for some kind of egoistical reasons, the victims and families are only second thought for her AFTER she got her fix.
      She has empathy tho, she doesn't like the killer and she cries when watching the videos.
      Its true crime fascination dialed up to eleven. She wants to be nearer to the case than anyone else

      It’s open to interpretation whether she’s smiling because she found it or because she takes pleasure in the suffering. After all, the movie examines hybristophilla. The next thing she does is to dress up as the schoolgirl and fantasise all alone in her bedroom before she decides to hand the material in

      @@haungo-duc738 Based on what she does.. and how far she can go, you do understand that she does know how it works. In both ways.
      "To understand the killers, is to put yourself in the place of the victim, and hence be in theirs shoes".
      What she does, might and could be considered as weird. But if you do pay attention, all she does is to hate everybody. Except.. machines.
      Life for her is meaningless. Money are numbers. The rest.. is void.
      She is very detached, but somehow she wants to hurt that guy. The key of the movie is the scene when the others girl does ask "But in all this, who are you?".
      The answer is : Nobody. That is why violence make hers feel something.
      The photoshots make her feel "seen"
      The IA is perfect and does not have anything that could hurt her.
      Humans are weak, predictable, not reliable. And nor is she.
      I do think that the movie does mix a lot of elements, that put together depicts something trully shocking : Is a killer worse, than a person who might go to the far end to uncover the truth?
      Just think about that. She's not better than the killer. But the mere fact that she didn't "killed" anybody.. puts her in the "good side" of everything. In reality, she is evil. Just like him.

    This movie was in my top five favorite movies of 2023, its the first film i've seen that deals with hybristophilia and presents it in a really disturbing shocking way, and at the same time uses it to make a point about the potential immorality of the consumption of true crime media, it really is a brilliant movie.

    This will easily end up in my top 3 of 2024. I found it more grounded and "this could happen in real life" than another dark thriller of similar ilk. It's disturbing that this actually happens, and the lengths people go to obtain such things.

Almost nothing I've seen though has gotten under my skin the way Resurrection (2022) did. Without spoiling anything, would you say Red Rooms is in the same ballpark?

    I missed something about this film. I didn’t see the mystery and I didn’t get any surprises. I’m not saying I’m excellent at figuring out mysteries, I’m saying.. were there mysteries in this?
    He was guilty. That was not a surprise. Clementine was a victim. That was not a surprise Kelley Ann was a sicko. No kidding.
    in the end, Clementine saw the light, that was good. i’m not sure if it was that surprising. She was diluted but not evil.
