Very clean example of a 85 vette with the Doug Nash trans. I like the American Racing wheels. Nice touch. Wether it has 600 hp is very questionable. Would have to see a dyno pull or quarter mile run to see the trap speed to verify. 40k to replace the motor lol. The TPI intake on this engine is a performance intake also used on the 1992 SLP Pontiac Firehawks and they were rated at 350 hp. C4s are cool. My favorite C4 would be a 96 Grand Sport with the 330 hp LT4.
My father owned a 1984 with a 4+3. I owned a 1987 with a 4+3. I added the short throw shift arms. I loved that car. Never had an issue with the 4+3. I power shifted, ffoot flat on the floor, at the dragstrip with great success.
I think that most people who bash these cars (or the transmission) have never owned one. The service interval on the Doug Nash 4+3 is 15,000 miles. ...Not 1500 miles. Let's keep it real!
It doesn’t matter what tires look like. If they are out of date, they need to be replaced. You’ll end up blowing out your tires if they are significantly past their life span.
I had an 88 Vette with the 4 + 3. Drove it for 30 years and nearly 150,000 miles. Transmission only had to be worked on once. I never knew about that 1500 mile service interval that is being discussed. I have some improvements done to the car and had nearly 340 horsepower. Personally I really liked the transmission. It is odd at first, but once I got used to it, it was pretty good. Higher gear ratios for more power, lower gear ratios for better gas mileage. It had more than enough torque that if you were driving in the city, you could almost use it like an automatic transmission, keeping it in second gear all the time and just hitting the button to go up and down from high to low.
Nice ride. Love it. Do you shift 2nd then go to overdrive, then 3rd and up to overdrive etc. Like a semi with 13 speed last 4 gears are overdrive and shift 6 low 6 high , 7 low 7 high and so on.
As an absolute fanatic of C4’s, enjoyed the vid. 4+3 is a great trans and was my first track car. 600hp with the superram intake on that car would be a stretch. Maybe 400. Hopefully your friend has dropped the OD unit on the trans. They make a great track car. Id like to race or track day in gimli. have you been to RMM?
Hey fair enough, I can only go by what people tell me! I just checked out your page and notice you have a c4 ZR1, me and another friend were literally just talking about those cars the other day, saying how bad ass of a car they are!
@@ThatTrackChannel c4's are ridiculously cheap and with nothing other than fluids and pads they make an excellent track car. even 84's! if you head this way next season buzz me
yeah, sweet ride. i have a soft spot for C4s but this car doesnt make anywhere near 600hp. especially with a TPI super ram intake. maybe 420 on a good day, my guess judging by the short valve covers which means it doesnt have 1.6 roller rockers, the smog era mufflers, the TPI super ram, this car doesnt rev past 6000rpm ultimately meaning, NA this 383 isnt making anywhere near 600hp.
You are excited by the 4+3, I made sure not to buy it. To weak to handle my 383. My 383 might have made 370 hp, and it would break the wheels loose at 70. You aren't making over 450 horse power.
There is not a snowballs chance in hell that 370 hp will break traction at 70 mph on dry pavement. Not unless you have slick tires and it's pouring rain on concrete not asphalt.
Doug Nash od unit. Most people should turn and run away. Service interval is 1500 miles. Have your own garage and love to work on cars more than drive them then have at it. What GM was thinking with that service interval who knows.
4+3 Doug Nash trans was one of GMs biggest mistakes. I can’t believe it made it to production. My brother bought a 86 model with the DN trans with less than 5k on it in 1990. Kept it for a month then unloaded it.

Love seeing the guys I grew up with on here.
Get that gt500 together andi can come shoot that car.
Next summer 😅 I’m working on it. Lots of waiting on parts.

or worse, crashing. I sure hope he replaced them before putting any miles on this. HUGE safety issue.
Yep
Got one like this in black, mint condition and love it….

It was definitely a unique concept, just not something that ended up taking the performance world by storm.
1500 mile is wrong
600 HP and slow! hehe
but gotta love it.

*dropped the pan on the OD unit to put fresh atf in.

Danny, nice car. Ford Probe also had the 4+3 tranny.
I was gonna mention the TRD jacket! haha
lol. he loves all kinds of cars/makes.
No chance it has 600hp

600hp crossfire engine?
he didn’t unleash the 600hp cuz he took the racing chip off lol
My uncle has a 85 vette with the 4+3 the only issue he's had is finding a shop that knows how to work in one
Yeah that could probably be a challenge. Such old technology now.

@@johnmckenzie1995 It makes 480 ft pounds of torque, that's more than a hemi Scat Pack makes and my car is like 1200 pounds lighter.

I personally am a fan of my newer tr6060 , or even a t56! I personally would never want to own one of these Doug nash units lol.

…mine is original, nothing like those cheap rims
I didn't like those rims either, but it's not my car.
