Not true. I've owned 2 Daihatsu Hijets (97 Super Jumbo, 97 Van both with dohc) and a Mitsubishi Bravo (van with 4 cylinder engine) and I currently have a 98 Sambar. I only experienced minor heat incursion in the Mitsu. The Hijets never had a problem with heat. Even in the summer with the a/c running. If you are looking for comfort with more practicality, opt for the van version of any of the kei trucks. Better seats, more room for the driver, better ride and MUCH more usable room for cargo and people. I must admit, the Bravo was the loudest of ANY kei vehicle I've driven. The 3 cylinder Minicab is much quieter. I suspect being 4 cylinders and having an 8k redline as the main contributors.
Would love to have one but would have no clue on even getting one here, much less what to look for (ie not buy one that's junk). Oh well, I can enjoy yours in the vids!

I have a 1996 Sambar Dias van. It's a sweet ride with plenty of speed for daily driving. What I want to know is... Does the Sambar have a rpm limiter to prevent engine damage, or does it rev till explosion. I routinely use it around 60mph . Being that these trucks don't come with a tachometer, I can't tell when I'm near redline. Is 60 pushing the engine too hard.
I'm in the market to buy one of these Sambar trucks, but I'm really wanting a supercharged one. After contacting some of the numerous Kei truck dealers in Florida, one of them told me the supercharged van will have a higher top speed but not the truck because of the transmission. Now I'm wondering if he was just trying to sell the carbureted truck he has in stock, or if what he says is true ?

Hi Subaru San. I'm living here nearby Mt Fuji. If you need any advice or tip when coming here don't hesitate. You may give an advice though on the noise with my winter tires on my Outback... always noisy in winter with those SJ8+😂
It reminds me that old Japanese woman passing on my street every day with her new sambar....full rpm...1st gear 😂. Probably doesn't know how to shift. I feel sorry for this poor engine living a high but short life 😅
The fact that these Sambars have the same bed length as those gargantuan Shidderados and also have collapsable bed sides 😂
When I think of the little soo-bar-oooo it's this model that flashes in my mind.
Been to NZ several times. Sambars build NZ. From skyscrapers to houses. No one needs an F150 or Dodge Pickup. Sambars get the job done, and done well.
There’s like 2.6 sambas here. Hiaces build NZ but sambas are cool

We need these in the US ! I see lots of stuff on U-Tube about Subaru selling a compact pickup here. Be great if they did.
If they do it’ll be a rebranded Toyota Stout.

Subaru Subaru custum hightop. Loved mine and miss it.
I had been wondering about this for some time
One gripe I have with these is there is no reverse 4x4 low.
Being a rear engine vehicle is much more comfortable unlike the other keis which you sit on top of the engine and experience the hideous temperature.

Is there any sambar model with injektions instread of carburator? Thanks
In terms of the engine, is the sambar considered more reliable than its counterparts? Does having 4 cylinders make it a better engine?

Not easily. The SC engine is different. It's also EFI. The N/A engine is carbed.
