  • We start tedding first crop after Travis cut it, and it got rained on for a few days. Tedding the hay will help it dry out after getting all those bugs washed off!

How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

Nice video Ryan for your next tedder I would recommend a side throw function that is nice along the edge of the field, we use it all the time and love it and maybe a 8 or 10 rotor tedder that would certainly save time on all the tedding you do in a year

I never used a tedder, i just opened up the windrow width on my New Holland Haybine, if the weather was ideal, dry, windy, sun, i could usually rake it late the next morning, and, start baling early afternoon. That was just southwest of Minneapolis, and, we sometimes had to wait an extra day. If it got rained on, it dried out pretty well, and, just needed to be raked before baling. I thought that feature on the haybine worked well.

For this PNW airplane builder who knows nothing about farms (but finds this channel fascinating, been watching since ~mid last summer): Would love to hear the economics of your operation. You just bought some cattle not too long ago......yet are thinking of selling some? You grow corn, beans and hay, and raise cattle (anything else?). So, what's the pro's / cons of each? The corn you feed the cattle, what could you sell that for vs the value of the cattle you sell? $1 of corn fed to your cattle (in lieu of sold) = $?? of cattle. Raising hay in lieu of more acres of corn - how's that fit in with the cattle, etc? Hay is just an input to the cattle...or do you sell it for cash as well? Would love to hear the nuts and bolts of how all the pieces fit together into an integrated agricultural business. I recall one of the earlier vids, not too far back, about how you're switching some acres from beans to other crops.
