I am an old guy who was an avid reader of "James Hedley Chase," way back in the 1960s. In one of the novels, a fellow was complaining as follows:- "Look at these people, they are oblivious of good value of things; Good Wine Good Food and Good Social Classes. They are blind to these things". We have reached that point today. Everybody from the President to the the lowest Hustler is building flats, selling Chicken and eggs, stealing farm produce from one another and generally mingling as Hustlers, people oblivious of Class and good things of life. That is the reason we no longer have Low Density Areas in our cities. Everywhere is a Slum these days.

I grew up in Nakuru and in the 1960s and 70s. In those days, there were only Government Estates, Nakuru Municipal Council and Kenya Railway Houses. There were ample spaces for Children to play and we used to have inter-estate "Football Competitions" using a ball made of scrap paper. There was no overcrowding then because people lived in the rural areas. Now, everyone has migrated to town, and the small towns in the rural areas are dying because of lack of population while the Major towns are deteriorating because of increase in population. Do you know that Ruiru is the THIRD most populous Town in Kenya. All the farms are gone and if Uhuru subdivides his land and sells plots, Ruiru would be the 2nd most populous tow after Nairobi in 10 years.

What was once considered posh in areas like Buruburu in the 80s changed, what was once considered posh like Kilimani and kileleshwa will change, paving the way for new neighborhoods with improved amenities. But the mindset challenge to Africans can be understood because there aren't many Africans who gave lived through more than 2 generations in an urban setting. @@steveodhiambo2739Very well stated. The African problem is a mindset problem. There aren't many Africans who have lived in an urban setting through more than 2 generations. Urban planning is a strange concept to most Africans. The village is still strongly residing in the mind if an African urbanite. School education does not change any of that because it is deeply engraved in the mind of an African not to have long range urban planning. It is an African culture not to plan and/or not to respect plans.

@@georgeodhiambo598 when you get power or when someone who will do what you want gets power then they can implement everything you want and how you want it but unfortunately we don't have those people in power now so you can either take what we have now and be patient for your turn or you can rebel now and take back the government and do what you want... Those are the only choices we have.

But this is normal even in developed countries...ive seen people buy a beach front apartment at a premium only for another developer to block it, kenya is a free market but to be honest that building is too close for a residential building i don't think stopping it is the solution I think we should by law enforce terracing residential buildings above certain heights to alow natural light for everyone as opposed to stopping the construction boom as we have a big housing deficit.

Human settlements are categorized as urban, suburban and rural. Urban is always growing! Suburban is always being swallowed by urban and in turn swallowing Rural. That’s the reality of human settlements. Yesterday’s leafy green suburbs are today’s urban areas. Zoea hiyo sauti
