      I'm with you. People keep saying Mint is a beginner distro, and I agree, but that doesn't mean it is not a power user distro. I'm a power user (an IT professional) and have been uniquely on Mint since 2016. Some people have that BS mentality that if you are a power user you should use Gentoo or Arch, or whatever other BS that you spend more time fixing it or making it work than actually doing work on it. I like things that work, and Mint is it, great for me and for beginners. Moreover, it works great right "out-of-the-box", if my PC craps the bed, it means I just need to grab another one, install Mint and then I'm back in business again in less than 1 hour.

    6 months? That's kinda insane of a wait time to get your hardware supported out of the box.
    I really wish LTS distro would ship the latest kernel, or at least scan for your hardware, and pick the best kernel suited for that hardware.
    As I know many people who have had issues with linux due to hardware support on the recommended LTS distro's being poor.
    Like sure, its better than nothing, but still. Not the best.

      Testing for regressions take time, especially if hardware vendors don't work with distro vendors to test before the hardware gets released (like they do with windows)

    I just recently switched off windows 10 to Endeavour as my daily driver, and just in time for things to get so much better too. With the new 555.58 nvidia drivers making wayland a real thing that I can actually use and KDE Plasma having many of my favorite keybinds from windows it's been a smooth transition. I've used several distros in various capacities but never a rolling release and I'm loving being in the arch ecosystem. Great distro. Huge fan.

    I've been using Linux Mint for years. I keep trying other things but keep returning. It just works for me and I don't have to spend hours searching for solutions when something isn't working. The solution is usually easily found compared to other operating systems. I'm an advanced user but that doesn't mean I want to spend time fixing my daily driver.

    I still run a small Centos 7 dedicated server hosting half a dozen websites etc and have just started the process of updating but I'm taking the oportunity to do a complete wipe and reinstall. I am shifting current hosted domains to my Alma dedicated server. I'm tossing up whether to go Alma or RHEL. Going by the current licences I could run the 4 servers I have on RHEL for minimal expense. Having all the same would be ideal. I still have 2 months update support left for Centos.
    I've also recently switched all systems and workstations etc that I maintain away from Ubuntu (Debian) based systems and primarily want to keep all on RPM based or RHEL based distros for longevity and support. Primary reason was hardware support, especially on laptops, and easier to maintain,

    • @michael_tunnell

    Sometimes you just want something that works without screwing around and that's why I've always come back to Mint. But I don't care about new hardware compatibility because the average age of our PCs is about 8 years (the ones we actually use).

    Is better fractional scaling coming to Wayland? I hope so... Falkon text rendering is really bad at 125%. I started out with nothing against Wayland, but it seems like it's trying to make itself unlikable

    • @michael_tunnell
      @michael_tunnell  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Fractional scaling depends on the desktop environment, the scaling in GNOME is pretty weak but scaling in KDE Plasma is actually quite solid. I assume Falkon is more likely an issue with the browser itself though
