Side note, I find it kind of ridiculous you can lock a Heli with IRST from the LAV, but not its stringers.
The F117 isn't really meant for this game. It was developed to take out fixed air defenses, command and control facilities, and hardened hangars. It was extremely successful getting in and out without being detected. It was never meant to bomb moving vehicles, fly at low altitudes during the day, or fly around with it's bomb bay open. The one early F117 loss was due to an open bomb bay allowing the plane to be locked onto. The F117 is one of the coolest and most historic planes ever built (and still being flown today) but it doesn't lend itself to WT any more than any strategic bomber.
7:50 lol, French air force actually did it during libyan war, they were using concrete bomb to destroy tanks in civilian area, the precision and kinetic energy of the bomb could completly destroy the tank (they destroyed a tank 50km away with a concrete AASM propelled bomb, guided by ground units)
the F-117 did have a limited action rudimentary RWR that would deploy when activated, but doing so would comprimise the stealth.... but in game the haven't given the F-117 its RWR

it was never gonna be meta breaking, for stealth aircraft, its pretty limited and would only fly in cleared skies. War thunders game modes really do not fit the mission profile of the F-117 at all. I am fairly certain the heat signature isnt accurate, however even if that was fixed, the F-117 still wont be amazing
It won't work, the only point of these is to perform a mission stealthily, when they don't expect you are coming, doing precision strike 10 15km in the air, neither of those conditions is possible in game at all@@ay0media

I don't know if it's just me but I find Chadley an absolutely monster in hulldown positions and a great vehicle overall. Top-down missiles tend to overpressure russian light armor and wreck everything else if you can aim it well enough even from great distances and while staying behind cover which makes you virtually invulnerable. Autocannon is also good enough to get the job done against light armor. Only real downfall of this vehicle is not being able to fire TOWs when you're fast and large size imo.
I was watching a documentary on the gulf war once and the f117 was being used then and I heard a funny story of how some f-15's or 16's? (idk for sure) were firing off some air to air missiles at some enemy fighters and they just barely missed the f117's and flew over the canopies of their crew because apparently the missiles didn't detect them at all. I just find it really sad that Gaijin can't even make the f117's historically accurate when there are examples like that.
The funny thing with the "reduced IR signature" is that every IR thing the shoots at it pretty much doesn't actually care about how hot the vehicle is, only caring if that it's warm in general (in the case for stingers) and it being black on a white sky doesn't help for something like Strelas (which use a photo-contrast seeker for longer ranges)
Yeah,i don't think it can save you considering how overpressure is handled in this game. KF41 and the Centauro ROMOR being unable to withstand even slight overpressure are a clear proof
What bugs me most about the F-117 as it's currently implemented is the bomb bay boors. As I understand, IRL, the pilot would push a single button to drop a bomb. The plane would then automatically open the doors, drop one bomb, and close them again as soon as possible to limit the time that radars could see the plane. The pilot never needed to open the doors - just tell the plane to drop the bomb. In WT, though, you have to manually open the doors first, and if you only drop one bomb, there seems to not be a way to close them again until you drop that second one. So effectively, you lose stealth as soon as you attack something. That, or you'll have to make do with just your second bomb and ditch the first one.
I hope you're aware that having your bomb bay doors open renders your stealth capability completely useless. Not that it worked a whole lot before but you know.. pro tip.
I am once again hoping for the low and mid tier vehicles for the Benelux ground sub tree to come in the next update. You can complain that I talk about them too much, but as a fan of WWII vehicles, I want something.
Agreed, Gaijin needs to add the low and mid tier Benelux vehicles. Low tier France is a nightmare with some of their tanks and the few Benelux vehicles that were around before and during WWII could be helpful.

F-117 is made to not be seen by radar which it is successful at now it is on the other hand a big black triangle in the sky which does in turn mean it’s pretty hot so IR guidance does indeed counter its stealth capabilities as stealth is made to avoid radar detection or lock not negate IR lock
Gajin has to make that ir missiles can't hit or detect the nighthawk from below, bc the f117 engine exhaust nozzles are designed to prevent the heat signature
My experience in shooting down the f117 it’s really no different. It’s stealth capabilities allow it to go unnoticed for a while, but once you finally spot it you treat it as you would any other plane. Lock on > fire the missile > dead plane. In my experience it’s really nothing special, its stealth capabilities don’t really do anything for it. P.S I’ve shot down the f117 the the gepard 1a2, ozelot, and santal. The F117 Had RWR 100% its documented in the investigation files on the shot down event in serbia that this f117 taking that mission had malfunction rwr so he couldn't here them tracking him for a while
I would use the JDAMs over the Paveways since JDAMs have a better glide profile, you can sling them from farther away and hopefully stay out of Strela and Tunguska range
Also Im pretty sure showing the belly of the nighthawk isnt a good ide although I may be wrong. Im pretty sure youre supposed to head straight on though because heading straight on it has the best stealth.
The RCS being biggest from the rear when it's the side IRL shows they don't understand how stealth works or at least refuse to model it properly and not this watered down stealth.

For some reason, the TOW-2B still suffers from the launch dip. Edit : Testing myself, it appears the TOW-2B has also been improved now. Not noticing the launch dip, at least in test drive.

The F117 works great against normal IR lock , but your problem or every f117 players, will be that Those Sams (Ozelot + Strella) have a 2nd way to guide their missiles that counters the flaws of the IR lock.
Strela in the winter map didn’t see you because of the open bomb bay. Strela doesn’t even have a search radar or a thermal. It saw your giant ass smoke trail because it’s a winter map

Locking helicopters with IR missiles is almost impossible but stealth aircraft can be locked from 6 km MAKES A LOT OF SENSE
Stealth applies to radar, you can’t really hide an IR signature, radars can be deceived however

Also quick note both Ozelot and Strela use an IR locked missiles so stealth isn’t very useful against those
