    I never noticed it before now, but there is a very subtle and important demonstration of Lwaxana's personality here: Betazoids are not uncomfortable when unclothed; to the Betazed culture nudity is simply natural. When Deanna and her mother are beamed nude onto the Ferengi vessel they are irritated but NOT embarrassed. Nevertheless, when Lwaxana takes the blankets to cover themselves, she gives the first one to her daughter; protecting Deanna before herself. Deanna has lived and worked with Humans for decades; and in the Star Trek universe Humans have not yet shed the belief that nudity is strange and attractive. It says a great deal about the flamboyant, larger-than-life Lwaxana Troi that she would protect her daughter FIRST from something their own culture views as normal.

      There's also a later episode (Cost of Living) when Deanna expresses horror that Lwaxana is getting a wedding dress because Betazoid weddings are traditionally nude.

      Exactly.
      You get it. She also basically allows this ferengi scumbag to rape her, in order to protect deanna and riker. Strong female character who expresses her love for her daughter in very unconventional ways

      Betazoids are usually only nude for weddings. As explained by Lwaxana in one episode (and expounded upon in the book "Imzadi"), it "honors the act of love being celebrated". It's also about honesty and openness, a hallmark of Betazoid culture and a natural outcome of everyone being telepaths. (People miss that when they call Lwaxana rude- her culture is brutally honest/forthright and virtually impossible to offend, something they developed since they know EXACTLY what others are thinking and of them. Lying or hiding anything is impossible.)

    I know Deanna doesn't get along with Lwaxanna sometimes and Lwaxanna is overbearing. But, Lwaxanna loves Deanna and she cares and she only wants what is best for her and Deanna is the only family Lwaxanna has left. Sometimes, parents forget their children whom have grown up are not little anymore. In their eyes, they were always be their babies and they only want what its best for their children.

    • @chrismc410
      @chrismc410 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Parents never quite accept the fact their children are adults no matter how old they get. Mine certainly don't and I'm almost 40 and been on my own for over 20 years

    • @dooug89
      @dooug89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrismc410 Yep, thats so absolutely true about parents! In my experience. And then they wonder why their kids end up disowning them, after pushing their adult kids buttons a million times. But of course, they don't see anything wrong with it, and don't wanna take responsibility for fixing their problems. Because we're parents, we make no mistakes, and are perfectly fine with constantly screwing up 😒😒😒

    • @theeimp
      @theeimp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a true observation for many, but I wouldn't say it's true for all. There's a fine line with your adult children that parents need to recognize and accept- they may be *YOUR* child, but they are not *A* child. Problem is so many still view their adult kids as children and treat them as such. They need to understand that their parenting must change appropriately as their children age; most of all, when they reach a certain age, allow them to grow, be independent, make mistakes, stumble and fall, etc. That's damn hard, as your urge is to prevent them pain (which often leads to smothering) and swoop in when they experience it. But that's not best for them.
      My son is almost 28. I view/treat him as the adult in his own right that he is (his words when I overheard him talking with his friends about problematic parents). But he knows he can come to me if he has a problem with anything, even if it's with me. He also knows I will *always* be there for him if need be and all he has to do is call. That includes if he makes a mistake, as we all do. In return, I expect the respect (not obedience) I've earned. In the end, he's turned into a fine young man to be proud of and we're unusually close, so I can't have screwed up too badly or my philosophy be too messed up. 😆

      Autistic Guy with a camera productions I thought it was odd that they took their clothing. You don’t see Ferengi demanding that non-Ferengi females go naked in front of them in any other episode.

    • @Autisticguywithacamera
      @Autisticguywithacamera 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@delennamachoo well, they were hostages. Maybe they do that with female prisoners. In the comic "The Modala Imperative" Daimon Tog wanted Deanna stripped when she was captured along with Bones.

    • @neptun2810
      @neptun2810 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Autisticguywithacamera Is that comic canon? Actually I think it might have something to do with were the Ferengi are. Have we ever seen a non-Ferengi female in Ferengi space? I don't remember any. So maybe they demand that only in their territory, and a Ship of Daimon Tog would be Ferengi Territory. That they didn't stayed naked the whole Episode could be simply because the producers prefered a minor logical error over the Episode being R-rated.
      Edit: Actually more because Marina Sirtis and Majel Barrett would surely not like that plan than because of an r-rating.
