    Welcome to Blood Talks Fam. Blood Talks offers you a peek into how clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) or medical laboratory technologists (MLT) work in a hospital. CLS/MLT hold an important role in the healthcare system, but unfortunately, many people do not know that they even exist, simply because most of CLS/MLT work is done behind the scenes. In this channel, you can find explanations from a clinical laboratory point of view. I hope you enjoy and learn something you did not know before.

    With regards to virus testing anti HbsAg is not the one tested. Instead the HBs antigent only. The anti Hbs is a test if you develop antibodies after vaccination. That means if you are positive for
    anti- HBs it's a good thing because you have an antibody to fight against the virus antigen which is the HBs Ag

    Where are you getting to percentage of antigen from? You said C antigen is in 70 % 0f the population. How do you know this or where would I find this info?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I got the percentage from a text book. I asked the same thing when I was a student. I was told that there were studies done in large number of people and the antigen's percentage came from that.

    Great vid! But how long until I could make a donation after consuming alcohol?
    *or it doesn't matter?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an interesting thought. That thought actually never come across my mind before. I think in general it is not advisable to consume alcohol 24-48 hours before or after blood donation. The reason is alcohol dehydrated your body. You blood can safe lives, but we want you to be safe too.
      Blood donation is a safe process, but if you are dehydrated you may be putting yourself at a higher risk of post donation adverse effects.

    What if person is using drugs such meth, coke, etc? Are thy still able to donate?

    • @BloodTalks
      @BloodTalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even though there are no questions about drug use in the donor questionnaire, I wouldn't advise one to donate under influence of drugs or alcohol. Drug uses could increase change of STD and other blood borne diseases. Please do not donate as a way to get free STD testing. There are many free clinics where any one could get tested and treatment if needed.
