    886 million miles from the sun, you can find the mysterious planet-like moon, Titan. It is larger than the smallest planet, Mercury and orbits around the magnificent gas giant, Saturn. But What makes this moon so different and interesting, is that it has a dense atmosphere and is the only object other than earth where large bodies of surface liquid can be found. So if one day in the future humans have developed the technology needed to travel to and explore this strange moon, what would it be like to stand on the surface of Titan? The space-exploring astronauts wouldn't need special pressurised suits to stand on Titan as the surface pressure is about 60% greater than Earths, which would make it feel similar to being at the bottom of a swimming pool. However, they would require a suit that protected them from the extremely frigid temperatures that average at minus 179 degrees Celsius (-290 degrees Fahrenheit). They would also require oxygen masks to allow them to breathe, as the atmosphere on Titan is mainly nitrogen and methane, with small amounts of other carbon-rich compounds. The gravity on Titan is very low, around 14 percent that of Earths, which means the astronauts would feel much lighter, much like standing on our own neighbouring moon. Looking across the surface of Titan, the astronauts would see a fairly flat landscape, that lacks huge craters or towering mountains. Instead, vast regions of tall dunes composed of hydrocarbon grains and rocks made of water ice would be seen spread far and wide. But the most interesting sight would be the flowing liquid methane and ethane rivers that have carved channels in surface and lead to huge Lakes, with shorelines and islands visible in the distance. Looking up into the sky, the astronauts would see a thick covering of cloud, that would be a hazy orange colour during the Titan day. If the landing site was on the side of Titan that permanently faced Saturn, then the massive gas planet would be visible as a hazy blur behind the moons thick dense atmosphere. Titan doesn't experience much when it comes to weather events, but occasionally the thick clouds would rumble like a thunderstorm here on Earth and the heavens would open allowing liquid methane to rain down on to the brave Titan explorers. So this strange alien planet like the moon has many interesting characteristics and also is one of the least hostile places for humans in the outer solar system. Making it a perfect destination for future space exploring humans.

    Hi! Some of you that have been subscribed to my channel for a long time might remember that I have already made a video about standing of Titan. But due to an issue with the original version (uploaded back in 2016) I have had to remake it.
    So if you have some free time, please give it a view. Thanks and I hope you enjoy it!

    • @MarkHobbes
      @MarkHobbes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      SaturnSunset Their major reasons for not going to the gas giants' moons are usually:
      - It's too far way;
      - Not so important than Mars (I don't think so);
      - Not enough budget;
      - We don't have such technology (in case of colonization - ok, that's an acceptable statement).
      I think we need to upgrade our rockets and space probes to arrive quicly in less time, especially on these moons.
      There was a plan to send a lander to Europa (Jupiter's moon), but unfortunately was canceled by Donald Trump.

      @Donald Glover Certainly the low gravity would mean the atmosphere wouldn't be pushing as hard on you as it would under Earth gravity, but then again, the sheer thickness of Titan's atmosphere might cancel that out.

    • @numberjackfiutro7412
      @numberjackfiutro7412 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, Titan's atmosphere is much denser than Earth, this combined with the low gravity would enable flight without motors. You'd actually feel quite light on Titan, despite the higher pressures.

      You would feel pressure around you like your underwater, but you would feel lighter kind of like your under water but more manuverable without water might I add

    • @vladskiobi

    I think that if a mini individual perhaps suitcase size nuclear reactor were invented this could be used to power a heat source for astronauts in space suits in cold environments like this moon here.
    They would also be able to power lights and equipment with it.
    Also if the astronauts suits were made out of Kevlar at least on the inside and whatever material needed on the outside to reflect light or such they can be much safer against tears and accidents like that.
    First robots must be sent though and I'm not talking little rovers that can only take as much as pics and such. Real robots that can dig and kick up dirt-for lack of a better phrase- are needed to explore both life and enviromental conditions on most planets or moons if we ever intend to land astronauts there in some distsnt future. To check the feasibility before that.
